Kumar Mangalam Birla Joins US-India Business Forum Board

  • Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, was appointed to the Executive Committee of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). This is a major step that strengthens the business and economic partnership between India and the United States.
  • The USISPF is a key organissation that builds strong ties between the two countries by bringing businesses and governments together. It has members from global companies worth over $10 trillion and employing over 6 million people worldwide.

UNEPs 7th Frontiers Report

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released its 7th Frontiers report, 'The Weight of Time', in July 2025. It warns of growing threats from extreme heat and toxic pollution to the world's ageing population. The report marks how climate change and environmental hazards increasingly endanger older adults, especially in urban and low- to middle-income regions.
  • Heat-related deaths among people aged 65 and above have surged by 85% since the 1990s. If global temperatures rise by 2°C, deaths could increase by 370% by 2050. Older adults have reduced ability to regulate body temperature.

Nvidia Becomes First Company to Reach $4 Trillion Value

  • Nvidia made history, becoming the first company ever to reach a $4 trillion market valuation, solidifying its dominance in the global financial landscape.
  • Nvidia first reached a $1 trillion valuation in June 2023, and since then, its growth trajectory has outpaced every other mega-cap stock. In just over a year, its market value more than tripled, a feat achieved faster than both Apple and Microsoft, now valued at $3.01 trillion and $3.75 trillion, respectively.
  • The record value came as tech giants such as OpenAI, Amazon and Microsoft are spending hundreds of billions of dollars in the race to build massive data centres to fuel the artificial intelligence revolution. All of those companies are using Nvidia chips to power their services, though some are also developing their own.

  • Spin bowler Kishor Kumar Sadhak created history by claiming two hat-tricks in game, that too in back-to-back overs. Playing for Ipswich and Colchester Cricket Club in UK, Sadhak, an Ipswich resident, ended the Two Counties Championship Division Six game with figures of 6-21 in the win over Kesgrave.

India to Host Shooting World Cup in 2027 and Junior Worlds in 2028

  • India will host the Shooting World Cup in 2027 and the Junior World Championship in 2028, as announced by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in July 2025. The decision was made by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). These events are a big step in making India a major center for global shooting competitions.
  • These events will help both junior and senior shooters gain international exposure while competing at home. Hosting such global-level matches will also bring international attention and development to the sport in India.

Veteran Leader N. Tippanna Passes Away at 97

  • N. Tippanna, a respected leader, lawyer, and former Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, passed away at the age of 97. Tippanna made major contributions to law, politics, and education in Karnataka.
  • Born on November 23, 1928, in Turuvanur, Tippanna began his legal career in 1954. He served as District Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor in Ballari. He also led the Bellary Bar Association and was Vice President of the Karnataka Bar Council.
  • Politically, he was a strong supporter of Ramakrishna Hegde and joined the Janata Dal (U). After the party merged with Janata Dal (S), Tippanna became the State President of JD(S).

A two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference of Central Universities Held in Gujarat

  • Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu participated in the two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference of Central Universities on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Action: Transforming Higher Education held in Statue of Unity, Kevadia, Gujarat on July 10 and 11.
  • Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education was the Chief guest and inaugurated the conference. Dr. Vineet Joshi Chairman, UGC & Secretary, Higher Education, Government of India gave the opening remarks about the conference. Vice- Chancellors from leading universities across India, senior officials from the Ministry of Education and UGC, as well as academic leaders and policy experts participated in the conference.
  • The conference focused on Central Universities' role as drivers of educational transformation and their contribution to Viksit Bharat@2047, critical themes in higher education policy, institutional governance, research and innovation and national development priorities.

Three African Sites Removed from the UNESCO World Heritage 'in Danger' List

  • The World Heritage Committee removed three African heritage sites -- in Madagascar, Egypt and Libya -- from UNESCO's list of endangered sites, acknowledging successful efforts to mitigate threats and restore their cultural and ecological integrity.
  • The decision was taken during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) in Paris.
  • The sites taken off the danger list are the Rainforests of the Atsinanana in Madagascar, Abu Mena in Egypt, and the Old Town of Ghadams in Libya.
