India Ranks 71st in WEF Energy Transition Index 2025 Despite Efficiency Gains

  • Despite notable progress in energy efficiency and clean energy investment, India slipped to 71st position in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Energy Transition Index 2025, falling eight places from last year (2024). The index, which ranked 118 countries based on their performance across energy security, sustainability, and equity.
  • The top five countries are Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, respectively.
  • While India's ranking declined, the WEF acknowledged the country's significant improvements in energy access, regulatory frameworks, and transition readiness.

Reliance Infra & Dassault Aviation to Build Falcon 2000 Jets in India

  • Asia remained the highest recipient of Foreign Direct Investment in 2024 while global investments fell 11 per cent, revealed a new UN report released in June.
  • In 2024, developing economies of Asia attracted $605 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI), according to the latest World Investment Report released by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
  • Within the South Asian region, India was the top FDI recipient.

This unprecedented breach spans multiple datasets and poses a serious threat to users and institutions worldwide, with potential implications for account takeovers, phishing attacks, and broader cybercrimes.
  • The breach, considered one of the largest in history, was brought to light by cybersecurity experts who discovered over 30 datasets, each containing up to 3.5 billion user records. As per the agreement, a domestic event like the ILT20 UAE Development Tournament, will be conducted annually in Kuwait to provide the players from Kuwait an opportunity to get selected by ILT20 franchises for the main ILT20 event.

  • Gurugram-based Manish Thakran produced the best score of the third and final round, a five-under 67, and outshined all his rivals and clinched his maiden title with a total score of nine-under 171 at the PGTI NEXGEN Imperial Golf Estate played in Ludhiana.

WR Chess Clinch Their Second FIDE World Team Blitz Championship Title

  • In the final stage of the knockouts at the FIDE World Blitz Team Championship, WR Chess defeated KazChess in both matches with 4:2, securing their second Blitz crown since the competition began in 2023.
  • Third place went to the Hexamind Chess Club, who defeated the squad of Uzbekistan in both matches with 3.5:2.5.

ECI's New SOP Ensures EPIC Delivery within 15 Days

  • In a move aimed at enhancing voter convenience and improving the efficiency of electoral services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to deliver Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls. This fast-track delivery system reflects ECI's ongoing digital transformation under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

Eight Elected to Rajya Sabha Unopposed

  • Eight candidates, two from Assam and six from Tamil Nadu, were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, even as the biennial elections to the eight seats were slated for June 19. With the opposition parties not filing any candidate for the two Rajya Sabha seats in the North-eastern state, NDA candidates -- Kanad Purkayastha and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya -- won the two seats. The ruling BJP had nominated Purkayastha for one of the seats, while its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) nominated Baishya.

IGNOU, WHO Launch Healthcare Waste Management Certification

  • The CHCWM programme confronts the dangers to health and ecology posed by inadequate disposal of medical waste. It seeks to educate both professionals and paraprofessionals engaged in hospitals, primary health centres, and waste management sectors. The curriculum aligns with India's Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016, and adheres to WHO's international standards.

QS University Rankings 2026

  • The QS World University Rankings 2026 were released. Fifty-four Indian universities made it to the global list this year, compared to only 11 in 2014. This makes India the fourth most represented country overall, after the USA, UK, and China. But only three of those have made it to the top 200.
  • IIT Delhi climbed to the 123rd position, up from 150 last year, and 197 in 2024. It's now India's highest-ranked university in QS Rankings 2026. The institute has done well across key parameters -- 50th in Employer Reputation, 86th in Citations per Faculty, and 142nd in Academic Reputation.
