  • The Indian delegation was led by T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and included Mukesh Mangal, Joint Secretary, and Karthick Chensudar, Director.

Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala Becomes First Person of Indian Origin to Lead American Medical Association

  • Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala, also known as Bobby Mukkamala, made history by becoming the first Indian-origin president of the American Medical Association (AMA) in its 178-year history.
  • Srinivas Mukkamala, MD, is an Indian-origin otolaryngologist and became the 180th president of the American Medical Association. He is based in Flint, Michigan, and has over 20 years of creative leadership experience in public health and organised medicine.
  • The AMA, founded in 1847, is the largest association of physicians and medical students in the United States.

  • Scapia, a travel-first fintech platform, in partnership with Federal Bank, launched the Scapia Federal RuPay Credit Card—a dual-network card that combines the convenience of UPI, credit access, and travel rewards in a single offering.
  • This new credit card enables users to carry out both RuPay and Visa transactions across online, offline, UPI, and international channels, while managing all spends under one credit limit and consolidated monthly statement.
  • This is one of the first credit cards in India to integrate UPI functionality directly via the RuPay network while retaining the global reach of Visa.

  • The Bangladesh Cricket Board named all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the men's ODI team, for the next 12 months.
  • Miraz took over the reins from Najmul Hossain Shanto.
  • The off-spinning all-rounder has previously captained Bangladesh in four ODIs in Shanto's absence.

  • The full bench of Lokpal of India adopted a new motto "Empower Citizens, Expose Corruption".

  • It consists of a Chairperson and up to 8 members, with at least 50% being judicial members.
  • 50% of members must belong to SC/ST/OBC, minorities, or women.

Indian and the UK Navies Conclude Exercise PASSEX 2025

  • The Indian Navy conducted a high-tempo Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the United Kingdom's Carrier Strike Group in the strategic North Arabian Sea.
  • The exercise, which concluded on June 10, featured Indian naval assets including the stealth frigate INS Tabar, a submarine, and the long-range maritime patrol aircraft P-8I. The UK's naval contingent included HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Richmond.
  • The exercise highlighted advanced operational coordination and interoperability between the two forces. With synchronised tactical manoeuvres and unified helicopter control operations, both navies demonstrated their readiness and high-end combat capabilities.

Army Successfully Tests Rudrastra

  • India took a significant leap in defence technology with the successful test of Rudrastra, an indigenous hybrid vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited.
  • The test was conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer.
  • During the trial, Rudrastra demonstrated strong operational performance by covering a mission radius of over 50 km while maintaining a stable real-time video link, and successfully returning to its original launch point.

Ex-Gujarat CM Rupani, Dies in Plane Crash

  • Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was on the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad, died. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft bound for London crashed after taking-off near Ahmedabad airport.
  • Rupani served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 2016 to September 2021, before resigning ahead of the 2022 state elections.
  • Vijay Rupani is the second politician who served as the Gujarat CM who died in an air accident, sixty years after Balwantrai Mehta's death in a 1965 plane crash.
