India's First E-Waste Recycling Park to Rise in Delhi

  • In a move towards sustainable development and cleaner urban living, the Delhi government announced the establishment of India's first electronic waste (e-waste) eco park. The facility will be constructed in Holambi Kalan, located in North Delhi, and is poised to become a national model for circular economy practices.
  • The announcement was made by Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa following a high-level meeting with officials of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).
  • Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasised that the park is not just about recycling waste but also about transforming Delhi into a circular economy, where "no resource is wasted and no worker left behind."

  • Sailesh C. Mehta, the Managing Director of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd., was appointed the new Chairman of the Fertiliser Association of India (FAI). With over 40 years of experience in the industry, Mehta succeeded N. Suresh Krishnan.
  • This leadership transition is significant amid India's growing push for balanced fertiliser usage, sustainable agriculture, and increased collaboration between the government and fertiliser industry.

MS Dhoni Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

  • World Cup-winning former India captain MS Dhoni was inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame, the International Cricket Council announced. Regarded as one of the most successful captains of all time, Dhoni led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Additionally, he was captain of the Indian team when they climbed to the top of the ICC Test rankings in 2009.
  • Dhoni is one of seven former players who were inducted by the ICC, with the others being Australia's Matthew Hayden, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, South African Hashim Amla, former Pakistan captain Sana Mir and England's Sarah Taylor.

Carlos Alcaraz Wins French Open

  • Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz recovered from two sets down - saving three championship points on the way - to beat Jannik Sinner in an incredible French Open men's singles final.
  • Alcaraz's reign on the Roland Garros clay looked to be over when world number one Sinner closed in on victory at 5-3 in the fourth set.
  • But the Spaniard showed extraordinary fight to win 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes - the longest French Open final in history.

Sahib Singh: India's First Sikh Chess IM

  • Sixteen-year-old Sahib Singh made history by becoming the first Sikh player to earn the International Master (IM) title in chess.
  • Sahib's journey to the IM title was anything but easy. He came close to achieving the title multiple times but narrowly missed his final IM norm on several occasions. However, his persistence paid off when he secured his third and final IM norm at the Dubai Open 2025, officially earning the IM title.

President Promulgates Ladakh Reservation and Language Regulations

  • President Droupadi Murmu promulgated three key regulations: the Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, 2025, ensuring 85% job reservation for local residents; the Ladakh Official Languages Regulation, 2025, recognising five official languages including Bhoti and Purgi; and amendments to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils Regulation, providing for 33% reservation for women in the Leh and Kargil Hill Councils. These steps aim to empower local communities, preserve cultural heritage, and enhance gender representation.
  • The President of India used powers under Article 240 of the Constitution to promulgate three major regulations for Ladakh.

Nirmala Sitharaman Chairs 6th Meeting of the Governing Council of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund

  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 6th meeting of the Governing Council (GC) of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIF) in New Delhi.
  • The GC appreciated NIIF's evolution as a sovereign-linked asset manager and acknowledged the efforts made over the years to build strong partnerships with marquee investors, including, prominent sovereign wealth funds.

Navy to Induct First Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft 'Arnala'

  • The first warship in the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft series, equipped to conduct subsurface surveillance, search and rescue missions, and low-intensity maritime operations, is set to be inducted into the Indian Navy on June 18.
  • The commissioning ceremony of 'Arnala' at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam will be presided over by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan.
  • The warship incorporates more than 80 per cent indigenous content and integrates advanced systems from leading Indian defence firms, including Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), L&T, Mahindra Defence, and MEIL.
  • Designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, under a public-private partnership (PPP) with L&T Shipbuilders, 'Arnala' is a testament to the success of the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative in defence manufacturing.

Eminent Scholar and Author Daji Panshika Passes Away

  • Renowned scholar, author, and literary commentator Daji Panshikar, also known as Narahari Vishnu Shastri, passed away at the age of 92. An authority on Indian epics such as the Mahabharata, Eknaathi Bhagwat, and Bhavarth Ramayan, Panshikar played a pivotal role in enriching Marathi literature and cultural discourse. He was also a guiding light in Maharashtra's theatre community through his association with Natyasampada Natya Sanstha.

Rohini Gram Panchayat Wins Gold in National e-Governance Awards 2025

  • In an achievement for rural digital transformation, Rohini Gram Panchayat in Shirpur taluka, Dhule district, Maharashtra, won the Gold Award in the National e-Governance Awards 2025. Despite being a 100% tribal village, Rohini emerged as a national model for technology-driven rural governance. The Gram Panchayat was selected from over 1.45 lakh entries across India in the Grassroots Level Initiatives category and received the award at the 28th National e-Governance Conference in Visakhapatnam.
  • The award is presented by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Recognized for implementing over 956 digital services, the village is a model of digital inclusion, especially for Scheduled Areas.
