Banka Re-elected for Third and Final Term as WADA President
Witold Banka was re-elected for a third and final three-year term as president of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The third term for Banka, a former middle-distance runner, will begin in January 2026 and run until the end of 2028. WADA vice president Yang Yang was also re-elected for a third and final three-year term.
PM Modi Unlikely to Attend G7 Summit in Canada
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to visit Canada for the upcoming G7 summit amid frosty ties between Ottawa and New Delhi. G7 is an informal grouping of the most industrialised economies in the world -- France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, and Canada. It is also attended by the European Union (EU), IMF, World Bank and the United Nations are also invited.
India is yet to receive any official invitation for the summit, which is being hosted by Canada from June 15-17, nor is the Indian side inclined to attend, said sources, adding that the relationship must improve before any such high-profile visit takes place.
Chairman-CEO of EY India Rajiv Memani Assumes CII Presidency for 2025-26
The newly constituted national council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at a meeting elected its new office bearers for the year 2025-26. Rajiv Memani, Chairman and CEO of EY India assumed office as the President of CII for 2025-26.
He took over from Sanjiv Puri, Chairman and Managing Director of ITC Ltd.
Memani is also a member of EY Global Executive Board as the Chair of its Growth Markets Council.

IEPFA and SEBI Launch First "Niveshak Shivir" in Pune
The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), successfully launched the pilot chapter of Niveshak Shivir in Pune. The initiative is a part of IEPFA's continued mission to empower investors and strengthen financial literacy. The event marked a significant step in facilitating direct engagement with investors and addressing unresolved financial claims.
In line with IEPFA's broader investor outreach initiatives, Niveshak Shivir was conceptualised to assist investors in resolving pending issues related to unclaimed dividends and shares, updating KYC and nomination details, and facilitating faster settlements of claims – all under one roof.
China Launches Tianwen-2 to Collect Asteroid Samples
China launched its Tianwen-2 mission, dispatching a spacecraft to gather samples from an asteroid near to Mars. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) anticipates that this mission will yield groundbreaking discoveries and expand humanity's knowledge of the cosmos.
The Tianwen-2 probe will collect samples from the asteroid 2016HO3. Additionally, it will explore the main-belt comet 311P, situated beyond Mars.
Aman Sehrawat Clinches Bronze at Ulaanbaatar Open 2025
Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat was back in action for the first time since the Paris Olympics 2024 as he appeared in the men's 57kg freestyle category at the Ulaanbaatar, Momgolia, Open 2025 wrestling Ranking Series, where he won a bronze medal.
Sehrawat, India's youngest individual Olympic medallist, started with a dominant 11-1 win over Kyrgyzstan's Almaz Smanbekov in his quarter-final. However, he was narrowly beaten by Pan American champion Roman Bravo-Young of Mexico in the semis.
Piastri Wins in Spain, Verstappen Demoted
Formula One leader Oscar Piastri won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position in a McLaren one-two with Lando Norris while Max Verstappen was demoted from fifth to tenth for a late collision with George Russell's Mercedes.
Piastri beat teammate and title rival Norris by 2.471 seconds for his fifth win in nine races this season.
Glenn Maxwell Announces ODI Retirement
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from ODI cricket, calling time on an illustrious 13-year career for the national side in the 50-over format.
Maxwell, who first played for Australia in international cricket in an ODI in 2012, was part of the World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023.
The new Railway Division, headquartered at Jammu Tawi and operating under the Northern Railway, came into effect from June 1. It is the 70th division of Indian Railways.
The new division will oversee a substantial area, primarily comprising sections transferred from the Firozpur Division, which is as old as the Indian Railways.
Key sections now under the new division include Pathankot–Jammu– Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan –Srinagar–Baramulla (423 km), Bhogpur Sirwal–Pathankot (87 km), Batala–Pathankot (68 km) and Pathankot–Joginder Nagar narrow gauge section (164 km).
Asian Development Bank Chief Pledges $10 Billion for India's Urban Infrastructure
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) president Masato Kanda, where the latter promised to pledge $10 billion for Indian urban infrastructure development over a period of five years.
The $10 billion investment will seek to transform urban infrastructure across the country, including municipal infrastructure development, Metro extensions, new regional rapid transit system (RRTS) corridors and modernisation of urban services.
Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann Takes Over as Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command
Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann assumed the role of Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command, Indian Air Force, effective June 1.
The Air Marshal is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF in December 1989.
He has flown over 3000 hours primarily on various types of fighter aircraft. He is a pilot Attack Instructor and in his operational career, he has commanded a fighter squadron, been Chief Operations Officer of a forward base and Air Officer Commanding of a premium fighter base.
Andaman & Nicobar Command Gets New Commander-in-Chief
Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana assumed charge as the 18th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN). The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), based at Sri Vijaya Puram, is India's first and only joint services operational command, integrating the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard to safeguard national interests in the strategically vital Indian Ocean Region.
Lt Gen Rana was commissioned into the 10th Battalion of The Garhwal Rifles on December 19, 1987 and later had the honour of commanding the same battalion. A graduate of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and a postgraduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, he is also an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi; Centre for National Defence Studies, Madrid, Spain; and the National Defense University, USA. His academic record is distinguished by topping multiple professional military courses.
In a career spanning over 37 years, the General Officer has held diverse operational, instructional, and staff appointments across various terrains and theatres.
People in Telangana celebrate the state's foundation day on June 2 every year. Telangana was formed on June 2, 2014.
The Congress Working Committee passed a resolution recommending the creation of Telangana as a separate state on July 1, 2013. At the time, protests were ongoing to demand the formation of the state. The Union Government established a committee consisting of a group of ministers to study the issue.
The group prepared a report, leading the Union Government to accept the demand for the creation of the new state. It was followed by the approval of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in the Parliament in 2014.
IIT Delhi Launches First BS Programme in Chemistry for JEE Advanced 2025 Qualifiers
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi introduced its first-ever Bachelor of Science (BS) programme in Chemistry, starting from the academic year 2025-26. The new four-year undergraduate programme will admit students through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 via the JoSAA counselling portal.
The programme aims to encourage early multi-disciplinarity in chemical science education without compromising the depth expected from a pure science degree.
The curriculum is designed to prepare students for diverse roles in core chemistry-based industries, research, academia, and entrepreneurship. With a strong focus on both theoretical and practical aspects, the programme aims to develop technology leaders and researchers capable of addressing real-world challenges.
PM Participates in International Air Transport Association's 81st Annual General Meeting
In line with his commitment to developing world-class air infrastructure and enhancing connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM), at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
It brought together more than 1,600 participants including top global aviation industry leaders, government officials and international media representatives.
The World Air Transport Summit focused on key issues facing the aviation industry including Economics of the Airline industry, Air Connectivity, Energy Security, Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production, Financing Decarbonisation, Innovations among others.
