BSE CEO Highlights India's Tech-Driven Market Transformation At Dubai Fintech Summit

  • India's capital markets are undergoing a dramatic technological transformation, said Sundararaman Ramamurthy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BSE Ltd., speaking at the third Dubai FinTech Summit at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. Held under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and organised by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the summit brought together over 8,000 attendees, 300 speakers from 100 countries, and more than 1,000 investors.

Anita Anand Canada's New Foreign Minister

  • In a major cabinet shakeup, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney named Anita Anand the foreign minister of Canada. She replaced Mélanie Joly, who was moved to the role of Minister of Industry.
  • Anita Indira Anand is a Canadian lawyer, academic, and politician. She had served as Canada's Defence Minister, Transport Minister and Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry so far. She is also the first Hindu woman to be appointed as Canada's Foreign Minister.

US and Saudi Arabia Sign Historic $142 Billion Arms Deal

  • In a move strengthening bilateral ties, the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a massive $142 billion arms deal during President Donald Trump's visit to Riyadh. The White House hailed the agreement as the largest defence sales pact in history, reflecting deepening military and strategic cooperation between the two nations. The deal includes advanced weapon systems, air-to-air missiles, support services, and commercial exports like gas turbines.

PayU Receives Final Authorisation from RBI to Operate as an Online Payment Aggregator

  • PayU, one of India's leading online payments services providers, received the final authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as an Online Payment Aggregator under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
  • PayU Payments Private Limited, one of India's leading digital financial services providers with Prosus as an investor, operates businesses that are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India and offers advanced solutions to meet the digital payment requirements of the Indian market. PayU India companies aim to create a full-stack digital financial services platform to serve all (tapped and untapped) financial needs of customers (e-commerce brands, banks and consumers) through technology solutions.

Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates First 3nm Semiconductor Design Hubs in Noida and Bengaluru

  • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the country's first 3nm chip design centres in Noida and Bengaluru. Set up by Renesas Electronics India, these state-of-the-art facilities represent a transformative leap in India's chip design capabilities, aligning with the nation's vision of becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.
  • The initiative aims to build a self-reliant chip ecosystem, supporting manufacturing in smartphones, medical devices, automobiles, defense, and more.

Gail to Run Dabhol LNG Terminal in Monsoon

  • Indian gas transporter GAIL (India) will operate its 5 million-tonnes-per-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in western India during the monsoon season for the first time, after completing a breakwater facility, Chairman Sandeep Kumar Gupta said.
  • The company typically shuts the Ratnagiri terminal - popularly known as the Dabhol LNG plant - for four months from May 25 each year to avoid high tides. The new breakwater will now enable ship arrivals during the monsoon.
  • Separately, GAIL's head of business development Rajeev Kumar Singhal said that the company plans to expand Dabhol's capacity to 6.3 million tonnes per year by mid-2027, and to 12.5 million tonnes by 2031-32.

  • HCL Technologies (HCLTech) signed the European Commission's AI Pact, reinforcing its commitment to the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies internally and with clients.

  • Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as the head coach of the Brazil national team. The Real Madrid coach replaced Dorival Júnior, who held the job for a tenure of 14 months before getting sacked in March after the team faced a 4-1 defeat at Argentina.

Pakistan Appoint Seasoned Leader as White-Ball Head Coach

  • Mike Hesson was announced as the white-ball head coach of the men's team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed.
  • Hesson stepped into the role previously held by Aqib Javed, who served as the interim head coach following Gary Kirsten's departure in October 2024. Javed will remain involved with Pakistan cricket, transitioning to the position of Director of High Performance.
  • At the international level, Hesson has previously led New Zealand and Kenya. Under his guidance, the Black Caps became a formidable force, reaching the final of the 2015 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

KIYG 2025 Day 10: UP's Kadir Khan Breaks 400m Record

  • Uttar Pradesh's Kadir Khan broke the 400m meet record twice inside 24 hours as Khelo India Youth Games 2025 saw another spate of good performances at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar.
  • In his maiden Khelo India Youth Games, Kadir Khan broke the 400m Games record on May 12 and improved his 47.67 seconds in the final. He clocked 47.34 seconds to relegate Bihar's Piyush Raj (47.43) to the silver. Karnataka's Sayed Sabeer (47.50 sec) won the bronze. Both Raj and Sabeer improved on the previous meet record.

Former Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar Appointed UPSC Chairman

  • The government appointed former defence secretary Ajay Kumar as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), filling the vacancy caused by former Chairperson Preeti Sudan's retirement in April.
  • Members of the commission have a term of six years or till they attain the age of 65 years.
  • Kumar, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, retired as defence secretary in 2022. His term as UPSC Chairman would be till October 2027, when he turns 65.

IWAI Sets Up Its New Office in Srinagar

  • In a move that is set to strengthen the Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways set up its new office in Srinagar's Transport Bhawan. This office will be central to all the IWT works being undertaken by the Authority in the region.
  • IWAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to develop river navigation infrastructure in three national waterways in the Union Territory i.e. NW-26 (River Chenab), NW-49 (River Jhelum), NW-84 (River Ravi).

Aerolloy Technologies Inaugurated India's Largest Single-site Titanium and Superalloy Plant

  • In a landmark achievement for India's defense and aerospace sectors, Aerolloy Technologies Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PTC Industries Limited, inaugurated the world's largest single-site titanium and superalloy materials plant at the Lucknow node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC). The event, graced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also saw the foundation stones laid for seven additional state-of-the-art facilities under India's first Strategic Materials Technology Complex.
  • This milestone positions India among an elite group of nations capable of producing aerospace-grade strategic materials, significantly reducing reliance on costly imports and reinforcing the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision.
  • Spanning 50 acres, the newly inaugurated titanium and superalloy plant boasts an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes, making it the largest single-site titanium remelting facility globally.
  • The facility addresses India's longstanding dependence on imported defense-grade materials, which currently cost Rs. 14,000 crore annually and are projected to rise to Rs. 35,000 crore by 2026.
