IndusInd Bank's Deputy CEO Arun Khurana Resigns

  • Arun Khurana, deputy Chief Executive Officer of IndusInd Bank, resigned with immediate effect, taking responsibility for the loss incurred by the bank due to accounting lapses that led to close to Rs. 2,000 crore of loss.
  • Khurana joined the bank in November 2021 as head of the Global Markets Group. He was earlier with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Singapore, as the regional head of corporate solutions for the Asia Pacific region.

IEPFA Signs MoU with Kotak Mahindra Bank to Enhance Investor Education through Digital Outreach

  • In a move to enhance investor education and protection, the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (KMBL). This strategic partnership aims to amplify the dissemination of critical investor awareness messages through Kotak Mahindra Bank's extensive physical and digital network across the country.
  • The collaboration will see IEPFA's curated investor education content being prominently featured on Kotak Mahindra Bank's ATMs, kiosks, websites, mobile apps and social media platforms. Digital banners, short films, and educational videos produced by IEPFA will be showcased to raise awareness on responsible investing, financial fraud prevention, and the protection of investor's rights.

Amazon Launches First Kuiper Internet Satellites

  • The first 27 satellites for Amazon's Kuiper broadband internet constellation were launched into space from Florida, kicking off the long-delayed deployment of an internet-from-space network that will rival SpaceX's Starlink.
  • The satellites are the first of 3,236 that Amazon plans to send into low-Earth orbit for Project Kuiper, a $10 billion effort unveiled in 2019 to beam broadband internet globally for consumers, businesses and governments - customers that SpaceX has courted for years with its powerful Starlink business.

Suryavanshi Breaks World Record, Becomes Youngest Player to Slam Century in IPL

  • Rajasthan Royal' newest batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history becoming the youngest batter ever to score an IPL century at the age of 14 years and 32 days.
  • Suryavanshi brought up his whirlwind ton off only 35 balls with a whopping 11 sixes and seven fours, against Gujarat Titans recording the second-fastest century in the history of IPL. He was finally out for 101 off 37 balls, becoming the youngest ever to score a century in men's T20 cricket.
  • The record of fastest century in IPL belongs to former West Indies batter Chris Gayle, who had brought up his triple figure mark in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors in April 2013.

Youth National Boxing Championships 2025

  • Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and Haryana dominated the ring in the seventh Youth Men and Women National Boxing Championships 2025. SSCB won the team gold in the men's category while Haryana took the crown in the women's category.
  • The week-long event held at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida was also a qualifier for the prestigious Under-19 Asian Boxing Championship 2025. Twenty outstanding male and female boxers who won gold medals qualified for the upcoming event.

Marshal Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament 2025

  • The sixth edition of the Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament-2025 began on April 29, at the Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium, No 3 Base Repair Depot (BRD), Air Force Station, Chandigarh. The tournament, organised by the Air Force Sports Control Board (AFSCB), will conclude on May 6.
  • The tournament aims to promote hockey and sporting excellence, reflecting Marshal Arjan Singh's legacy and the Indian Air Force's commitment to nurturing talented athletes, who bring laurels to their nation.
  • The participating teams include Chandigarh XI, Tata Naval Hockey Academy, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indian Railways, Indian Army, Indian Navy, Round Glass, Punjab & Sind Bank, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, Central Board of Direct Taxes, Indian Air Force, and Bangladesh Air Force.
  • The tournament offers attractive prize money, with the winners receiving Rs. 3,00,000, runners-up Rs. 2,00,000, Man of the Match Rs. 10,000 (each match), and Player of the Tournament Rs. 25,000.

India and Bhutan hold 6th Joint Group of Customs (JGC) Meeting

  • The 6th Joint Group of Customs (JGC) Meeting between India and Bhutan was held in Thimphu, Bhutan. The meeting was co-chaired by Surjit Bhujabal, Special Secretary and Member (Customs), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Government of India, and Sonam Jamtsho, Director General, Department of Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Finance, Royal Government of Bhutan.
  • The India-Bhutan Joint Group of Customs meetings are held annually to discuss issues relating to re-defining and re-engineering of Customs procedures, promote Customs cooperation and Cross-border trade facilitation with alignment to global best practices. There are 10 Land Customs Stations along the India-Bhutan Border in the States of West Bengal (6) and Assam (4).
  • The 6th JGC meeting discussed a host of bilateral issues for enhancing trade and transit between the two countries. The automation and digitisation of transit processes, Coordinated Border Management (CBM), pre-arrival exchange of Customs data, Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement (CMAA) and movement of transit cargo under Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) were discussed, among others. The meeting concluded on an optimistic note.

BJP Names Venkata Satyanarayana as Rajya Sabha Bypoll Candidate from Andhra

  • The BJP named P. Venkata Satyanarayana as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election from Andhra Pradesh.
  • Venkata Satyanarayana is a veteran BJP leader from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district with long-standing ties with the RSS.
  • Satyanarayana is a lawyer who held several roles in the party in Bhimavaram and also served as the party's vice president for Andhra Pradesh between 2018 and 2021.

PM Participates in YUGM Conclave

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in YUGM Conclave at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. He also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
  • YUGM (meaning "confluence" in Sanskrit) is a first-of-its-kind strategic conclave convening leaders from government, academia, industry, and the innovation ecosystem. It will contribute to India's innovation journey, driven by a collaborative project of around Rs. 1,400 crore with joint investment from the Wadhwani Foundation and Government Institutions.
  • The Conclave aimed to catalyze large-scale private investment in India's innovation ecosystem; accelerate research-to-commercialisation pipelines in frontier tech; strengthen academia-industry-government partnerships; advance national initiatives like ANRF and AICTE Innovation; democratize innovation access across institutions; and foster a national innovation alignment toward Viksit Bharat@2047.

India-France Ink Pact to Procure 26 Rafale Jets

  • India and France inked an inter-governmental agreement to procure 26 naval variants of Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around Rs. 64,000 crore for the Indian Navy. The pact was sealed at a virtual event.
  • The delivery of these aircraft would be completed by 2030.
  • Of the 26 Rafale Aircraft 22 are single-seater and four twin-seater.

Legendary Malayalam Filmmaker Shaji N. Karun Passes Away

  • Legendary Malayalam filmmaker and cinematographer Shaji N. Karun, known for his pathbreaking films and distinctive style of movie making, passed away. He was 73.
  • One of the pioneers of new wave cinema in Malayalam, Shaji Neelakantan Karunakaran, popularly known as Shaji N. Karun, was among the few filmmakers who took the legacy of Malayalam cinema to the international audience breaking all the barriers.
  • A recipient of the Padma Shri and the French honour "Order of Arts and Letters," Karun was the premiere chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
  • He also served as the chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).
