Panel Gives Nod to Shift Cheetahs from Kuno Park to Gandhi Sagar

  • The Cheetah Project Steering Committee cleared the relocation of some of the cheetahs from Kuno National Park to Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • The steering committee, however, advised that the relocation of the cheetahs to Gandhi Sagar, although in the same state, should be carried out with care, taking into account stress factors like the heat while moving them by road. Gandhi Sagar is about 300 kilometres from Kuno.

  • In a strategic branding move, Milkfed Punjab, one of India's largest state dairy cooperatives, unveiled a new mascot named 'Veera' for its flagship dairy brand Verka. Greaves Cotton Appoints Parag Satpute as new MD and Group CEO

  • Engineering firm Greaves Cotton Ltd appointed Parag Satpute as its new Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer. His appointment came after Arup Basu resigned as a Managing Director of the Company.
  • Satpute has previously served as the president of the Fleet Business at Bridgestone Mobility Solutions and was the Managing Director of Bridgestone India.

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the formation of a dedicated task force to support displaced Afghan women cricketers. In a landmark initiative, the ICC joined hands with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA) to assist these talented athletes in both their cricketing and personal development journeys.
  • As part of the initiative, the ICC will establish a dedicated fund to provide direct monetary assistance, ensuring these cricketers have the resources they need to continue pursuing the game they love. This will be complemented by a robust high-performance programme offering advanced coaching, world-class facilities, and tailored mentorship to help them reach their full potential.

Shooting: India Finishes Second in Overall Standings in First Leg of ISSF World Cup

  • In the first leg of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 at Buenos Aires, Argentina, India finished second in the standings behind China. India won a total of 8 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
  • The second stage of the ISSF World Cup 2025 is being held in Lima, Peru, from April 13 to 22.

Telangana Becomes First State to Implement SC Sub-Categorisation

  • The Telangana government became the first in India to implement Scheduled Castes (SC) sub-categorisation, following the Supreme Court's approval. On April 14, 2025—coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary—the state issued a Government Order (GO) enforcing the Telangana Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservations) Act, 2025. The move aims to rationalise the existing 15% SC reservation by dividing 59 SC sub-castes into three groups based on inter-se backwardness, thus ensuring more equitable distribution of benefits.

  • Union Minister Amit Shah addressed the All India Forensic Science Summit 2025 organised by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in New Delhi as the Chief Guest. The theme of the conference was 'Role of Forensic Science in Effective Implementation of New Criminal Laws and Combating Terrorism'. World Art Day

  • The idea behind World Art Day was officially conceived on April 15, 2012, during a General Assembly meeting of the International Association of Art (IAA) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
  • The special day was declared as a special tribute to the birthday of the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci, who is hailed as the symbol of freedom of expression and peace.
  • The theme for World Art Day 2025 is 'A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community Through Art.'

  • Himachal Pradesh celebrated its 78th Foundation Day on April 15.
  • On April 15, 1948, the state was formed by merging 30 small and large princely states. Since then, April 15 has been observed every year as 'Himachal Pradesh Day'.
  • It became a Union Territory on November 1, 1956; however, on December 18, 1970, the State of Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by Parliament, and Himachal Pradesh was designated as the 18th state on January 25, 1971 with Shimla as its capital.

James Anderson Awarded Knighthood Honour

  • Former England fast bowler James Anderson was awarded a knighthood for his services to Cricket as part of former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation honours list. Anderson was the only sportsperson who made it to the list.
  • The English seamer retired from Test cricket in 2024 with 704 wickets, making him England's all-time leading wicket-taker the format.
  • The Prime Minister's Resignation Honours are honours granted at the behest of an outgoing UK Prime Minister following his resignation. In such a list, a Prime Minister may request the reigning monarch to grant peerages, knighthoods, damehoods or other awards in the British honours system to any number of people.

  • Acclaimed writer, retired IAS officer, and social activist P. Sivakami was awarded the Verchol Dalit Literary Award by the Neelam Cultural Centre, founded by filmmaker Pa. Ranjith. UP's Zero Poverty Scheme to be Named after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

North Korea's Mount Paektu Listed as UNESCO Global Geopark

  • The North Korea's Mount Paektu, an active stratovolcano on the North Korean-Chinese border, was designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Global Geopark.
  • UNESCO's executive board approved the recognition, marking the first time a natural reservoir in North Korea has been given a global geopark designation. According to UNESCO's website, it is given to locations that contain sites of "international geological significance managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development."
