Ambuj Chandna Joins DBS Bank India as MD & Head of Consumer Banking Group
Kotak Mahindra Bank's old-timer Ambuj Chandna joined DBS Bank India as MD and Head of Consumer Banking group. Chandna was earlier President and Head of Consumer Bank (Products) at Kotak Mahindra Bank. He moved from Kotak Bank after being associated with the bank for over 16 years.
Chandna replaced Prashant Joshi, who joined DBS Bank in August 2020.
Renault to Acquire Nissan's Stake in India Manufacturing Unit
Renault Group announced that it will acquire the remaining 51% stake in Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL) from Nissan Motor Corp, making it the sole owner of the manufacturing facility in Chennai, India. This move came after a 2023 agreement in which Renault and Nissan jointly invested $600 million to develop six new models for the Indian market.
The Reserve Bank of India Celebrates 90 Years
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) marked its 90th anniversary in 2025, commemorating nine decades of financial governance, economic stability, and monetary policy regulation in India. Established on April 1, 1935, under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, the RBI has played a pivotal role in shaping India's financial landscape. The event celebrates the central bank's journey, achievements, and future roadmap in an era of digital banking and financial inclusion.
Initially, it was a privately owned institution, but in 1949, it was nationalised, giving the government full control over monetary policies.
The first Governor of RBI was Sir Osborne Smith, while Sir C.D. Deshmukh was the first Indian Governor.
RBI introduced the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in 2016 to ensure transparent decision-making.
Veteran Women Hockey Forward Vandana Katariya Retires from International Hockey
Indian women's team stalwart Vandana Katariya bid farewell to international hockey, stating that she is stepping away at the "zenith" of her 15-year illustrious career.
Katariya, the veteran striker with 320 international appearances and 158 goals to her name, left as the most capped player in the history of Indian women's hockey.
Katariya, who made her senior team debut in 2009, was an integral part of some of the most defining moments in the sport, including India's historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she became the first and only Indian woman to score a hat-trick at the Games.

India, Chile Agree to Begin Talks for Economic Partnership Pact
As India and Chile agreed to start negotiations for a comprehensive economic partnership agreement after a bilateral meeting with the visiting President of Chile Gabriel Boric Font, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Chile as the "gateway to Antarctica".
In the field of agriculture, cooperation will be done to ensure food security by combining each other's capabilities.
Describing Chile as an important partner of India in Latin America, Modi said: "India is ready to share its positive experience with Chile in Digital Public Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, Railways, Space and other areas."
Fourth Edition of India-US Naval Exercise Tiger Triumph
The Fourth edition of the bilateral Tri-Service India-US Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, Tiger Triumph, is taking place on the Eastern Seaboard from April 1 to 13, as per the Indian Navy.
The Indian Navy noted that the exercise aims to develop interoperability for conducting HADR operations and formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to establish a Combined Coordination Center (CCC) that would enable rapid and smooth coordination between Indian and US Joint Task Forces (JTF) during exercises, crises, and contingencies.
As per the Indian Navy, the Harbour Phase is being held at Visakhapatnam from April 1-7.
Upon the completion of the Harbour Phase, the ships with troops embarked would sail for a sea phase and undertake maritime, amphibious and HADR operations off Kakinada.

International Fact-Checking Day is observed on April 2, and is all about setting the record straight and protecting the general public from misinformation or 'fake news.' And while the name may appear to be self-explanatory, fact-checkers help to protect the reputation of a publication through the verification of facts and prevention of misinformation or journalistic fraud.
The first official observation of International Fact-Checking Day was on April 2, 2017. However, the concept of having such a day was first conceived in 2014 at a conference for journalists and professional fact-checkers at the London School of Economics. The discussion was born out of a recognition of the danger that political misformation posed, particularly on social media sites; which are consumed by the masses daily.

The Central government approved the transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma to the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Sharma joined the Delhi Judicial Service in 1992 and was promoted to the Higher Judicial Service in 2003. He has held key positions, including Registrar General of the Delhi High Court and Principal District & Sessions Judge, New Delhi.
A Fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute, he has also trained mediators under the Supreme Court's Mediation Project.
