Maruti Suzuki Appoints First In-house Indian Talent to Board

  • India's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki appointed Sunil Kakkar as an Additional Director and Whole-time Director, the first instance of a home-grown Indian employee being nominated as a director on its board by Japanese parent Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC).
  • The company's Board of Directors, at its meeting approved the appointment of Kakkar for a period of three years with effect from April 1, 2025 up to March 31, 2028.

JSW Steel Becomes World's most Valuable Steelmaker with $30.3 bn market cap

  • JSW Steel Ltd. emerged as the most valuable steel company globally, surpassing industry leaders such as ArcelorMittal and Nucor Corp. The Indian steelmaker now holds a market capitalisation of $30.31 billion, exceeding its closest competitors by $91 million to $3 billion.
  • The flagship company of the JSW Group operates integrated steel plants in Vijayanagar, Dolvi, and Salem, along with overseas operations in the United States and Italy.

L&T Wins its Largest Order till Date

  • Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Hydrocarbon Business, L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH), secured its largest-ever contract with Qatar Energy LNG. The Ultra Mega Offshore Contract, awarded for the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Project (NFPS COMP 4), marks a significant milestone for L&T in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
  • As per L&T, the scope of work encompasses the engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of two offshore compression complexes, each comprising of large offshore platforms with compression and power generation facilities, living quarters, flare platforms, interconnected bridges.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Secret US Spy Satellite for NRO

  • SpaceX marked a significant milestone by launching a classified spy satellite for the United States on the 19th anniversary of its first-ever liftoff. A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, successfully launching the NROL-69 mission for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). This launch followed the company's early struggles with its first Falcon 1 rocket in 2006, which failed on its first three attempts.
  • The NROL-69 mission is part of the NRO's strategy to develop a "proliferated architecture" for its satellite network. This architecture involves deploying a larger number of smaller, cost-effective satellites to enhance resilience and responsiveness in reconnaissance operations.

Phil Simmons to Continue as Bangladesh Head Coach until 2027 ODI World Cup

  • Phil Simmons will continue as Bangladesh's head coach for the next two years until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
  • Simmons was initially appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in an interim role until the conclusion of the Champions Trophy 2025. The Bangladesh board then offered him a longer contract that keeps him with the Tigers for the next two years.

Khelo India Para Games 2025

  • The penultimate day of the Khelo India Para Games 2025 saw Paralympian Sonalben Patel from Gujarat secure gold in the women's Class 3 table tennis category. The left-handed Sonalben beat Bihar's Vidya Kumari.
  • The powerlifting competition came to an end at the Khelo India Para Games 2025 with former KIPG medallists making their mark. Over the course of the three days of competitions, the para powerlifting saw four national records being set by Jaspreet Kaur (45 kg), Manish Kumar (54 kg), Seema Rani (61 kg), and Jhandu Kumar (72 kg).
  • Haryana's Pardeep Joon, who had won gold in the first edition of the Khelo India Para Games in December 2023, lifted 194 kg in 107+ kg category and won his second gold medal of the Games.

Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 Concludes

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the Indian Sepak Takraw team for its outstanding performance at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, where it secured seven medals, including a historic gold in the Men's Regu event—India's first-ever top finish in the sport.
  • The Indian Men's Regu team was officially crowned World Champions after clinching the gold medal at the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Cup, held in Patna, Bihar.

New Pamban Rail Bridge to be Inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi

  • The new Pamban rail bridge, connecting Ramanathapuram with Rameswaram Island, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 6, 2025, coinciding with Ram Navami. The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs. 531 crore, will enhance connectivity and railway infrastructure in the region. Alongside the inauguration, the Prime Minister will also flag off a new train service between Tambaram and Rameswaram.
  • The new Pamban bridge, the first vertical lift bridge in Asia, will replace the old bridge, which was built in 1914 and closed in 2022 due to corrosion problems.

The 3rd Session of India-Uganda Joint Trade Committee Held in New Delhi

  • The Third Session of the India-Uganda Joint Trade Committee (JTC) took place in New Delhi, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening economic ties between the two nations after a 23-year gap.
  • Both sides acknowledged that the current trade volume does not reflect the full potential of their partnership and committed to taking focused measures to expand and diversify bilateral trade.
  • The JTC meeting was co-chaired by Economic Adviser, Department of Commerce, Priya P Nair, from the Indian side, and Head of International Political Cooperation Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Uganda, Ambassador Elly Kamahungye Kafeero.

Ex-ED Chief Sanjay Mishra Appointed to EAC-PM

  • Former Enforcement Directorate (ED) chief Sanjay Kumar Mishra was appointed to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) as a full-time member by the Union government. On the same day, the government also appointed former Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba to the NITI Aayog as a full-time member.
  • A 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Income Tax cadre, Mishra led the ED till September 15, 2023. His term ended after the Supreme Court curtailed his extended tenure following petitions that challenged multiple extensions granted to him by the government.

MoD Seals Deal with Bharat Forge & Tata for India's Next-gen ATAGS Artillery

  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) finalised contracts with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited to enhance the Indian Army's artillery capabilities. These deals, worth approximately Rs. 6,900 crore, will provide the Army with 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility Vehicle 6x6 Gun Towing Vehicles. The signing ceremony took place in New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
  • The ATAGS is designed to replace the Army's ageing artillery guns with a more advanced and powerful system.

SIDE-2025 Seminar to Boost India-Seychelles Defence Ties

  • The High Commission of India in Victoria, Seychelles, organised the Seminar on Indian Defence Equipment (SIDE-2025), a virtual event aimed at strengthening defence collaboration between India and Seychelles. The seminar, held in partnership with the Department of Defence Production and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), showcased India's cutting-edge defence technologies through presentations by eminent Indian defence manufacturing firms. The event was attended by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Seychelles, Brigadier Michael Rosette along with senior officers of the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF), highlighting its significance in deepening bilateral military ties.
  • The SIDE-2025 seminar, conducted virtually, provided a platform for Indian defence companies to demonstrate their latest innovations to Seychelles' military leadership. This initiative builds on the success of previous engagements, such as the 2nd Bharat Seychelles Defence Exhibition (SIDE), reflecting India's commitment to expanding avenues of collaboration with Seychelles under its "Make in India" and "Make for the World" vision. The virtual format enabled seamless participation from leading Indian firms, offering a glimpse into advanced systems ranging from radars and UAVs to naval equipment and small arms—capabilities that align with Seychelles' maritime security needs in the Indian Ocean Region (I0R).

  • Tamil actor and director Manoj Bharathiraja, son of legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja, passed away at the age of 48. His untimely demise has left the Tamil film industry and his admirers in deep sorrow. Several eminent personalities, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, music composer Ilaiyaraja, and actor-politician Sarathkumar, mourned his loss and paid heartfelt tributes.
  • Made his acting debut in the 1999 Tamil film Taj Mahal, directed by his father.

Maiyan Samman Yojana in J'khand Extended for Non-Aadhaar Beneficiaries

  • The Jharkhand government announced that under the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana, women whose bank accounts are not linked with Aadhaar will still receive a lump sum payment of Rs. 7,500 for the months of January, February, and March 2025.
  • The provision permitting payments without Aadhaar linkage is temporary and will be valid only until March 2025.
  • To continue receiving assistance beyond this period, beneficiaries must link their bank accounts with Aadhaar and ensure they have a single account.
  • The Jharkhand state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, approved this amendment during a meeting where 18 proposals were sanctioned.
  • The Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana is a welfare initiative launched by the Jharkhand government to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged women in the state.

  • The E-MBA program offers a curriculum covering essential management disciplines such as Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Strategy. The program is delivered by IIM Bodh Gaya's experienced faculty, along with industry experts who will provide insights into contemporary business challenges.

IIT-Mandi, NSDC, NCU Launch BTech in Semiconductor Design & Technology

  • The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), IIT Mandi, and The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with a specialisation in Semiconductor Design and Technology. The agreement was formally signed at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • This partnership aims to address the rising demand for skilled professionals in India's semiconductor industry by equipping students with industry-relevant knowledge and hands-on training.
  • The four-year program is structured into eight semesters.

MoJS C. R. Patil Launches DDWS- UNICEF's 'Ripples of Change'

  • Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C. R. Patil, launched the book, "Ripples of Change: Gender-transformative rural WASH programmes in India" in New Delhi.
  • A joint publication of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, and UNICEF India, Ripples of Change captures ten powerful stories from rural India. Documented by UNICEF, the stories reflect the transformational impact of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Jal Jeevan Mission through the lens of gender empowerment, community leadership, and grassroots innovation.
  • During the event, the Minister also launched the upgraded Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation) website portal. The upgraded website is among the first few government platforms to be successfully onboarded and revamped in full compliance with the latest Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) 3.0.
