The14th Meeting of ADMM-Plus Experts Working Group on Counter-Terrorism Concludes

  • The 14th meeting of ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Experts Working Group on Counter-Terrorism (EWG on CT) concluded in New Delhi. Delegations from ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN countries (Lao PDR, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam), ADMM-Plus member states (China, USA, Russia, Australia, Japan and Republic of Korea) participated in the meeting.
  • During 14th ADMM-Plus EWG on CT, the co-chairs, India and Malaysia conveyed work plan for the activities planned for the cycle 2024-2027. It announced the conduct of Table-Top Exercise for EWG on CT in Malaysia in 2026 and Field Training Exercise in India in 2027.
  • During the two-day meet, discussions were held to focus on evolving a robust and comprehensive strategy to tackle the evolving threat of terrorism and extremism. The meeting was aimed to share the on-ground experience of the Defence Forces of ASEAN countries and its dialogue partners. The meeting laid a foundation for the activities/exercises/meetings/ workshops planned for the current cycle.
  • Earlier, Myanmar and Russia, co-chairs for EWG on CT during the previous cycle for 2021-2024, handed over the co-chairmanship to India and Malaysia for the present cycle (2024-2027). India is hosting the maiden EWG meeting for the current cycle.

World's Glaciers are Losing Record Ice as Global Temperatures Climb, U.N. Says

  • Glaciers around the globe are disappearing faster than ever, with the last three-year period seeing the largest glacial mass loss on record, according to a UNESCO report released in March 2025.
  • The 9,000 gigatons of ice lost from glaciers since 1975 are roughly equivalent to an ice block the size of Germany with the thickness of 25 meters, said Michael Zemp, director of the Switzerland-based World Glacier Monitoring Service.
  • The report coincided with a UNESCO summit in Paris marking the first World Day for Glaciers (March 21), urging global action to protect glaciers around the world.

AFMS, NIMHANS Sign MoU to Boost Mental Health Support for Military Personnel & Families

  • The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, training, and specialised mental health support for military personnel and their families.
  • The MoU was signed by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin and Director NIMHANS Dr Pratima Murthy, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from both the institutions. The collaboration between AFMS and NIMHANS will focus on strengthening mental health services, conducting specialized training for medical personnel, and developing innovative programs to address the mental health issues faced by Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, their families and dependants.

Paras Defence & Space Technologies Bags Order to Develop Anti-drone Laser System

  • Defence engineering company Paras Defence & Space Technologies Ltd secured a contract worth Rs. 142.31 crore from DRDO arm CHESS to develop a high-powered anti-drone laser system. Centre for High Defence Systems & Sciences (CHESS) is a part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The development roadmap for the project is set to be executed in 24 months. Paras Defence is proud to be the first company in India to develop such a state-of-the-art system, the company said.

World Meteorological Day

  • The World Meteorological Day is observed every year on March 23. It commemorates the formal establishment of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
  • On March 23, 1950, the World Meteorological Organisation Convention came into force and became a UN specialised agency in 1951 for meteorology, operation hydrology, and related geophysical sciences. Ever since, WMO has been observing World Meteorological Day with a number of themes each year.
  • The 2025 World Meteorological Day is celebrated keeping the theme of "Closing the Early Warning Gap Together."

The award was presented by London-based think tank Bridge India at the prestigious House of Commons in the UK Parliament. The event took place where the celebrated actor was recognised for his unparalleled impact on the Indian film industry and his philanthropic efforts.

Maharashtra to Implement CBSE-based Curriculum under NEP 2020 in State Schools

  • Maharashtra's Steering Committee approved the adoption of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum framework for schools in the state from class three to twelve, from the academic year 2025-26. The decision, made by School Education Minister Dada Bhuse in a written response to the Legislative Council, is to standardise education in the state and bring it in line with national standards under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • The shift will be done in phases, and the first phase will begin with Classes 1, 3, 5, 8, and 11.
