Intel Appoints Lip-Bu Tan as CEO: A New Era for Semiconductor Leadership

  • Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) has announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 18, 2025. India's GDP to Reach $5.7 Trillion, Becoming Third Largest by 2028: Morgan Stanley

  • According to Morgan Stanley, India's GDP is projected to expand to $5.7 trillion by fiscal 2028, making it the third-largest economy in the world, surpassing Germany and Japan. Currently the fifth-largest economy, India is expected to overtake Japan by 2026 to become the fourth-largest. The country's share in global GDP is set to rise from 3.5% in 2023 to 4.5% in 2029, driven by strong macroeconomic policies, improved infrastructure, and a growing consumer market. The report also outlines different growth scenarios, with GDP potentially reaching $10.3 trillion by 2035 in a bullish case.
  • India is the fifth-largest economy at present after the US, China, Germany, and Japan in 2023. GDP is expected to rise from $3.5 trillion in 2023 to $4.7 trillion in 2026, overtaking Japan to become fourth-largest. By 2028, India will surpass Germany, reaching $5.7 trillion, making it the third-largest economy after the US and China.

SBI to Launch Project Finance Unit for AI, Fintech, and E-Commerce

  • The State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest public sector bank, is establishing a specialised unit to manage project financing for emerging industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), e-commerce, and fintech. This initiative is part of SBI's broader strategy to diversify its project finance operations beyond traditional infrastructure sectors. The bank aims to complete this project within a year and plans to recruit specialised professionals and appoint an external consultant for its execution.

Sunita Williams Spacex Crew-9 Return

  • After a prolonged nine-month stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are finally embarking on their return journey. Their SpaceX Dragon spacecraft successfully undocked on Wednesday, initiating a 17-hour voyage back to Earth. The astronaut crew will travel back to Earth alongside Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
  • Wilmore and Williams have been stranded on the ISS for nine months after reaching there in June last year. They were supposed to stay there for about a week. The astronauts were transported from Earth to the ISS aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.

  • Despite speculation, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) did not provide an official reason for Messi's exclusion. However, Argentine media reports suggest that the star forward suffered a sore left thigh during Inter Miami's 2-1 victory over Atlanta United in Major League Soccer (MLS) on Sunday. Messi played the full 90 minutes, scoring the opening goal in his return to the starting lineup after missing three consecutive matches due to "load management."

Lachit Barphukan Police Academy Inaugurated in Assam by Amit Shah

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam, in March 2025. This significant step aims to strengthen policing in the entire Northeast region and establish the academy as a premier institution. Named after the legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, the academy will train police personnel with modern facilities. During the event, Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present.
  • The first phase of the academy is completed at a cost of Rs. 167 crore, with a total investment of Rs. 1050 crore planned across three phases. The academy is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and will serve as a premier police training center in India. Earlier, Assam's police had to go to other states for training, but now, the academy has already trained 2,000 police personnel from Goa and Manipur. Amit Shah emphasised that in the next five years, the academy will be ranked first among all police academies in India.

Maharashtra Inaugurates First-Ever Temple Dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Bhiwandi

  • In a historic tribute to the legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the state's first-ever temple dedicated to the Maratha king. The inauguration took place in Bhiwandi, Thane, on the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary. The temple stands as a symbol of his heroism, valour, and enduring legacy, offering a sacred place for devotees to honour his contributions to India's history.
  • The newly inaugurated Shivaji Maharaj Temple is a first-of-its-kind structure in Maharashtra, dedicated solely to the revered Maratha ruler. Designed to reflect the architectural grandeur of Maratha forts, this temple embodies Shivaji Maharaj's military precision, bravery, and strategic genius.
  • Speaking at the event, CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that the temple would soon be designated as a pilgrimage site, emphasizing its cultural and spiritual significance. He further stated that the temple was built because Shivaji Maharaj fought battles for God, country, and religion, shaping the identity of Hindus in India.

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today addressed the 57th annual conference of All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) as the Chief Guest in Kokrajhar, Assam. On this occasion, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Shri Biswajit Daimary, the Union Home Secretary, and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), along with several other dignitaries were present.
  • In his address, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) has played a significant role in establishing peace, development, and enthusiasm in the region. Without the role of ABSU, the Bodo Accord would not have been possible, and peace would not have been established in Bodoland. On this occasion, Shri Shah also paid tribute to the five thousand martyrs who fought for the peace of Bodoland.
  • Shri Amit Shah said that today, when entire Bodoland is following the path shown by its leader, Upendra Nath Brahma Ji, the government has decided to name a prominent road in Delhi as Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Marg. He also mentioned that in the first week of April, a program will be held in Delhi where a bust of Upendra Nath Brahma Ji will be unveiled. He said, the Modi government and the Assam government will bring every dream of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Ji to fruition.

Veteran BJP Leader and Former Union Minister Dr. Debendra Pradhan Passes Away at 84

  • Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Dr. Debendra Pradhan passed away on Monday in New Delhi after a brief illness. He was 84 years old and is survived by his wife and two sons. Dr. Pradhan breathed his last at the official residence of his son, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
  • Dr. Debendra Pradhan was born on July 16, 1941. He pursued medicine and earned his MBBS degree from SCB Medical College, Cuttack, in 1966. After completing his studies, he began his career as a medical officer in Talcher. However, his passion for social service and agriculture led him to leave government service and dedicate his life to public welfare.

Ordnance Factory Day

  • Ordnance Factory Day is celebrated on 18th March every year in India as a mark of establishing the first Ordnance Factory in India in 1801 in Cossipore, Kolkata. The day commemorates the efforts and contributions of the Ordnance Factories in India that strengthens the defense capabilities in India. The factories manufacture a wide range of defense equipment, tanks, small arms and play an important role in success of India's defense operations. 
  • Celebrated on 18th March every year, Ordnance Factories Day celebrates the establishment of the first Ordnance Factory in the country. The Ordnance Factory Board established in 1979, manages the defense production in India. In 1775, the Gunpowder Factory was set up in Ishapore near Kolkata by the British East Company that catered to the needs of the British Indian Army. This year marked the beginning of indigenous production of arms and ammunition in India.
