SEBI Launches Bond Central: A Centralised Database for Corporate Bonds

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduced a centralised database portal named Bond Central to enhance transparency and streamline access to corporate bond-related information. This initiative aims to create a single, authentic source of information on corporate bonds issued in India, benefiting investors and other market participants.
  • The Bond Central portal has been developed through a collaboration between Online Bond Platform Providers (OBPP) Association and Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs), which include stock exchanges and depositories. The portal is intended to serve as an information repository for the public and is accessible free of cost.

Amazon Unveils First Quantum Chip 'Ocelot'

  • Amazon unveiled a prototype of its first-ever in-house quantum computing chip called 'Ocelot.' The tech giant said that the Ocelot chip has been designed to help Amazon build highly efficient hardware systems.
  • Ocelot is a nine-qubit chip that has been internally fabricated by Amazon. The company claimed that Ocelot can reduce the costs of implementing quantum error correction by up to 90 per cent, when compared to current approaches.

  • Karting sensation Atiqa Mir (10) became the first Indian and Asian to be signed by Formula 1 Academy for its driver program, a testament to her rapid growth in the world of motorsport.
  • F1 Academy, a female only racing series owned by Formula 1, has decided to take Atiqa on board for its Discover Your Drive Program (DYD) after closely tracking her stellar performances on the karting circuit.
  • The racer from Jammu and Kashmir is only one of three drivers in the mini category (age 8-11) worldwide to be chosen for the DYD program.

India Gifts Interceptor Boat PB Boudeuse to Seychelles

  • In a significant step toward bolstering maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), India formally handed over the Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-449 to the Seychelles Coast Guard. The vessel, now commissioned as Patrol Boat (PB) Boudeuse, was presented during a ceremony presided over by Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan, underscoring the deepening defence partnership between the two nations. This handover marked the fifth Made-in-India patrol boat gifted to Seychelles, reinforcing India's commitment to its Security and Growth for All in the Region" (SAGAR) vision, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • President Ramkalawan, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces, lauded India's consistent support in strengthening his country's maritime capabilities. The ceremony, attended by senior officials from both nations, symbolized a shared commitment to regional stability amid growing asymmetric and non-conventional challenges in the IOR, including the expanding influence of external powers like China.

Advocate Sartej Singh Narula Elected President of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association

  • Advocate Sartej Singh Narula was elected the President of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHCBA).
  • Narula secured 1,781 votes, defeating his nearest rival by 377 votes. Narula has been in practice since 1989.
  • Narula defeated the incumbent President Vikas Malik, who came third with 816 votes. Advocate Ravinder Singh Randhawa, who came second, secured 1,404 votes.
  • A total of seven candidates were in fray for the post of President.
  • Meanwhile, Advocate Nilesh Bhardwaj was elected as the Vice President of PHCBA. He secured 1501 votes.
  • Advocates Gangandeep Jammu, Bhagyashri Setia and Harvinder Singh Maan were elected as Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
