Madhya Pradesh Now Home to India's Highest Vulture Population

  • Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of vulture populations in the country after the conclusion of the first phase of the 2025 vulture census. According to the state Forest Department, the total number of vultures in the state was 12,981. In the last census, there were 10,845 vultures in the state.
  • The first phase of the 2025 vulture census was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department in February 2025. The census was conducted across all the forested areas, national parks, tiger reserves and sanctuaries of the state.
  • The Forest Department has been conducting the vulture census in the state since 2016. In 2016 there were 6 thousand 999 vultures in the state.
  • The next census was conducted in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024 and 2025.

  • As part of this collaboration, Paytm will provide mentorship, infrastructure support, market access, and funding opportunities to start-ups, helping them scale and innovate. This initiative aims to equip entrepreneurs with essential resources, enhancing their ability to develop cutting-edge payment and financial technology solutions.

RBI Raises Small Loan Limit for UCBs to Rs. 3 Crore

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revised the small-value loan ceiling for Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs), increasing it to Rs. 3 crore per borrower. This change is part of a broader initiative to redefine small-value loans and strengthen the financial stability of UCBs. While the new cap allows greater lending flexibility, RBI retained existing conditions, timelines, and prudential norms to ensure responsible credit allocation.

NASA Launches Satellite on Mission to Detect Water on the Moon

  • A dishwasher-sized NASA satellite was launched into space from Florida to identify where water, a precious resource for lunar missions, resides on the moon's surface in places such as the permanently shadowed craters at its poles.
  • A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral carrying NASA's Lunar Trailblazer orbiter. The Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin's space division.
  • Lunar Trailblazer, which weighs about 440 pounds (200 kg) and measures about 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) wide when its solar panels are fully deployed, was sent to find and map water on the moon's surface.

Ibrahim Zadran Breaks All-time Champions Trophy Record

  • Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran broke ICC Champions Trophy's all-time record for the highest individual score when right hander slammed a majestic 177 against England in a crucial Group B fixture at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
  • Ibrahim Zadran surpassed England's Ben Duckett who had scored 165 against Australia earlier in the tournament. In fact, Ibrahim Zadran also became Afghanistan's first-ever centurion in Champions Trophy history.

IOC Grants Provisional Recognition to Global Body World Boxing

  • In a major boost for boxing, the International Olympic Committee granted provisional recognition to World Boxing. It is a major step towards the sport's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
  • The IOC conducted the boxing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics after it de-recognised the International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2023 due to problems in governance and finance. IOC banned IBA, run by Russian businessman Umar Kremlev, in 2019 over governance, finance, refereeing and ethical issues and did not involve it in running the boxing events at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, before stripping it of recognition in 2023, an extremely rare move by the IOC.
  • The IOC has not included the sport in the LA 2028 programme yet, having urged national boxing federations to create a new global boxing body or risk missing out on the Olympics in three years.
  • World Boxing was launched in 2023 and has now 78 members across five continents.

SWAYATT Completes 6 Years of Digital Procurement Success

  • The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) celebrated six years of the Start-ups, Women & Youth Advantage through eTransactions (SWAYATT) initiative at its headquarters in New Delhi. Since its launch in February 2019, SWAYATT has aimed to increase the participation of women-led enterprises, start-ups, youth, and marginalised groups in public procurement. Rooted in GeM's commitment to social inclusion, the initiative fosters ease of doing business, facilitates direct market linkages, and empowers small-scale entrepreneurs.
  • SWAYATT focuses on onboarding, training, and supporting last-mile sellers, especially women entrepreneurs, micro & small enterprises (MSEs), and self-help groups (SHGs).

Nitish Kumar Expands Bihar Cabinet to Full Capacity

  • With around eight months left for Assembly elections in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his Cabinet with seven new ministers, all from alliance partner BJP. The Cabinet now has 36 ministers including the CM, the maximum number allowed in the state, which has a 243-member Assembly, for the first time since 2005.
  • BJP, the senior alliance partner, now has 21 ministers, followed by Nitish's JD(U) with 13, and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) with one. The state also has an Independent minister.
  • The development comes a day after state BJP chief Dilip Kumar Jaiswal resigned as land and revenue minister to adhere to the party's "one person, one post" policy.
  • Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office to the new ministers, all of whom are Assembly members.

Cabinet Clears 14 Waqf Bill Changes by House Panel amid Row over 'Bias'

  • The Union Cabinet approved changes to the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The Cabinet accepted 14 of the 23 changes proposed by a joint parliamentary committee - to which the bill had been referred in August 2024.
  • The amended bill will now likely be tabled when the House reconvenes March.

HAL Signs MoU with BEML for Strategic Collaboration in Learning, Development

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited signed an MoU with BEML Ltd to collaborate on leadership and technical training programmes aimed at skill development and professional excellence. As part of this strategic collaboration, the HAL Management Academy will design and deliver induction training, middle and senior management training, specialised workshops, and certification programmes in key areas such as six sigma, quality, reliability, data analytics, and industry 4.0.
  • The partnership will also facilitate industrial visits, knowledge-sharing sessions, joint conferences, internships, and project-based learning opportunities for BEML professionals.
  • This MoU represents a significant step towards fostering industry-academia collaboration, strengthening India's defence manufacturing ecosystem, and equipping professionals with cutting-edge knowledge and skills.

Military Exercise 'Jal-Thal-Raksha 2025' Held at Bet Dwarka

  • The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard and Marine Police, conducted the large-scale military exercise 'Jal-Thal-Raksha 2025' at Bet Dwarka, Gujarat. The exercise aimed to strengthen island security, combat illegal encroachment, and enhance coordination between various security forces. The drill was observed by multiple government agencies, ensuring preparedness against potential security threats.

India Successfully Test Fires Naval Anti-Ship Missile

  • India has successfully conducted the test-firing of a first-of-its-kind Naval Anti-Ship Missile (NASM-SR) from Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha in. The missile was launched from an Indian Naval Seaking helicopter and successfully demonstrated its precision strike capability. This achievement marks a significant milestone in India's defence and naval warfare capabilities.
  • The test was conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Indian Navy. According to the Defence Ministry, the missile successfully hit its target, a small ship, in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range. The successful flight test showcased India's advancements in missile technology, particularly in naval warfare systems.

Renowned Gujarati Poet and Essayist Anil Joshi Passes Away

  • Renowned Gujarati poet and essayist Anil Joshi, known for his works such as Kadach and Statue, and for returning his 1990 Sahitya Akademi award to protest attacks on literary writers in 2015, passed away.
  • Joshi's first poem was published in 1962, in a Gujarati cultural magazine, Kumar, while he was still in college. The poem was about nature, and was well appreciated. He published his first Gujarati poetry collection titled Kadach in 1970, following which he migrated to Mumbai. He worked as a documentation expert for the Commerce Weekly.
