RDAI Forms 7-Member Committee to Review Insurance Sector Reforms
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) formed a high-powered committee, led by Dinesh Khara, former Chairman of State Bank of India, to scrutinise various aspects of the Insurance Act 1938 and suggest amendments. The IRDAI move came at a time when the Indian government is gearing up to introduce the Insurance Amendment Bill in Parliament, which proposes allowing 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector.
The seven-member panel includes N. S. Kannan, former MD and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance; Girish Radhakrishnan, former CMD of United India Insurance; Rakesh Joshi, former member of IRDAI; Saurabh Sinha, former executive director of RBI; Alok Misra, MD and CEO of MFIN and legal expert L. Vishwanathan.

The competition hosted under aegis of Chancellor of State Universities hosted by Gondwana University, Gadchiroli marks the first time in the university's history that it received the honour of organising a state-level sports festival.
The sports meet will features 8 sports disciplines - Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Athletics and Chess for boys and girls with an expected participation of more than 3500 athletes. Matches are going being held at multiple venues in Chandrapur and Ballarpur forest area, with competitions taking place in morning and evening sessions.

PM Inaugurates 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan
Marathi was recently granted classical language status by the government. Taking this further and celebrating the rich culture and heritage of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. He also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
The Sammelan hosted a diverse array of panel discussions, book exhibitions, cultural performances, and interactive sessions with eminent literary figures. The Sammelan celebrated Marathi literature's timeless relevance and explore its role in contemporary discourse, including themes of language preservation, translation, and the impact of digitalisation on literary works.
India Rolls Out Digital Pilot Licenses, Second After China
India took a major step in modernising its aviation sector by launching the Electronic Personnel License (EPL) for flight crew. With this initiative, India became the second country in the world after China to implement digital licensing for pilots. EPL, launched by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, is expected to enhance convenience, transparency, and efficiency in the licensing process. The initiative aligns with India's vision of digital transformation and aviation safety while preparing for the growing demand in the aviation industry.

Nagaland's Forest Project Recognised with SKOCH Award
The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) was honoured with the SKOCH Award 2024, a prestigious recognition that celebrates outstanding contributions to national development. The award was presented during the 100th SKOCH Summit held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Ango Konyak, Deputy Project Director of NFMP, and Wennyei Konyak, Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House in New Delhi, accepted the award on behalf of the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (DEFCC), Government of Nagaland (GoN). The project, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is focused on improving forest ecosystems, rehabilitating jhum (shifting cultivation) areas, and enhancing livelihoods through sustainable practices.
The NFMP is a significant initiative with a 10-year timeline, aiming to conserve forests and uplift communities through targeted interventions. The project spans 185 villages across 11 districts in Nagaland and covers an area of over 79,000 hectares. The core goal is to enhance forest management, promote environmental conservation, and generate sustainable livelihoods in rural areas, with the formation of self-help groups being a key component of the project.
