India Skills Report 2025

  • The India Skills Report 2025 was released based on a comprehensive Global Employability Test (GET) conducted across the country.
  • The report surveyed over 6.5 lakh youth and captured insights from 1,000 corporations spanning 15 industries.
  • Kerala continues to shine as one of the most employable States in India, as indicated by the India Skills Report 2025.
  • The report, published by talent assessment agency Wheebox in association with various agencies including the All India Council for Technical Education, Confederation of Indian Industry and Association of Indian Universities, revealed that Kerala's workforce maintains a strong employability rate of 71%, placing it on the fifth position after Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Kerala also joined the ranks of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh as the top States favoured for employment across India. The State is especially preferred by female job aspirants, in a validation of its strong workplace inclusion initiatives and diverse professional environments.

  • Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi cemented his place in cricket history by becoming the youngest bowler to take 100 wickets in all three formats of the game. He achieved this remarkable milestone during the first T20I against South Africa.
  • Afridi has 116 wickets in 31 Tests, 112 wickets in 56 ODIs, and 100 wickets in 74 T20Is.
  • Afridi joined an exclusive club of bowlers who have taken 100 wickets in all formats, alongside cricketing legends like Lasith Malinga, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tim Southee.

Centre to Incubate 8 New Smart Cities under New Cities Scheme

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched a new scheme extending the Smart City Mission, with an allocation of Rs. 8,000 crore as a performance-based challenge fund for incubating 8 new cities. This initiative aims to manage the rapid urbanisation pressures following the success of the Smart Cities Mission. Under this scheme, each state can have only one new city through the allocated fund.
  • The selection process included the formation of an Expert Committee to finalize bid parameters and eligibility conditions. A total of 28 proposals from 23 states were received, despite the initial lack of proposals from the North-Eastern States. The proposed cities include notable ones like Kopparthay (Andhra Pradesh), Gumin Nagar (Arunachal Pradesh), New MOPA Ayush City (Goa), Aerocity (Kerala), and Thirumazhisai (Tamil Nadu), among others.

CCS Clears Rs. 20,000 crore Make in India Projects for Su-30 Fighter Jets, 100 K-9 Howitzers

  • In a major success for Make in India in defence sector, the Cabinet Committee on Security cleared two major projects worth around Rs. 20,000 crore for 12 Su-30 MKI fighter jets for the Indian Air Force and 100 K-9 Vajra Self-propelled howitzers for the Indian Army.
  • The 12 SU-30MKI jets for the Indian Air Force would be licensed manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at its Nashik facility and cost around Rs. 13,000 crore.
  • The order for 100 K-9 self-propelled howitzers to be made by Larsen and Toubro at Hazira in Gujarat is a repeat order as already 100 of them have been inducted into the Army.

  • Time Magazine named Donald Trump as its person of the year for the second time; he previously won the honour after winning the presidential election in 2016.
  • The Republican President-elect rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to mark the honour alongside several of his family members and chants of "U-S-A".
  • Time magazine's tradition - started in 1927 as "Man of the Year".
  • Other previous winners include climate change activist Greta Thunberg, former President Barack Obama, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Pope Francis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kejriwal Promises $25 Monthly Aid for Women under 'Mahila Samman Yojana' if AAP Wins Delhi Election

  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' was approved by the Delhi government. Under the scheme, which is aimed at women's empowerment, eligible women in the national capital will be granted a monthly financial aid of Rs. 1,000 ($12 approx.).
  • Kejriwal also said that while the current amount is set at Rs. 1,000 ($12 approx.), it will be increased to Rs. 2,100 ($25 approx.) if the AAP wins the upcoming Delhi assembly elections that are likely to be held in February next year. The present assembly's tenure will end on February 23, 2025.
