Pakistan Invites PM Modi for SCO Meet in Islamabad
Pakistan invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Council of Heads of Government meeting to be held in Islamabad in October.
Pakistan holds the rotating chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) and in that capacity, will be hosting the two-day in-person SCO Heads of Governments Meeting on October 15-16.
The SCO, comprising India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is an influential economic and security bloc that has emerged as one of the largest trans-regional international organisations.
First Indigenously Developed Pollution Control Vessel Launched in Goa
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched its first indigenously developed Pollution Control Vessel, 'Samudra Pratap,' in Goa. Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth presided over the event. The vessel, built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), aims to address oil spillage along India's coastlines and represents a significant milestone in indigenous shipbuilding.
The ceremony was attended by Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyaya, Chairman and Managing Director of GSL, along with officials from the Ministry of Defence, ICG, Indian Navy, and GSL. The launch underscores GSL's entry into the elite group of Indian shipyards capable of producing state-of-the-art Pollution Control Vessels.

Cabinet Approves Setting up of 12 Industrial Smart Cities across 10 States
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved setting up of 12 industrial smart cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs. 28,602 crore.
The project spans across 10 states and is strategically planned along six major corridors. These industrial areas will be located in Khurpia in Uttrakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in, Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan.
The move is set to transform the industrial landscape of the country creating a robust network of industrial nodes and cities that will significantly boost economic growth and global competitiveness.
Kaivalya Vohra, Youngest Indian on Hurun Rich List 2024
In a major sign of quick commerce firms' electric rise in India, 21-year-old Zepto co-founder Kaivalya Vohra retained the tag of youngest billionaire on the Hurun India Rich List 2024 with a total net worth of Rs. 3,600 crore.
The 2003-born entrepreneur made his debut for the first time on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich 2022 at the age of 19.
Vohra's friend and 22-year-old co-founder Aadit Palicha is the second youngest billionaire in the country with a net worth of Rs. 4,300 crore, according to the 2024 rich list.
Apart from Palicha and Vohra, Shashvat Nakrani of BharatPe (Rs. 1,300 crore, age 26), Ritesh Agarwal of Oyo (Rs. 1,900 crore, age 30), Alakh Pandey of Physics Wallah (Rs. 4,500 crore, age 32), and Harshil Mathur (Rs. 8,700 crore, age 33) and Shashank Kumar (Rs. 8,700 crore, age 33) of Razorpay make the list. Most of these billionaires run payment services firm, online hotel booking website, and edtech company.
Salsa European Satellite Set to Re-Enter Earth after 24 Years
After 24 years of providing valuable data on Earth's magnetic shield, the European Space Agency's (ESA) satellite named 'Salsa' is set to re-enter the atmosphere on September 8. Launched in 2000, Salsa was part of the groundbreaking Cluster mission, a constellation of four satellites investigating the sun-earth connection. Next month, it will be the first of the four Cluster satellites to make its fiery descent back to Earth, re-entering the atmosphere over the South Pacific.

The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, launched the new SHe-Box portal, a centralised platform aimed at making workplaces safer for women by addressing complaints of sexual harassment. The launch event, held in New Delhi, also included the introduction of a revamped ministry website.
The SHe-Box portal serves as a centralised repository of information related to Internal Committees (ICs) and Local Committees (LCs) across the country, covering both government and private sectors. It allows women to file complaints, track their status, and ensures timely processing by ICs, with real-time monitoring facilitated by a designated nodal officer.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a few days after quitting the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Champai joined the saffron camp during a ceremony in Ranchi, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in attendance.
Champai led the JMM-led government in Jharkhand during a political crisis that arose from the arrest of Hemant Soren in a money laundering case earlier this year. His tenure as the CM was brief, lasting from February 2 to July 3. He resigned when Hemant Soren returned as CM on July 4.

New Zealand's Maori King, Kiingi Tuheitia Pootatau Te Wherowhero VII, passed away at the age of 69, just days after celebrating 18 years on the throne. Karnataka Launches Pilot Project Experimenting with Ovitraps to Control Spread of Dengue and Malaria
To curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria, the Health Department and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) installed ovitraps, a first-of-a-kind initiative in Bengaluru.
Ovitraps, which attract and eliminate mosquitoes, were installed in Gopalpura. The pilot programme was inaugurated by Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
As part of this pilot project, 120 ovitraps were installed in various households in Gopalpura. These bio-devices are designed to specifically attract and destroy Aedes mosquitoes, which are known carriers of dengue and other diseases.
