EU leaders Nominate Von der Leyen in the Bloc's Top Job
EU leaders nominated current European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen for a second five-year term in the bloc's top job at a summit in Brussels.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was picked as the EU's next foreign affairs chief and former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa was chosen as the next chairman of EU summits.
All three candidates are from centrist, pro-EU factions.
The European Parliament is due to vote on the nominations next month.
Paraguay Becomes 100th Full Member of the International Solar Alliance
Paraguay officially became the 100th full member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), marking a significant milestone in global solar energy cooperation. The Ambassador of Paraguay, H. E. Fleming Raul Duarte, handed over the Instrument of Ratification during a meeting in New Delhi with Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary (ED & MER) and Head of Depository.
Launched in 2015 during COP21 by India and France, the ISA aims to accelerate global solar energy deployment to support climate action. Headquartered in India, it addresses barriers in technology, finance, and capacity to scale up solar energy globally.
With "One Sun One World One Grid" as a guiding philosophy, the ISA mobilizes efforts to reduce solar energy costs and aims to attract over USD 1 trillion in investments by 2030. India continues to lead initiatives like the Solar Pumping Programme and Solar Electrification of Health Centres, advancing solar energy adoption in agriculture and healthcare sectors globally.

NASA successfully launched the fourth and final satellite in a series of advanced weather satellites for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). The GOES-U (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) will benefit the nation by providing continuous coverage of weather and hazardous environmental conditions across much of the Western Hemisphere.
The satellite was launched on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

Indian Track Athlete Kiran Pahal Qualifies For Paris Olympics
Indian track athlete Kiran Pahal qualified for the Paris Olympics in the women's 400m event. Kiran from Haryana clocked 50.92 seconds in the semi-finals at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Panchkula. The Olympic qualification mark was set at 50.95 seconds.
Kiran also became the second fastest Indian runner in the women's 400m after Hima Das, who set the national record of 50.79 seconds at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. The Inter-State Championships were the last chance for India's athletes to make the Olympic cut.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over the Medium Range-Microwave Obscurant Chaff Rocket (MR-MOCR) to the Indian Navy in a ceremony held in New Delhi. This rocket creates a microwave obscurant cloud in space, forming an effective shield against threats with radio frequency seekers.
Phase-I Trials: Conducted on Indian Navy ships, demonstrating the MOC cloud's persistence in space.
Phase-II Trials: Showed a 90% reduction in Radar Cross-Section (RCS) of an aerial target, with the results cleared by the Indian Navy.
