Donald Trump became the first former US President to be convicted of a felony as a grand jury in New York found him guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
The Biden Harris Campaign said no one is above the law while Trump said the verdict is a result of a rigged political system.
Trump's sentencing is scheduled for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he will be formally nominated as the party's presidential candidate against incumbent Joe Biden in the November elections.
Apurva Chandra Appointed as Chairperson of Committee A of 77TH WHA Event
Apurva Chandra, Union health secretary, Government of India, was appointed as the Chairperson of the Committee A at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA), announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Committee A of WHA, the event held from May 27 to June 1 held at Geneva, was chaired by India.
Committee A is tasked with facilitating crucial discussions on a range of programmatic topics. These include universal health coverage, public health emergency preparedness and response, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, and sustainable financing for the World Health Organization (WHO).
The National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL), India's state-owned bad bank, appointed P. Santhosh as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The decision was made by NARCL's board, which recommended Santhosh for a three-year term at the helm of the asset reconstruction company.
P. Santhosh brings a wealth of experience to NARCL, having previously held the position of Chief General Manager at Canara Bank, one of the sponsor institutions of the asset reconstruction company. His familiarity with the banking sector and expertise in stressed asset resolution make him well-suited for the challenging task of reviving distressed assets acquired by NARCL.
Asian Development Bank's $2.6 Billion Sovereign Lending to India in 2023
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed $2.6 billion in sovereign lending to India in 2023, aiming to bolster various sectors including urban development, power, industry, horticulture, connectivity, and climate resilience.
The loans target projects fostering India's structural transformation, job creation, infrastructure enhancement, green growth, and socioeconomic inclusiveness, integrating smart technologies and innovations.
Funding includes initiatives such as the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor, urban service improvement in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Tripura, road connectivity in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, horticulture development in Himachal Pradesh, and expansion of the Delhi–Meerut rapid rail transit corridor.
India, a member since the ADB's inception in 1966, remains its largest borrower, receiving loans, grants, and technical assistance totalling $55.3 billion. India ranks fourth among ADB shareholders, with the United States, Japan, China, and Australia as the top shareholders.
James Webb Telescope Finds Record-breaking Distant Galaxy (02)
The James Webb Space Telescope discovered what appears to be a new record-holder for the most distant known galaxy, a remarkably bright star system that existed just 290 million years after the Big Bang, according to NASA.
The galaxy has been named JADES-GS-z14-0.
In addition to JADES-GS-z14-0, NASA also discovered another distant galaxy JADES-GS-z14-1, that is almost equally far away. This takes second spot in the ranking of the earliest galaxies ever observed by humans so far.
India Reiterates Support for Palestinian Statehood
India reaffirmed its backing for the statehood of Palestine. Norway, Spain, and Ireland recently recognized Palestine. Following these European nations' recognition of Palestine, India reiterated its long-standing stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal discussed India's longstanding support for the two-state solution and Palestinian statehood.
IAF Takes Part in US-led Red Flag-Alaska for Multi-nation Military Drills
The Indian Air Force joined a 16-day multi-nation mega military exercise in Alaska in the US that is designed to provide realistic training to participating forces in a simulated combat environment.
The IAF deployed Rafale fighter jets for the `Red Flag' exercise in Alaska in the US from May 30 to June 14. Approximately 3100 service members are expected to fly, maintain and support more than 100 aircraft during the exercise.
The `Red Flag' exercise is designed to provide realistic training in a simulated combat environment enabling joint combined forces to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures while improving interoperability with fellow service members.
