Delhi Ranks 350 in Oxford Global Cities Index Report 2024
Delhi was placed 350 in the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2024, making it the highest ranked Indian city. The ranking compares the world's 1000 cities.
Bengaluru, India's IT hub, stood at 411, higher than the country's financial capital Mumbai, which stood at 427.
On the other hand, Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh ranked last in the index, at 1000th place.
the Global Cities Index Report is an annual report that ranks roughly 1,000 largest cities across the world, spanning 163 different countries in five crucial categories.
The index is calculated based on scores across categories such as Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance. These scores are combined to generate an overall rank for each city. In 2023, cities in the report accounted for 60% of global GDP and 30% of the world's population.
Once again, New York achieved the highest ranking in all five categories with a score of 100, followed by London and San Jose securing the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively.
Bandhan Bank Seeks External Candidate for CEO Role as Ghosh Set to Retire
Kolkata-based Bandhan Bank is considering an external candidate to succeed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, who announced his scheduled retirement on July 9.
In April, the bank appointed headhunting firm Egon Zehnder to search for candidates for the CEO position.
RITES Signs Pact with Bangladesh Railway to Supply 200 Passenger Coaches
State-owned RITES Ltd signed a contract with Bangladesh Railways to supply 200 broad-gauge passenger carriages to the neighbouring country.
The export arm of Indian Railways, RITES, won the $111.26 million (approximately Rs. 915 crore) contract, funded by European Investment Bank, through a global competitive bidding process.
Besides supply, RITES will offer its expertise in design, spare parts support and training as per the terms and conditions of the contract.
The contract has a supply with a commissioning period of 36 months, followed by a warranty period of 24 months.
RITES Ltd, formerly known as Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited, is a Navaratna central public sector undertaking under India's Ministry of Railways. It was incorporated on April 26, 1974.
It is headquartered in Sector-29, Gurgaon, Haryana, India.

Ekta, a Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer, had won a bronze medal in the Asian Para Games China.

3,300 CISF Contingent Takes Full Charge of Parliament Security; CRPF Exits
More than 3,300 CISF personnel took over the complete counterterrorism and anti-sabotage security duties at the Parliament complex following the withdrawal of over 1,400 CRPF staff from the country's most important symbol of democracy.
The parliament duty group (PDG) of the CRPF wound up its entire administrative and operational paraphernalia — vehicles, weapons and commandos — from of the complex and its commander, a deputy inspector general (DIG)-rank officer, handed over all the security points in the complex to the incoming CISF group.

The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India appointed Dr. Bikramjit Chaudhuri as Chief of Measurement Science and Analytics. He succeeded Dr. Derrick Grey, who left the organisation after a six-year stint.
Dr. Chaudhuri holds a Ph.D. from IIT Bombay and a Master of Statistics degree from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi. SC Student Enrolment Sees 44% Increase from 2014 to 2022
The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) reported a significant increase in student enrolment under various categories from 2014-15 to 2021-22. According to the data shared by the NCBC, enrolment of students from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category rose by 44 per cent, from 4.61 million to 6.62 million. Minority female student enrolment also saw a notable increase of 42.3 per cent, growing from 1.07 million to 1.52 million during the same period.
NCBC Chairman Hansraj Gangaram Ahir highlighted the government's efforts in enhancing the constitutional rights of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The data showed that female SC enrolment increased by 51 per cent, while the enrolment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) students grew by 65.2 per cent, from 1.641 million to 2.71 million, with female ST enrolment increasing by 80 per cent.

India's Global Travel & Tourism Index Rank up at 39th: WEF Index
India's rank on the World Economic Forum's Travel & Tourism Development Index 2024 has risen to 39th place, with global tourism activities returning to pre-pandemic levels, the annual report showed. While the US topped the list, India is ranked highest in South Asia and among the lower-middle-income economies.
India was ranked 54th in the previously published index in 2021, though changes made to the index parameters limit its comparability to earlier years.
After the US, Spain, Japan, France and Australia figure among the top five in the 2024 list.
