BEL Bags Rs 2,673 crore Order from Goa Shipyard, Garden Reach Shipbuilders
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) received an order of Rs. 2,673 crore from Goa Shipyard Limited and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers for the supply of 14 types of sensors for use on Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPV).
With this, BEL has bagged cumulative orders of worth Rs. 25,935.15 crore till now in the current financial year (2022-2023).
Ministry of Rural Development Collaborates with JioMart
The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JioMart. This partnership aims to amplify the reach of products crafted by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) associated with the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), empowering rural artisans.
The MoU facilitates the on boarding of SHGs as sellers on the JioMart e-commerce platform.
The collaboration aligns with MoRD's SARAS collection initiative, ensuring a broader consumer base for SHG products.
Former Proteas Captain Dean Elgar to Retire after IND-SA Test in Cape Town
Former South Africa Test captain Dean Elgar will retire after the two-match Test series against India. South Africa vs India 2nd Test, starting January 3, is going to be his last Test match.
Elgar said that the Cape Town Test is going to be his last as he termed the New Lands' stadis his favourite. Elgar had made his Test debut in Cape Town and he is hoping to score the last at the same venue.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh and Jugraj Singh struck a brace each as the Indian men's hockey team beat France 5-4 in its fourth and final match to notch up its lone win in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023. India had lost 0-1 to Spain, 2-7 to Belgium and 2-3 to Germany.
Chhattisgarh CM Expands Cabinet, Inducts Nine Ministers
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expanded his state cabinet with the induction of nine new ministers. Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs Brijmohan Agrawal, Ramvichar Netam, Dayaldas Baghel, Kedar Kashyap, Lakhanlal Dewangan, Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, OP Choudhary, Tank Ram Verma and Laxmi Rajwade were administered oath by Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan.
This took the strength of the Sai-led cabinet to 12. Before this, the cabinet had three members – Chief Minister Sai and Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma.
Chhattisgarh can have a maximum of 13 ministers, including the CM.
Congress Constitutes Manifesto Committee for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections with P. Chidambaram as Chairman
Congress constituted manifesto committee for the upcoming 2024 general elections and appointed former UNION Minister, P. Chidambaram as the chairman. Former Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister T. S. Singh Deo was given the charge of Convenor of the committee.
The 16-member panel includes Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Former Union Ministers Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor are also part of the committee.

In 1986, the Consumer Protection Act was passed and received the assent of the President on December 24. Since then, National Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on this day to commemorate the occasion.
SASTRA Ramanujan Awards Presented Yunqing Tang and Ruixiang Zhang
The SASTRA-Ramanujan Awards for 2022 and 2023 were presented, respectively, to Yunqing Tang and Ruixiang Zhang, both mathematicians at the University of California in Berkeley, at the SASTRA campus in Kumbakonam.
The award, instituted by SASTRA in 2005, with a cash prize of USD 10,000 and a citation, is presented annually to individuals aged 32 and below, who have made outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics. The awards are presented on the birthday of Ramanujan.
IITs Lead the Way in Bachelor of Data Science Courses
When it comes to Bachelor of Data Science courses, IITs dominate the space. As per a edtech platform Imarticus Learning's Report 2023, IITs secured the top three positions among 100 colleges across India in the Bachelor of Data Science degree category.
Additionally, IIM Calcutta, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur and ISI Kolkata, secured the top position among 151 institutes in the Master's in Data Science category.
In the Bachelor's degree category, IITs lead the way with IIT Hyderabad taking the top rank, closely followed by IIT Delhi. Notably, IIT Guwahati is the third-best educational institute for the Bachelor's Data Science programme.
UNESCO Awards Spotlight Indian Heritage Conservation Efforts
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognised four Indian projects for their outstanding contributions to cultural heritage conservation in the Asia-Pacific region. This prestigious recognition reflects India's commitment to preserving its rich past for future generations.
The resilient urban revitalisation project of Rambagh Gate and Ramparts in Amritsar, Punjab, received the highest honour, the 'Award of Excellence'.
The Church of Epiphany in Haryana and Bikaner House in Delhi were bestowed with the 'Award of Merit' for their exemplary conservation efforts.
While India's achievements deserve applause, the UNESCO awards acknowledged twelve exemplary projects from across the Asia-Pacific region. Among these, three projects – the Fanling Golf Course in Hong Kong SAR, China; Dongguan Garden Residences in Yangzhou, China; and Karnikara Mandapam at Kunnamangalam Bhagawati Temple, Kerala, India – each received the 'Award of Distinction'.
The Indian Army wanted 75 per cent of personnel recruited under the new scheme - Agnipath - to be retained, former army chief Gen M. M. Naravane writes in his upcoming memoir - 'Four Stars of Destiny' to be launched in January 2024. Naravane, who served as Army Chief from December 2019 to April 2022, has in his new book shared insights about some of the key factors like service tenure, salary, and retention under the new scheme.
In his book, Naravane says the first year's starting salary for the new inductees was kept at just Rs. 20,000 per month (all-inclusive) and that was "not acceptable".
