Third World Hindu Congress Renounces 'Hinduism', Embraces 'Hindutva', 'Hindu Dharm'

  • RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat inaugurated the World Hindu Congress in Thailand's capital Bangkok, which brought together thinkers, activists and leaders to deliberate on issues and challenges faced by the Hindus across the globe and discuss ways to address them.
  • The World Hindu Congress renounced the word 'Hinduism', contending that the term reflected oppressive and discriminatory and embraced 'Hindutva' and 'Hindu Dharma' to refer to the 'eternal' religion.
  • The third World Hindu Congress (WHC) adopted a declaration asserting that the word Hindutva was more accurate as it includes the gamut of all that the word 'Hindu' implies.

India to Chair International Sugar Organisation

  • India is set to take the helm as the chairman of the International Sugar Organisation (ISO) in 2024, marking a significant milestone for the country. As the world's largest consumer and second-largest producer of sugar, this leadership role reflects India's growing influence in the global sugar sector. The announcement came during the 63rd council meeting of the ISO, headquartered in London.
  • The chairmanship for 2024 brings a unique opportunity for India to lead the global sugar sector towards more sustainable practices. The focus will be on uniting member countries to adopt environmentally friendly approaches in sugarcane cultivation, sugar and ethanol production, and the efficient utilisation of by-products.

  • A previously hidden water mass was identified in the middle of the Atlantic, offering a new perspective on ocean dynamics. The newly discovered Atlantic Equatorial Water forms along the equator as ocean currents merge distinct water bodies from the north and south.
  • The researchers spotted waters mixing along the equator in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Coca-Cola Joins ONDC, Launches Marketplace Coke Shop

  • Beverage giant Coca Cola India joined the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and also launched its own marketplace, the 'Coke Shop', on the platform.
  • The initial association with ONDC is being supported through SellerApp, which will help the company leverage the ONDC network with its data-driven insights, market intelligence, and strategies.
  • Through the 'Coke Shop' marketplace model, the company will enable retailers to sell their products to a wider audience on another channel, while facilitating multiple touch points for consumers to purchase from.

Kotak Mutual Fund Hires Harish Bihani as Fund Manager

  • Kotak Mahindra AMC announced the addition of Harish Bihani to its fund management team. Bihani was earlier with ICICI Prudential AMC, managing three funds with combined assets under management (AUM) of over Rs. 20,000 crore.
  • Two fund managers have left Kotak Mahindra AMC — Pankaj Tibrewal and Harish Krishnan. However, two more fund managers will soon join its team, said Kotak Mahindra AMC.

India and EU ink Semiconductor Agreement to Boost Supply Chain

  • India and the European Union (EU) marked a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on semiconductors. Bengaluru Hosts Namma Kambala

  • Kambala, the popular buffalo racing contest native to the coastal Karnataka region was held in Bengaluru. The traditional folk sport, usually held in the aftermath of the southwest monsoon, unfolded its excitement at the iconic Palace Grounds. Organised by Tulukoota Bengaluru, this is the first time Kambala found a venue in the heart of Bengaluru.
  • Kambala is a sport where buffaloes are driven through a slushy paddy field by a whip-wielding farmer.
  • In its traditional form, Kambala was non-competitive, with pairs running one by one. However, modern Kambala involves contests between two pairs of buffaloes.

Anish Bhanwala Wins 25m Rapid Fire Bronze at World Cup Final

  • Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men's 25 m Rapid Fire final at the ISSF World Cup final in Doha.
  • Bhanwala became the first Indian shooter to win a medal in the event in the World Cup Final. Earlier Vijay Kumar had reached the final in 2009, while Gurpreet Singh had reached the final in 2015.

India-Nepal Joint Military Exercise Begins in Uttarakhand

  • The 17th edition of joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' between India and Nepal started in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  • The annual exercise, which is conducted alternately in the two countries, will conclude on December 7, 2023.
  • The two-week-long exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief under the United Nations Charter on peace keeping operations.
  • The Nepal Army contingent comprises 334 personnel represented by Tara Dal Battalion, while the Indian Army contingent comprising 354 personnel is being led by a battalion from the Kumaon Regiment.

  • Every year, National Milk Day is celebrated on November 26.
  • National Milk Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the architect of India's White Revolution.
  • In 2014, The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the Indian Dairy Association (IDA), and 22 state-level milk federations decided to celebrate National Milk Day on the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien. Hence, the special day is celebrated on November 26 every year.

Constitution Day of India

  • Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day, is celebrated in India every year on November 26 to remember the day the Constitution of India was adopted. This event took place on November 26, 1949, and the Constitution officially came in action on January 26, 1950.
  • The Indian government declared November 26 as Constitution Day in 2015. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement on October 11, 2015, while inaugurating the B. R. Ambedkar's Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai.

Bihar to Launch 'Mission Daksh' for Nearly 25 Lakh Academically Weak School Children

  • The Bihar government will launch a programme, 'Mission Daksh', in December for nearly 25 lakh children lagging woefully behind their peers in schools with some of them incapable of reading simple Hindi words despite having reached upper primary classes.
  • As part of the programme, 'Mission Daksh', the state Education Department has directed teachers to intensively mentor such students, in batches of not more than five, with the warning that any laxity will cause them to face action.

IISc, Mercedes-Benz Sign Agreement for Advanced Research Collaboration (26)

  • Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for advanced research collaboration.
  • This industry-academia partnership is a significant step towards achieving Mercedes-Benz's Ambition 2039, which aims to make the entire fleet of new vehicles net carbon-neutral along the entire value chain and over the vehicles' entire life cycle by 2039.

Book, 'Mapping of the Archives in India'

  • A new book, 'Mapping of the Archives in India', aims to offer a near encyclopedic picture of active archives and their collections across the nation.
  • Written by Ramesh Chandra Gaur, director of Kalanidhi Division of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), and research scholar Vismay Basu, the book is the result of collaboration between IGNCA and UNESCO to create a directory of archives in India.
  • Through extensive literature surveys, the researchers identified 600 institutions across the country housing archives, resulting in the creation of 424 directories within the book.
  • These directories encompass comprehensive profiles of the contained archives, shedding light on aspects of conservation, digitisation, and archival perspectives.
