Joseph Boakai was declared as the winner of Liberia's presidential polls with 50.64 per cent of the vote, unseating President George Weah who got 49.36 per cent, the country's electoral commission announced after completing the ballot tally.
Weah will continue to remain in power until the power is handed over in January 2024.
Australia's ASX Signs Deal with TCS to Revamp Clearing, Settlement Platform
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) signed an agreement with Australia's primary securities exchange, ASX, to provide a clearing and settlement platform to serve that country's market.
TCS's flagship product, called BaNCS for Market Infrastructure, will be used to replace ASX's existing platform for cash equities clearing and settlement.
The new platform is proposed to be implemented in two releases. While the clearing service is expected to be delivered in the first phase, the settlement depository and sub-register services will follow in the second. This staged approach is expected to reduce overall delivery risk and help manage the impact on industry stakeholders.
The agreement with ASX strengthens TCS's footprint in Australia, one of its fastest-growing geographies, with a strong local partner network, expertise in cutting-edge technologies, investments in research and innovation, and deep domain knowledge of the banking financial services, and insurance sector.

Hate Speech: 28 States, UT Appointed Nodal Officers, Centre to SC
The central government informed the Supreme Court that 28 States and Union Territories have appointed nodal officers in compliance with its guidelines to prevent mob violence and lynching following hate speech incidents.
The Ministry of Home Affairs filed a status report on a batch of petitions seeking directions to prevent/curb hate speech.
Centre in its status report told the apex court that the States which informed that they have appointed nodal officers are -- Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

The launch of 'Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 10 (Yard 78)', the fourth Barge of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, built by MSME Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam for Indian Navy, was undertaken at Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh (launch site of M/s SEPPL). The contract for building 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge was signed between MoD and M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam in February 2021. The availability of these Barges would provide impetus to operational commitments of IN by facilitating Transportation, Embarkation and Disembarkation of articles/ ammunition to IN Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.
Indian Navy, DRDO Test Indigenously Developed Naval Anti-ship Missile
Attempting to boost self reliance or 'Aatmanirbharta', the Indian Navy, in association with Defence Research and Development Organissation (DRDO), successfully undertook guided flight trials of the first indigenously developed naval anti-ship missile from Sea King 42B helicopter.
Even in May 2022, India tested its first indigenously built anti-ship missile falling in the short-range category weighing around 380 kilograms with a range of 55 kilometres. Names as 'Naval Anti-ship Missile-short range' (NASM-SR), they can be launched from attack helicopters.

Deepti Babuta Becomes First Woman to Bag Dhahan Prize for Punjabi Literature
Mohali-based Deepti Babuta became the first woman to bag the Dhahan Prize, the largest international literary award for fiction books in Punjabi language.
Babuta received the award for her short story collection, 'Bhukh Eon Sah Laindi Hai' ('Hunger Breathes Like This'). She was presented with a cash award of $25,000 CAD and a trophy at a ceremony held at Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
Alongside her, two other finalists -- Lahore-based Jameel Ahmad Paul and Mohali's Balijit were awarded $10,000 CAD each.
This is for the first time in its 10-year history that the top prize has gone to a woman.

Supreme Court Issues Notice to Centre on Kerala, Tamil Nadu Governors Withholding Bills
The Supreme Court sought response from the Union of India on two petitions filed by the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, alleging that the Governors were delaying bills passed by the respective State Assemblies.
The state of Kerala had accused Governor Arif Mohammed Khan of sitting over eight Bills for two years, including three Ordinances, which were later converted to Bills and passed by Assembly.
The Bench further took up the writ petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government against Governor R. N. Ravi, alleging that he was delaying Bills passed by the State Legislature.

The Central government notified the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta as the Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court with immediate.
Justice Gupta assumed the post of Acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Justice Pritinker Diwaker.
Justice Gupta was born in 1964 and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council in 1987. He primarily practiced in civil, rent control, and Constitutional law.
Later, he was appointed an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court on April 12, 2013, and he was subsequently sworn in as a permanent judge on April 10, 2015.
Allahabad High Court Launches Project to Digitise Legacy Case Records
The Allahabad High Court launched a project to scan and digitise legacy case records in the district courts of Uttar Pradesh.
The initiative aims to progressively phase out old physical records, allowing online access to scanned and digitised case files through DMS Software. The ultimate objective is to achieve paperless courts and contribute to the Digital India initiative.
The initiative was successfully kick-started at the District Court in Prayagaraj, which has paved the way for its implementation for all courts in Uttar Pradesh.
