Rajeev Chandrasekhar to participate in 'AI Safety Summit' 2023 in UK
union Minister of State for Skill Development Rajeev Chandrasekhar participated in the "AI Safety Summit 2023" that is scheduled to be held in United Kingdom on November 1-2, 2023.
It will bring together Ministers and representatives from various countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, France among others.
Aim: To enhance the lives of its citizens while emphasizing the importance of effectively addressing user harm and mitigating risks.
India, Singapore strengthen bilateral defense ties
India and Singapore decided to further boost interaction between their armed forces as well as cooperation in military technologies and industries.
The two countries have also inked an implementing agreement on submarine rescue support between their navies.
India is fortunate to have a defence partner like Singapore.
The interaction will benefit both countries on many bilateral issues that are being pursued to further strengthen our special relationship.
FATF removes Cayman Islands from its 'grey list'
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recently removed several countries from its 'grey list', including the Cayman Islands , Panama, Jordan and Albania , while adding Bulgaria to the list .
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), is an inter-governmental body responsible for setting international standards to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing.
The FATF maintains a 'grey list', which includes jurisdictions that do not meet the organization's anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CFT), and proliferation financing standards. Countries placed on this list are monitored until identified deficiencies in their regulatory framework are resolved.
Nokia Partners with TATA Play Fiber to Launch India's First WiFi6
• Nokia has teamed up with broadband provider Tata Play Fiber to roll out India's first WiFi6-ready broadband network.
• As part of the deal, the Finnish gear maker will provide Tata Play Fiber with a variety of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and WiFi equipment, including optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network terminal (ONT) with WiFi6.
• The partnership with Nokia allows us to bring Wi-Fi6-ready network to our customers - which is a first in the category.
Fincare SFB to merge with AU Small Finance Bank
Fincare Small Finance Bank (Fincare SFB) is set to merge with AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB) from 1 February 2024.
As per the terms of the merger, the share exchange ratio for the amalgamation shall be 579 equity shares of face value of ₹10 each of AU SFB for every 2,000 equity shares of face value of ₹10 each of Fincare SFB.
Following the transaction, it is expected that existing shareholders of Fincare SFB will maintain approximately 9.9% ownership in AU SFB.
Fincare Small Finance Bank, a digitally enabled small finance bank, offers a broad range of deposit and asset solutions to its customers, with a total customer base of approximately 54 lakh.
It has 1,292 banking branches in 23 states and Union territories and is expected to have a total branch count of 2,334 by the completion of the merger.
The merged entity is expected to serve approximately 98 lakh customers and employ around 43,000 people by the end of September 2023, with a combined balance sheet size of more than Rs 1,1 lakh crores.
IIT Roorkee and THDC sign MoU for Collaborative Translational Research and Development

RBI appoints Manoranjan Mishra as Executive Director effective from Nov 1
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Manoranjan Mishra as Executive Director (ED) with effect from November 1, 2023.
As the ED he will be looking after the Enforcement Directorate, Risk Monitoring Department and Department of External Investments & Operations.
Before taking charge as the Executive Director, he was the Chief General Manager in the Department of Regulation of RBI. He has over three decades of experience in RBI after working across departments including regulations of banking and NBFC, supervision of banks and currency management. He has served as a member in several Working Groups at the national and international levels contributing to formulation of regulatory/ supervisory policies.
Justice Rajendra Menon re-appointed as Chairman of Armed Forces Tribunal
Justice Menon will serve as Chairman of the Tribunal till he attains the age of 70 years on June 6, 2027.
Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon has been re-appointed as Chairman of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) for four years.
The former judge was first recommended to the post in 2019 and served for four years.
Justice Menon was elevated as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002.
Zydus acquires UK's LiqMeds Grp for 68m
Homegrown pharma major Zydus Lifesciences Limited on Tuesday announced it has acquired UK-based LiqMeds Group of companies. The acquisition has been made through Zydus' wholly-owned subsidiary, Zydus Pharmaceuticals UK Limited, the company said in its stock exchange filing. LiqMeds has capabilities and specialisation in development, manufacturing and supply of oral liquid products for global markets, which it currently commercialises through its partners.

Jharkhand Cabinet has recently approved ' Abua Awas Yojna ' (Abua Awas Yojna – AAY), a housing scheme designed to provide eight lakh pucca houses to homeless persons in the state.
With a total budget of Rs 16,320 crore, the scheme will be implemented in three phases, with a target to build 2 lakh houses in the current financial year, 3.5 lakh houses in FY 2024-25 and 2.5 lakh houses in FY 2025-26 will be kept.
Despite the existence of several housing schemes in Jharkhand, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and Ambedkar Awas Yojana, these initiatives have been unable to cover all the eligible beneficiaries. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam had expressed concern that around 8 lakh eligible beneficiaries have been left out of the housing schemes due to discrepancies and errors in the identification process.

Tamil actor Junior Balaiah died at his residence in Chennai. Junior Balaiah had acted in over a hundred films including Karakatakkaran, Gopura Vasalile and Sundarakandam. In the 2010s, Balaiah made rare appearances in Tamil films and won acclaim for his portrayal of a headmaster in Saattai (2012). He died on Thursday morning due to asphyxiation. He was 70.
