Australia Names First Woman to Lead its Central Bank
Australia appointed the first female head of its central bank, passing over the current governor to elevate his deputy to the high-profile job amid a public backlash over steeply rising interest rates.
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Prime Minister Anthony named Michele Bullock as head the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) for the next seven years, having chosen not to reappoint Governor Philip Lowe for a second term.
Shubham Todkar clinched the 61 kg gold but he wasn't the best lifter in the category as compatriot Sidhanta Gogoi, competing in the junior competition, out-performed him at the Commonwealth Championships.
Shubham, who is in the Indian squad for the upcoming World Championships, heaved a total of 259 kg (115 kg+144 kg), while Sidhanta had a best effort of 260 kg (112 kg+148 kg) to be crowned the junior champion.
The senior, junior and youth events are being held simultaneously at the Gautam Buddha University, Uttar Pradesh.
Asian Games 2023: Gymnast Dipa Karmakar Makes Cut
Star India gymnast Dipa Karmakar sealed her place in the Asian Games squad after topping the selection trials at the Kalinga Stadium, in Bhubaneswar. The Tripura gymnast, who narrowly missed out on a bronze in 2016 Rio Olympics, made a comeback after 21 months of suspension due to a doping violation. Dipa scored 47.05 to emerge on top in the all-around event during the trials.
Pranati Das and Pranati Nayak scored 45.80 and 44.43 to finish second and third in the trials.
In men's Senior Individual category, Yogeshwar Singh (76.30) from Haryana, Odisha's Rakesh Patra (76.20) and Tapan Mohanty (74.60) bagged the top three spots.
Anurag Singh Thakur Unveils Trophy of 'Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023'
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur unveiled the trophy of 'Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023' for men's Hockey at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi. On the occasion, he also launched the 'Pass the Ball Trophy Tour' Campaign in the presence of prominent hockey players of the country.
India has won the Asian Trophy three times so far.
Travelling from Delhi, the trophy will reach Chennai in Tamil Nadu on the 20th of July. The hockey tournament will begin on the 3rd of August and continue till the 12th of August. Six countries including India, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, and China will vie for the title.
The ministry of information technology and communications announced that the seventh edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC), co-hosted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) will be held from October 27 to 29, 2023 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
The event will be themed around 'Global Digital Innovation' and will showcase 6G, advancements in 5G networks, the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in telecommunications, edge computing, and developments related to India Stack.
IMC 2023 would also highlight related technology domains such as broadcast technology, satellite communication, manufacture of semiconductors. IMC 2023 will introduce several B2G and B2B forums and industry round tables, events to facilitate student engagement, and global buyer forums.
Harshvardhan Bansal New President of NAREDCO Delhi Chapter
The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) announced establishment of its Delhi chapter. Harshvardhan Bansal, Director of Unity Group, was appointed as the president of the NAREDCO Delhi Chapter. NAREDCO is a leading national organization that represents the real estate sector, it works under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) has also appointed P. K. Gupta, the current CMD of NBCC, as the Chairman, while Vineet Kanwar, the Group Executive Director of DLF, was designated as the Vice Chairman. Additionally, Gaurav Jain, the CEO of India Infracorp Bahrain, was selected as the President Elect. The objective of NAREDCO Delhi chapter is to establish a favourable atmosphere in the real estate sector.
At present, NAREDCO has established state chapters in Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Rajasthan. Following the prosperous launch of the Delhi chapter, NAREDCO is actively engaged in the process of establishing a chapter in Uttarakhand.
India to Host ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines (16)
India will serve as the host for the ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines on July 20, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. A total of 75 participants will convene at this one-day conference which will include international delegates from eight ASEAN countries, with an additional two international delegates participating virtually. The purpose of the conference is to facilitate brainstorming sessions and idea sharing on the topic of Traditional Medicines.
With support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Mission to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat, the Ministry of Ayush is prepared to host the Conference.
The objective of this conference is to enhance collaboration between India and ASEAN countries by sharing best practices and establishing a roadmap for future cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines. It will also provide a platform to exchange information on the recent developments in the regulatory framework for promoting Traditional Medicine in ASEAN member states.
Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission Bags SKOCH Award
The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) bagged the SKOCH Award under the theme 'State of Governance India 2047' in Gold category for its outstanding efforts in creating marketing avenues for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the Union Territory. The SKOCH award marked a significant milestone for JKRLM, being the first award received since the inception of the scheme. This recognition represents a remarkable accomplishment for the organization.
The award is a recognition for the JKRLM to the hard work and dedication of the JKRLM team, especially its Mission Director, who was instrumental in driving the Mission's major goal of creating marketing opportunities from district-level avenues to national-level platforms. Book 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow' Released
National award-winning filmmaker-writer Vinod Mankara's new book was released from the rocket launchpad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The unique launch of 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow', a collection of science articles, was held at the SDSC-SHAR, as preparations were going on full swing there for the country's much-awaited Moon mission Chandrayaan-3.
ISRO Chairman S. Somanath released the book by handing it over to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) Director S. Unnikrishnan Nair. SDSC-SHAR Director A. Rajarajan, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) director V. Narayanan, former ISRO Director K. Radhakrishnan, and many other space scientists were present besides Lipi Publications Managing Director Lipi Akbar, the publisher of the book, during the function.
Published by Kozhikode-based Lipi Books, 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow' is a compilation of 50 interesting articles from various streams of science including space science, astronomy, biology, anthropology and mathematics. It covers various topics such as the James Webb space telescope, dark sky tourism, black hole confirmation, the dog Laika's first space journey and so on.
TAFI Chapters Conclude AGM & Elections, National Team Signs MoU with Kazakh Tourism
Multiple Chapters of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) concluded their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election process and chose office bearers and members for the new term 2023-25.
In another development, the national leadership of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kazakh Tourism in Astana to promote tourism between both countries.
Jay Kantawala from WIYO Travel was elected as the new Chapter Chairman, while Arun Iyer from Maa Air Ticket Centre was elected as the Secretary. Dharmesh Shah from Dadyson Travels and Satbir Singh Narula from Pyramid Tours & Allied Services were elected as Treasurer and Committee Member, respectively.
NGT Can't Pass Order Solely on Expert Panel Report: SC
Noting that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) can't pass directions based on expert committee reports and recommendations without hearing objections from parties, the Supreme Court said that the tribunal must follow the principles of natural justice.
If the NGT intends to rely upon an expert committee report, it should disclose in advance to the party so as to give an opportunity for discussion and rebuttal. A reasonable opportunity must be afforded to present their observations on such a report. It is needless to observe that the experts' opinion is only by way of assistance in arriving at a final conclusion.
Alexander Thomas Is Acting Chief Justice of Kerala HC
Justice Alexander Thomas, the senior-most judge of the Kerala High Court was appointed acting Chief Justice following the elevation of S. V. N. Bhatti as Supreme Court judge. He was appointed as additional judge on January 23, 2014 and made a permanent judge with effect from March 10, 2016. Before being appointed as a judge, he had served as Senior Government Pleader, Standing Counsel for Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Railway Ministry, and the Kerala Public Service Commission.
