Pakistan Gets Saudi's Approval for USD 2 Billion Funding to Secure IMF Bailout
Cash-strapped Pakistan received the nod for funding of up to USD 2 billion from Saudi Arabia, a move that will help the country secure the much-required bailout from the IMF.
The International Monetary Fund had imposed the condition on Pakistan that it should secure USD 3 billion from other countries for the revival of its USD 6.5 billion bailout package.
The assistance from Riyadh came at a crucial time as the IMF programme, signed in 2019, will expire on June 30, 2023, and under the set guidelines, the programme cannot be extended beyond the deadline.

Out of the total 1.2 million votes received in this poll, the Bollywood superstar received 4 percent of it (nearly 50,000) votes, to emerge as the winner beating personalities like Prince Harry, Meghan Markel and Lionel Messi.

MCL Beats Chhattisgarh-based SECL in Coal Production
Chhattisgarh-based South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) remained a runner-up in terms of coal production among eight entities of the state-run Coal India (CIL) in the financial year 2022-23.
With 193.3 million tonnes (mt) of output in FY23, neighbouring Odisha-based Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) continued to be the largest coal-producing company in the country for a second successive financial year.
The SECL was holding the top position till FY21. Its output, however, dropped to 142.5 mt in FY22.
The SECL and MCL had set a target to produce 182 mt and 173 mt of coal, respectively, in FY23. Despite its production growing by over 17 per cent, the SECL could record an output of 167 mt in 2022-23.

Odisha received investment intent of Rs. 26,000 crore in various sectors as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met Japanese industrialists in Tokyo.
The investment intent was received in sectors such as logistics, steel, Green Hydrogen, and IT/ITeS.
An MoU for collaboration in the skill development sector was also signed between Nihon-Utkal and IIIT, Bhubaneswar.
The business meeting was attended by representatives of more than 200 leading companies in Japan and the Indo-Pacific region.
Citi Launches its Branch in GIFT IFSC
Citi launched its branch at Gujarat international Financial Tec-City — International Financial Services Center (GIFT-IFSC).This branch will offer corporate clients long- and short-term financing solutions through the IFSC branch, while providing an international financial banking experience within the India Standard Time (IST) zone.
The branch will offer external commercial borrowings and trade loans, addressing foreign currency funding requirements of multinationals, large local corporates and financial institutions, as well as emerging mid-corporates.
NASA's James Webb Telescope Spots Four Most Distant Galaxies ever Observed
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) found the four most distant galaxies ever seen, one of which formed only 320 million years after the Big Bang, when the cosmos was still in its infancy.
The galaxies date from 300 to 500 million years after the Big Bang, more than 13 billion years ago, when the universe was just two percent of its current age.
That means the galaxies are from what is called "the epoch of reionization," a period when the first stars are believed to have emerged. The epoch came directly after the cosmic dark ages brought about by the Big Bang.
Aleksander Ceferin Re-elected UEFA President Unopposed Until 2027
Aleksander Ceferin was re-elected unopposed as Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president at the Ordinary Congress of European Soccer's governing body in Lisbon. The Slovenian has been re-elected to a four-year term that will last until 2027.
Ceferin was elected as UEFA's seventh president in 2016 to replace Michel Platini, who was barred from football administration in 2015 for ethics violations and was forced to resign from UEFA in 2016 after losing an appeal against his ban.
Deo Takes over as NRAI Chief
In an expected move, Kalikesh Singh Deo took over the reins of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). The NRAI Governing Body unanimously approved the handover to Deo.
Deo was the senior vice-president before taking over from Raninder Singh, who went on a long leave after the Sports Ministry demanded an election for the top post.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was founded in 1951 with a view to promote and popularize the shooting sports in India. The first speaker of Lok Sabha, G.V. Mavlankar was the founder and the first president of NRAI followed by. Govind Vallabh Pant, Lal Bahadur Shastri,. Y. B. Chauhan, G.S. Dhillon and. Joginder Singh. Raninder Singh has served as president since December 2010.
The NRAI is affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association and the International Shooting Sport Federation as well as the Asian Shooting Confederation and other international bodies.

Anil Antony, the son of Congress leader and former Union Minister AK Antony, joined the BJP.
Anil Antony, who was a Congress leader from Kerala, quit the party in January following the row over BBC's documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP leaders Piyush Goyal and V. Murlidharan and the party's Kerala unit chief K. Surendran welcomed the former Congress leader to their party at a formal event.
Anil Antony ran the Congress's social media cell in Kerala before he left the party.
South Korean Foreign Minister Visits India
South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin took a two-day visit to India with an aim to make "substantive progress" in the special strategic partnership between the two countries.
Jin held wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and also called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Notably, India and South Korea have completed 50 years of diplomatic ties.
Centre Declares Tripura Best State in NE for E-procurement
Tripura was given the best state award in the north-eastern region by the Centre for successful implementation of e-procurement.
To maintain transparency, the state has made it mandatory to go for e-procurement if the value of any government purchase or contract goes beyond Rs. 25,000.

Karnataka High Court Directs Election Commission of India to Decide on AAP Plea Seeking National Party Status
The Karnataka High Court instructed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide the representation by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking the status of 'national party' on or before April 13.
The directions were passed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna after AAP moved to the High Court stating that it was not getting the due reply by ECI on its representation seeking national party status.
At present, AAP has government in Delhi and Punjab along with securing about 6% vote share in Goa and Gujarat assembly elections.
As per Section 6(b) of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Orders of 1968, any party with over 6% vote share in more than four states should be declared a national party.
