Quad Nations Launch Public Campaign to Enhance Cyber Security
The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad comprising India, United States, Japan and Australia launched a public campaign 'Quad Cyber Challenge' to improve cyber security across their nations.
The Quad invited Internet users across the Indo-Pacific and beyond to become part of the challenge and practice "safe and responsible cyber habits.
The 'Quad Cyber Challenge' shows the continuous efforts of Quad nations to bolster cyber security awareness and action and to foster a more secure and resilient cyber ecosystem to benefit economies and users.
India Highest Attacked Country by Hackers in Asia, 2nd Globally in 2022
As per a report, India was the highest attacked country by hackers in Asia and the second-most attacked country globally (after the US) in 2022.
The number of cyber attacks on India increased by 24.3 per cent last year.
Asia-Pacific remained the most targeted region globally, receiving 20.4 per cent of all attacks in 2021 and 24.1 per cent of all attacks in 2022.
The year 2022 observed an increase in cybercrime with a surge in sophisticated and targeted cyber attacks. This can be attributed to an increase in underground activity leading to a rise in utility of malicious tools and malware.
New British Stamp with Image of King Charles III Unveiled
Britain's Royal Mail unveiled the first postage stamps to feature the image of King Charles III, following his ascension to the throne last September.
The new so-called "definitive stamp", intended for everyday use and consisting solely of the monarch's head, the stamp's value and a barcode, will go on general sale from April 4.
The image, which was approved by Charles himself, is adapted from the official effigy that appears on new UK coins after he succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Odisha Reports 578 Forest Fires over the Last Week, the Highest in the Country
Odisha reported 578 incidents of fire in Odisha's forests over the week between February 1 and February 8, 2023, the highest in the country, according to the Forest Survey of India's (FSI) fire alerts system based on Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP). Another 541 fires were reported from Madhya Pradesh and 463 in Karnataka.
"The incidents of wildfires in the state are increasing at an alarming rate. If we experience a long dry spell, it may increase to over a thousand cases by April," said Odisha's principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Debidutta Biswal.

Aditya Birla Group announced its foray into the premium casual dining space that will see the conglomerate open restaurants in collaboration with chef-restaurateur Rahul Akerkar.
The group's foray into the food services market will be housed under Aditya Birla New Age (ABNA) that will build more premium casual dining restaurants across India.
ABNA, promoted by Aryaman Vikram Birla, son of Kumar Mangalam Birla, aspires to create the most preferred house of food and beverages brands in India.
Chef Akerkar founded Mumbai's now shut Qualia, a fine-dine restaurant. He has joined ABNA's wholly owned subsidiary as a creative director and director, cuisine and will be responsible for the restaurant's concept and the culinary vision.

PhonePe Becomes First Indian Fintech to Allow UPI Payments Abroad
PhonePe launched a service that will allow the fintech firm's Indian users travelling abroad to pay foreign merchants using Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
'UPI international' supports merchant outlets in UAE, Singapore, Nepal and Bhutan that have a local QR (quick response) code. Users will be able to make direct payments in a foreign currency from their Indian bank, like they do with international debit cards. Walmart-backed PhonePe said that it is the first Indian fintech app to launch the service.

Drone delivery company Skye Air Mobility came out with an unmanned air traffic management system that will provide situational awareness, autonomous navigation and risk assessment to all drone and other aerial mobility operators.
The system 'Skye UTM' was unveiled by Union Minister for Road and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
Skye UTM captures more than 255+ parameters of UAV movements and stores them into its 'Blackbox', which is a published systematic description of the entire flight.

IT major Tech Mahindra signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia to set up a data, AI, and cloud centre of excellence (CoE) in Riyadh.
The CoE will combine academic and socio-economic goals to build national Hi-tech talent capacity, create high-quality jobs, promote digital innovation, and upscale small & medium enterprises.

Pakistan Wicketkeeper-Batter Kamran Akmal Retires from All Forms of Cricket
Veteran Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Prior to the 2023 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Akmal was earlier named as the batting consultant for the Peshawar Zalmi, led by Babar Azam, for the upcoming edition of the PSL. Akmal is keener on taking up managerial roles with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Akmal made his debut for Pakistan back in 2002 and went on to play until 2017. In 53 Tests, 157 ODIs and 58 T20Is, the right-handed batter scored 2648, 3236 and 987 runs respectively, with the help of 11 hundreds and 27 fifties. He last donned the national colours in an ODI against the West Indies back in April 2017 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Second ICC WTC Final to be Played from June 7-11 at The Oval, England
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship Final will be played between June 7-11, 2023 at the Oval in London, England.
The Oval has hosted over 100 Test matches in its rich history, and in June will welcome the top two Test sides in the ICC World Test Championship standings, which will compete for the ICC World Test Championship Mace following two years of hard-fought competition.
The ICC World Test Championship final is the pinnacle event in the Test calendar and is a week-long celebration of the longest format of the game. Termed as the "Ultimate Test" by the ICC, the final is the culmination of two years of intense competition in the cycle spanning 61 Test matches over 24 series played till date.

Centre Sets up Committee to Prepare Draft Digital Competition Law
The Centre ordered setting up a committee that will review whether existing antitrust laws in the country are equipped to deal with the challenges that have emerged from the digital economy, and submit to the government a draft Digital Competition Act within three months.
The move came amid increased regulatory antitrust-related scrutiny over big tech companies like Google, which last year was fined by the Competition Commission of India in two separate instances for allegedly abusing its market dominance in the Android mobile device ecosystem, and the app store market.
The committee will be headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), and will include eight other members including the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India. The joint secretary for competition at the MCA will join the committee as a member secretary.
DGGI, NFSU Sign MoU for Setting up Digital Forensic Laboratories
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up digital forensic laboratories along with the exchange of information and knowledge, technological advancement and skill development in the field of digital forensics.
DGGI is the apex intelligence organization, under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), for the collection and dissemination of information and for taking necessary measures to check evasion of GST.
NFSU is an institution of national importance established to promote studies and research in forensic sciences and related fields.
It is the first and only institute in the field of forensic sciences. It has state-of-the-art technology in digital forensics and capabilities to study and analyze digital evidence.
The MoU will be a force multiplier for the DGGI in the field of investigation and digital forensics and will assist the agency in launching effective prosecutions and securing convictions of the guilty.
PPAC Signs Statement of Intent (SOI) with IEA
Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with International Energy Agency (IEA) to strengthen cooperation in the field of data and research and enhance global energy security, stability, and sustainability.
The SoI was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep S. Puri on the sidelines of India Energy Week 2023.
The Statement of Intent will initiate the cooperation in the energy sector between PPAC and IEA with various areas of cooperation as specified. Further, the comprehensive datasets, reports, analysis will be made available for better analysis and interpretation.
Pakistan Navy to Host 50 Nations in Maritime Exercises
Pakistan's navy said that it will host 50 countries at maritime exercises involving ships, aircraft and special operation forces from Feb. 10-14.
Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami commented on the importance of the exercises in light of piracy, terrorism, narcotics and arms trafficking, and climate change.
As per reports, only seven countries of the 110 nations invited have bothered to send ships or submarines.

An undergraduate student needs to take a basket of courses to fulfil the requirement of minoring in the stream. SC Collegium Recommends Appointment of Justice Sabina as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court
The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud recommended the appointment of the Chief Justices of the High Courts of Patna, Himachal Pradesh, Gauhati and Tripura.
The three-member collegium recommended the name of Justice K. Vinod Chandran of the Kerala High Court for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Justice Sabina as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The collegium recommended the name of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
It recommended the appointment of Justice Sandeep Mehta as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
