Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese selected his home-town Sidney for hosting the QUAD summit mid-2023 even as Japan expressed serious concerns this week to China and Russia over joint air patrols over Sea of Japan and scrambled fighters in response.
While the dates of the QUAD summit are still to be worked out, US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will travel to Sydney to further cement cooperation and push back the Chinese belligerence in Indo-Pacific and aggressive behavior against all four democratic countries. But before that India will be hosting the QUAD foreign ministers' meet in New Delhi as dates are being worked out.
India to Assume Chairmanship of Wassenaar Arrangement on January 1, 2023
India will assume chairmanship of the plenary of the Wassenaar Arrangement for a year on January 1, 2023, just five years after joining the 42-member voluntary export control regime that monitors transfers of conventional weapons and dual-use goods.
At the 26th annual plenary of the Wassenaar Arrangement held in Vienna, Ireland's ambassador Eoin O'Leary handed over the chairmanship to India's ambassador Jaideep Mazumdar, who is the permanent representative to the UN and international organisations in Vienna.
India joined the Wassenaar Arrangement in December 2017 as its 42nd participating state. The body is a multilateral export control regime that works to promote transparency and greater responsibility in transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies through regular exchanges of information among its members.
BCG Carves Out a New Unit for its Digital Transformation Capabilities
Management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG) announced the launch of BCG X – "a hybrid tech, build, and design unit" for accelerated digital transformation, tech and business innovation, Artificial Intelligence, and advanced analytics.
As per the global consulting major, the new unit will bring together nearly 3,000 technologists, builders, and designers. The unit will offer solutions for AI, software, design, digital growth, deep tech, and green tech.
SJVN, Grid Corporation of Odisha to Form JV for Hydro, Solar Projects
State-run SJVN Ltd said that its arm SJVN Green Energy and Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) will form a joint venture to develop a 1,000 MW hydro electric project and 2,000 MW solar project entailing an investment of Rs. 20,000 crore.
The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Bhubaneswar for developing hydro and solar projects by incorporating a joint venture company.
This MOU paved a way for formation of Joint Venture between SGEL and GRIDCO for generating green power, new direct & indirect employment opportunities, boost to local businesses, carbon emission reduction, sustainable and overall development of the state.
Serum Institute, Byju's Top Burgundy-Hurun Unlisted Companies List
Serum Institute of India and edtech firm Byju's topped the list of India's most valuable unlisted companies, according to the 2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 study.
The Pune-based vaccine producer's value increased 20 per cent to Rs. 2.2 trillion in the past one year. Byju's market value grew 35 per cent to Rs. 1.82 trillion, replacing the country's top bourse, National Stock Exchange (NSE), as the second-most valuable company on the list. NSE saw its market value erode 17 per cent to Rs. 1.39 trillion. Among the top 10 unlisted companies, Swiggy, Parle Products, Razorpay, and Ola saw their market value double.
To arrive at the value of unlisted companies, Hurun Research's uses metrics such as price to earnings, Price to Sales, EV to sales, EV to EBITDA of comparable listed companies.
Dwayne Bravo Retires from IPL, Appointed CSK Bowling Coach for 2023 Edition
Chennai Super Kings appointed Dwayne Bravo as the team's bowling coach ahead of IPL 2023. Bravo called time on his playing days in the IPL, having played the tournament since the inaugural edition in 2008. L. Balaji has taken a break for one year due to personal commitments, but will be available for the Super Kings Academy.
Bravo has 183 wickets from 161 matches. The all-rounder has also scored 1560 runs at a strike rate of around 130, playing key parts in many victories for the Super Kings. He was an integral part of CSK's IPL title wins in 2011, 2018 and 2021 and the Champions League T20 victory in 2014. He was also the first player to win the Purple Cap for most wickets in an IPL season twice (2013 and 2015).
Bravo has overall played 144 matches for Chennai Super Kings, picking up 168 wickets and scoring 1556 runs.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Sunil Jakhar as well as its former Uttar Pradesh president Swatantra Dev Singh as members of its national executive.
It also appointed former Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill its national spokesperson.

Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 every year to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy to the country. December 4 was chosen as on that day in 1971, during Operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank four Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel. On this day, those killed in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 are also remembered.

Kerala Green Start-up Tree Tag Bags Award in 2022 Climathon
A green start-up by climate-conscious individuals from Kerala, striving to reduce carbon emissions through tech-integrated afforestation projects, emerged first in the Climathon-2022.
Tree Tag, the start-up, received Rs. five lakh as prize money in the hackathon which was held in Kerala Technology Innovation Zone (KTIZ), Kochi. They won the award under the category of Life on Land, addressing the problem statement such as 'monitoring and protecting existing forest eco-systems'.
The team Tree Tag included Abhijith Kumar Meenakumari , CEO, Aashuthosh B. Sai - Chief Technology Officer, Mohamed Wazeer - Chief Operating Officer, Anoop Babu - Chief Strategy Officer.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath Launches 'One District One Sport' Scheme
In his mission to promote sports and sportspersons of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched One District One Sport (ODOS) on the lines of the highly successful One District One Product (ODOP) scheme of the government.
The scheme serves the two interrelated objectives of the government, including promoting sports culture and keeping the younger generation healthy in the state and providing a platform for sportspersons to nurture their talents and skills in order to take part in prestigious national and international championships and win medals.
Under ODOS, one sport will be identified in each of the 75 districts of UP and necessary steps taken to find district-wise sport-specific talents and hone their skills in order to enable them to represent the district, state, national and international level tournaments and championships.
Assam to Give Stipend to all Female PG Students of Rs. 10,000 Each
Assam government will soon introduce a scheme under which all female students pursuing post-graduate courses in the state will be provided a yearly stipend of Rs. 10,000 each.
This would be helpful in covering their commutation and other related expenses.
The Chief Minister appealed to the female students pursuing PG courses to apply for getting the stipend in the portal to be launched by the Department of Education for the purpose in a few weeks from now.
Ministers of India and Bangladesh Inaugurate Sylhet Festiva
Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North-eastern Region G. Kishan Reddy and Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen inaugurate the Sylhet Festival 2022 at Silchar in the Barak Valley of Assam.
State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mizoram Governor K. Hari Babu and Assam Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprises and Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora are also expected to be attending the 5-day festival which is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture and India Foundation. Around 100 dignitaries from Bangladesh will also join the programme. The program is being organised in the context of the historical relationship between Sylhet and Barak Valley of south Assam.
Been a Witness and Victim of Adjournment Culture in Patna High Court: Justice M.R. Shah
Justice M.R. Shah, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, has said that the Patna High Court has a very bad culture of adjourning cases, adding that he has been both a victim and a witness of it.
Justice Shah, prior to his elevation as the judge of the Supreme Court, had served as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
It was during that time as the CJ of Patna High Court that he had experienced the adjournment culture first hand.
Justice Shah said that the culture of adjournment was very much prevalent in Patna.
Talking about the Patna High Court, the judge said that when the lawyers keep asking for adjournment, what will the poor Judges do.
The top court has time and again taken a poor view of unnecessary adjournments.
The Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli have recently spoken on how the practice of adjournments is being sought by lawyers who come to court without preparing to argue the case.
