Benjamin Netanyahu Makes a Comeback

  • Israel's caretaker Prime Minster Yair Lapid congratulated his rival Benjamin Netanyahu on his "victory", conceding defeat two days after the country went to the polls. Lapid's concession sets the former premier up to form what may be the most right-wing government in Israeli history.
  • With up to 99 percent of ballots counted, according to the Central Elections Committee, the results put the veteran hawk's right-wing bloc solidly ahead in the country's fifth election in four years.
  • Lapid updated opposition leader Netanyahu that he has instructed his entire office to prepare an organised transition of power.
  • Mr. Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party won 32 seats and his right-wing religious and nationalist bloc in total won 64 in the 120-seat parliament, or Knesset, according to Israel's Central Elections Committee.

Maharashtra Appoints Liquidator to Wind up Rupee Cooperative Bank

  • The Maharashtra registrar of co-operative societies (RCS) appointed D. Doiphode as liquidator to wind up the crisis-laden Rupee Co-operative Bank. The liquidator will focus on recoveries and repayment to depositors of up to Rs. 300 crore.
  • The appellate authority (in the finance ministry) has dismissed the appeal filed by Pune-based Rupee Co-operative Bank against the order, cancelling the banking licence in August 2022.

Indian Exim Bank Inks Pact with Southern Africa's Leading Bank to Boost India-Africa Trade

  • Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank) concluded a Master Risk Participation Agreement for supporting trade transactions with FirstRand Bank (FRB) Limited. The agreement was signed in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the India – Southern Africa Regional Conclave.
  • Africa has positioned itself as a key partner in the global arena, a global investment and trading hub, a US$ 2.2 trillion market and a population base of over 1 billion, Africa offers a great market potential.
  • With the largest arable landmass in the world, housing 30% of global minerals reserves, and 8% of the world's oil reserves, the continent offers promising long-term sustainable growth prospects which would be further enhanced by deeper integration of Africa into the global economy.
  • FirstRand Limited, is a financial services provider in South Africa. It is one of the financial services providers licensed by the Reserve Bank of South Africa, the national banking regulator.

Wipro Appoints Amit Choudhary as Chief Operating Officer

  • Technology services and consulting company Wipro Limited announced the appointment of Amit Choudhary as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and member of the Wipro Executive Board.
  • Choudhary will manage Global Business Operations, Delivery Excellence, CIO, CISO, and Enterprise Risk Management functions. He joined Wipro from Capgemini, where he was the Chief Operating Officer for the Financial Services Business Unit, as well as a member of their Executive Committee.
  • The former COO Bhanumurthy Ballapuram left the firm in July 2021 to join Google Cloud as vice president of the Japan and Asia Pacific region.

Praggnanandhaa, Nandhidhaa Cap Stellar Run by Winning Titles

  • Top-seeded Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa and compatriot P.V. Nandhidhaa won the titles in the open and women's sections, respectively, at the Asian Continental Chess Championship.
  • Praggnanandhaa drew with compatriot B. Adhiban in a 63-move game in the ninth and final round to emerge victorious with seven points.
  • The triumph also earned Praggnanandhaa a ticket to the next FIDE World Cup.
  • In the women's event, Nandhidhaa drew her ninth-round match against Divya Deshmukh to finish with 7.5 points. The 26-year old remained unbeaten throughout and won six games.

Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy: HP Beat Punjab in Semis, Enter Finals

  • Himachal Pradesh stormed into the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 defeating Punjab by 13 runs in the first semi-finals of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Led by Rishi Dhawan, who bagged three wickets, Himachal Pradesh continued their dream run in white-ball cricket. It may be recalled they are Vijay Hazare Trophy defending champions.

Meghalaya CM Launches "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme"

  • The "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme" was launched by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma at Tura, West Garo Hills district, in Meghalaya. The Meghalaya Government initiated various welfare programs and the information should be disseminated for the larger benefit of the public.
  • The "Citizen Engagement and Communication Programme" program aims at grassroots penetration of all schemes so that governance is improved in all aspects. The program will create much-needed awareness amongst the masses so that people will have the right information to avail benefits of the schemes being launched by the Government. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma encouraged the team to sensitize themselves so that they can in turn sensitize the public regarding all the available schemes.

Gujarat Election Dates

  • The Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5, and the results will be declared on December 8, the Election Commission announced. Of the 182 seats in the legislative Assembly, 89 will go to polls in the first phase and 93 in the second. There are over 4.9 crore electors eligible to vote this year. There will be more than 51,000 polling stations set up, including more than 34,000 in rural areas.
  • The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18, 2023. With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect in the state. The Centre has deployed 160 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces ahead of the polls.
  • The much awaited, high-stakes elections are seeing a three-cornered contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP has been in power in the state — Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home turf — for over two decades. In the last election in 2017, the BJP won 99 seats, while the Congress won 77.

In a First, CRPF Appoints 2 Women Cadre Officers as IG of RAF, Bihar Sector

  • In a first, the CRPF appointed two women officers from its cadre as Inspectors General (IG) of its specialised anti-riots unit RAF and the Bihar Sector.
  • Annie Abraham was appointed as the IG of the blue duangree donning Rapid Action Force (RAF) while Seema Dhundia was posted as the IG of the Bihar Sector.
  • This is the first time that the RAF will be headed by a woman IG. An IG is the head of the sector in the CRPF.
  • Both officers joined the paramilitary force in 1987 as the first batch of women officers. They have also commanded an all-women Indian police contingent at the UN.
  • They have been decorated with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the 'Ati Utkrisht Sewa Padak' during their service.

MP Govt. Launches Ladli Laxmi 2.0 Financial Assistance Scheme for Girls

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the state government's flagship 'Ladli Laxmi 2.0' financial assistance scheme to encourage girls to pursue higher education and make them independent. Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the 'Ladli Laxmi' scheme in 2007 after he became the Chief Minister for the first time in 2005.
  • The scheme provides monetary benefits to eligible girl children to ensure they get a good education and change the perspective of society towards the birth of the girl's child.

Education Ministry Releases Report on Performance Grading Index for States

  • Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh have emerged as the best performers in school education across indicators such as learning outcomes, equity and infrastructure in the 2020-21 Performing Grade Index (PGI) of the Ministry of School Education.
  • These six states and the UT of Chandigarh were placed at level-II of the index, which was launched by the Centre in 2017-18.
  • The index measures the performances of states and UTs on a uniform scale and helps them in prioritising areas for intervention. Since its launch, no state or UT has attained level-I.
  • The prime objective of PGI is to promote evidence-based policymaking and highlight course correction to ensure quality education for all.
  • The index is drawn up based on 70 indicators covering the areas of learning outcomes, access, infrastructure and facilities, equity, and governance process.

"Permacrisis" is Collins Dictionary's Word of the Year

  • Permacrisis was chosen as the Collins Dictionary's word of the year. The word means an extended period of instability and insecurity. "Permacrisis sums up just how truly awful 2022 has been for so many people," Alex Beecroft, head of Collins Learning told.
  • Permacrisis' is a word that describes living in an age of continued upheaval; Collins defines the noun as 'an extended period of instability and insecurity.
  • It is the top word in the annual compilation of the 10 new or noteworthy words from the 18-billion word database monitored by Collins and from other sources like social media. Permacrisis is also one of six new words on the list added to CollinsDictionary.com.
  • Notably: Permacrisis beat off competition from the likes of "Kyiv", "sportswashing" and "partygate", the term "permacrisis" was named as Britain's word of the year in recognition of a dismal 2022.

National Tribal Dance Festival Begins in Raipur, Chhattisgarh

  • Chhattisgarh celebrates its 23rd State Foundation Day on 1st November 2022 and as a part of the celebrations, Raipur hosted the 3rd National Tribal Dance Festival. On behalf of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Cheif Ministers and officials of other states were invited for the National Tribal Dance Festival.
  • In the National Tribal Dance Festival, tribal dance groups from all states and union territories of India took part.
  • The highlights of the National Tribal Dance Festival were the other countries including Mongolia, Tongo, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, and Mozambique participating in the event.
  • About 1500 tribal artists took part in the event of which 1400 were from India and 100 from other countries.
  • The festival had several competitions in two categories and prizes worth Rs. 20 lakh given to the winners.
  • The award included cash prizes of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh to the first, second, and third winners, respectively.
