European Parliament: Hungary no Longer a Full Democracy
The European Parliament adopted a report that declared Hungary to be no longer a democracy.
The European Parliament had adopted a parliamentary report that declared Hungary to be "a hybrid regime of electoral autocracy".
It concluded that the European values are currently under threat in Hungary and thus, it is no longer a democratic country.
The recent motion at the European Parliament is symbolic disapproval from the EU towards Hungary that has witnessed years of opprobrium over the rule-of-law issues under the regime of the current populist Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
However, this adoption may not lead to any specific punishment targeting Hungary.
Joao Lourenco Re-elected as President of Angola
The National Electoral Commission announced Joao Lourenco as the President with 51% of the votes. President Joao Lourenco is a member of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), and he was re-elected as the President of Angola. The election results extended the hegemony of the MPLA, which is the only party that has governed Angola since its Independence from Portugal in 1975.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco on being re-elected as the President of Angola and emphasized on working together to strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Angola.
PM Modi Leaves Historic Uzbek City of Samarkand
Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Uzbekistan's historic city of Samarkand after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and holding bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The SCO held its first in-person summit in Samarkand in Uzbekistan after two years. The summit also saw the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Putin, Raisi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif among other leaders from the Central Asian countries.
Darjeeling Zoo in Bengal Recognised as Best in India
The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP) in West Bengal's Darjeeling was adjudged the best zoo in the country, while Kolkata's Alipore Zoological Garden secured the fourth position.
A zoo directors' conference was held in Bhubaneswar and the Central Zoo Authority released the ranking list in the Odisha capital.
There are around 150 zoos across the country.
As per the list, the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai secured the second position, followed by the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysore, Karnataka.
The Darjeeling zoo was established on August 14, 1958. The zoological park is internationally recognised for its breeding and conservation programmes of endangered animal species of the eastern Himalayas, including the Snow Leopard and the Red Panda.
PM Modi Releases Wild Cheetahs in MP's Kuno National Park
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released wild cheetahs, which had become extinct from India, in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park.
Cheetahs brought from Namibia were introduced in India under Project Cheetah, which is the world's first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project. Out of the eight cheetahs, five are female and three are male.
The release of wild Cheetahs by the Prime Minister in Kuno National Park is part of his efforts to revitalise and diversify India's wildlife and its habitat.
The cheetah was declared extinct from India in 1952.
SIAM Appoints Vinod Aggarwal as New President for 2022-23
Automotive industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), elected Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV), as its new president for the fiscal year 2022-23.
Aggarwal, who was the Vice President of SIAM succeeded Kenichi Ayukawa, Executive Vice Chairman & Whole Time Director, Maruti Suzuki India.
The members of SIAM also elected Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility as the Vice President of SIAM for FY2023.

Govt . Permits Invoicing, Payment and Settlement of Trade in Rupee
The commerce ministry allowed invoicing, payment and settlement of exports and imports in Indian rupee, a move aimed at facilitating trade in the domestic currency.
In July, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had asked banks to put in place additional arrangements for export and import transactions in Indian rupees in view of increasing interest of the global trading community in the domestic currency.
To align the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) with this decision of the RBI, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) added a new paragraph in the FTP.
DGFT is an arm of the ministry which deals with export and import related matters.
The China National Space Agency (CNSA) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) of the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on future moon missions.
The two agencies would collaborate on future moon missions involving the landing of an MBRSC rover aboard a CNSA lander. The agreement marks the first joint space project between the UAE and China.
The MBRSC is already working with two private-sector partners on its Emirates Lunar Mission, which is scheduled to send the small Rashid rover to the moon late this year.

Anti-submarine Ship INS Ajay Decommissioned after 32 Years of Service
INS Ajay, an anti-submarine warfare corvette of Western Naval Command, was decommissioned on September 19 after 32 years of service.
Commissioned in the freezing temperatures of Poti Shipyard of erstwhile Soviet Union, which is presently in Georgia, the ship was decommissioned in Mumbai.
During its service, INS Ajay was operating as part of the 23rd Patrol Vessel Squadron under the operational control of Flag Officer Commanding, Maharashtra Naval Area. The ship's primary role was in anti-submarine warfare and with its formidable armament of long-range torpedoes and anti-submarines rockets, the submarine hunter successfully discharged its role of keeping the coasts safe.

U.N. children's agency UNICEF named Vanessa Nakate, a 25-year-old Ugandan climate activist as goodwill ambassador.
Inspired by Sweden's Greta Thunberg, Nakate began her climate action in 2019 and has since founded the Rise up Movement and addressed global climate summits.
Globally half the world's 2.2 billion children live in one of the 33 countries, classified by UNICEF's Children's Climate Risk Index as "extremely highrisk" of the impacts of climate change. According to UNICEF, the top 10 countries are all in Africa.
Former Union Minister Manikrao Gavit Dies
Former Union Minister and Congress leader Manikrao Gavit died in Maharashtra's Nashik. Gavit was 87.
A nine-time Lok Sabha MP, Gavit represented the tribal-dominated Nandurbar constituency from 1980 to 2009 and lost the election in 2014.
Gavit's son Bharat joined the BJP after he was denied a ticket by the Congress in 2019, while daughter Nirmala, a two-time Congress MLA from Igatpuri, joined the Shiv Sena and lost her seat.
Gavit served as the Union Minister of state home in the Manmohan Singh government in 2004 and minister of state social justice in 2013.

Capital Punishment: Supreme Court Refers Matter to 5-Judge Bench
The Supreme Court referred the issue related to hearing the accused before imposing death penalty on him to a five-Judge Constitution Bench, stating that having clarity on granting real and meaningful opportunity of hearing to accused in such cases was important.
The bench of Chief Justice U.U. lalit, Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, while giving the example of Bacchan Singh case, noted that the Court had mandated separate hearing of the accused before imposing death penalty in the case, as per the recommendations of the 48th Law Commission of India.
Stating that there were conflicting judgements on the issue, the Apex Court noted that in all cases where the death penalty was a choice, it was necessary to place mitigating circumstances on record.
