World Water Congress and Exhibition 2022 Held in Copenhagen
The 2022 World Water Congress & Exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark, engaged stakeholders and key contacts within the conventional water sector and beyond. Held from 11-15 September, 2022, the event brought together core water sector groups, such as those focused on urban water and urban water services, as well as participants from industry and agriculture, architects and urban planners, soil and groundwater experts and hydrologists, social scientists, the ICT sector, the financial sector, and others.
The Congress reported on the water sector progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The emphasis was on SDG6, which is dedicated to water and sanitation. The event also highlighted and explored the interwoven relation of water with all 17 of the global SDGs. The World Water Congress was organised by the International Water Association (IWA).
India's First Plastic Project Listed by EKI Energy Services Ltd
Carbon credit developer and supplier EKI Energy Services (EKI) listed a plastic project from India under a global accreditation standard, becoming the first company to do so.
With this, the Indore-based carbon credit expert that has been working in the realm of climate action and offset solutions since the last 14 years across 16 countries, has become the first ever firm to list a plastic project from the country with an aim to generate India's first-ever international plastic credits.
The project ensures that plastic waste -- predominantly Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) waste, PET flakes and chips -- is duly sourced and recycled to produce Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (RPSF) that can be further used in the textile industry for garments and other fabric-based utility products.
Andhra Pradesh, Odisha Attract Maximum Industrial Investment in 2022
Andhra Pradesh topped the charts for attracting maximum industrial investment in the country. Andhra Pradesh attracted investments from several tech giants in the first seven months of 2022.
The latest statistics of the Department for Promotion of Industries and Internal Trade (DPIIT), a central government agency, revealed that by the end of July 2022, India got an industrial investment worth Rs. 1,71,285 crore. Andhra Pradesh topped the list with Rs. 40,361 crore, followed by Odisha with Rs. 36,828 crore.
Andhra Pradesh and Odisha combinedly bagged 45 per cent of total investment.
CSB Bank Appoints Pralay Mondal as MD & CEO
The Reserve Bank of India approved the appointment of Pralay Mondal as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CSB Bank for three years.
Mondal was the deputy managing director of the bank since February 17, 2022 and was subsequently appointed as interim MD & CEO with effect from April 1, 2022.
Mondal started his stint in CSB Bank in September 2020 as the president of retail, SME, operations and IT and was involved in building up the retail franchise distribution and branches.
Tata Consumer Appoints David Atkinson to Head its UK, Ireland Business
Tata Consumer Products (TCP), the FMCG arm of Tata Group, announced the appointment of David Atkinson as Senior Vice President and Head of its UK and Ireland business.
In his new role as Country Head, Atkinson would be responsible for leading the business and teams in the UK and Ireland.
Atkinson, who comes with over two decades of experience, joined TCP from Hain Daniels Group, where he served as Managing Director, Grocery.
Google Acquires Cyber-security Company Mandiant for $5.4 Billion
Global technology major Google has announced to complete the $5.4 billion acquisition of cyber-security firm Mandiant. According to Google Cloud chief executive officer (CEO) Thomas Kurian, Mandiant would join Google Cloud to help organisations improve their threat, incident and exposure management.
Mandiant is known for unearthing the SolarWinds hack that shook the world. Several big companies, including tech giants like Intel, Cisco, VMware and Nvidia, suffered part of the SolarWinds hack allegedly orchestrated by Russia-backed cybercriminals.
India Beat Nepal to Clinch SAFF U-17 Championship Title in Colombo
India clinched the SAFF under-17 Championship title, defeating Nepal 4-0 in the final in Colombo.
Boby Singh, Korou Singh, captain Vanlalpeka Guite, and Aman scored a goal each, to shape a resounding victory in India's favour. With this win, India retained the title.
In the group league, Nepal defeated India 3-1. However, in the final, India produced a clinical performance, and lifted the title for the fourth time.
India captain Vanlalpeka Guite was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while goalkeeper Sahil won the Best Goalkeeper award.
SAFF under-17 Championship is an international football competition for men's under-17 national teams organized by South Asian Football Federation (SAFF).
Robin Uthappa Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket
Former India opener Robin Uthappa announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket.
Uthappa played the 2004 Under-19 World Cup. He made his international debut two years later and featured in 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India.
The stylish batter was a part of the Indian side which lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 in South Africa. The batter from Karnataka has won two IPL trophies-- one for KKR and one for CSK in 2014 and 2021 respectively.
Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, former IAS, Named Managing Director of CSC e-Governance SPV
Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, a former IAS officer, was named Managing Director of the CSC e-Governance India SPV, which is run by the central government. The appointment followed Dinesh Tyagi's resignation from the position, who was instrumental in increasing the number of CSCs from 60,000 in 2014 to over 5 lakh at the moment.
He has approximately 30 years of experience working for the government in a variety of capacities.
He is an IAS officer from the Tripura cadre, class of 1990.
Sanjay Kumar Rakesh served as the additional chief secretary in Tripura before joining the CSC.
Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk Meets with PM Modi in Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wanghchuck, the King of Bhutan, and discuss bilateral ties and ways to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan were established in 1968 after the then Indian government established a special office in Thimphu. There are a number of institutional and diplomatic mechanisms in areas like security, border management, trade and water resources.
Bhutan ratified the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement, providing an action-oriented, member-driven, collaborative framework for increased implementation.

Indore Becomes India's First 'Smart City' with 'Smart Addresses'
The city of Indore signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the firm Pataa Navigations to implement a fully digital addressing system, making it the first city in India to do so. The MoU is signed by Rajat Jain, co-founder of Pataa Navigations, and Rishav Gupta, CEO of Indore Smart City.
Pataa developed patented technology for the system and is working with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to develop a digital addressing system for the nation.
Pataa is a brief and distinctive code that would help the user find the specific geotagged location. Users of the Pataa App can upload images of their homes, landmarks, etc. along with their addresses in the full text.
Additionally, the user has the option to record voice instructions, which eliminates the need to repeat the address over the phone and makes it simpler for the guest to find the location.
According to reports, India is reportedly losing an estimated Rs. 75,000 crore annually as a result of its complicated addressing system.
J&K: Indian Navy Revives Training Centre at Manasbal Lake after 33 Years
The Indian Navy revived a training area at Jammu and Kashmir's Manasbal Lake in Ganderbal district. Officials said that the facility in central Kashmir was excellent for the naval training of NCC in J&K. However, due to deteriorating security situation back then, the site had to be abandoned in 1989. The training areas were then shifted to the Mansar Lake in Jammu. After a gap of 33 years and since the security situation has improved in J&K, as per officials, Indian Navy started providing training to NCC cadets here again.
Speaking to reporters at the training centre, Group Commander NCC Group Srinagar Brigadier K. S. Kalsi said it is a momentous occasion and a red-letter day for the NCC in the Kashmir valley.
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
September 16 marks the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. In 1987, representatives from 24 countries met in Canada's Montreal to discuss the alarming situation of depleting the Ozone layer. The countries agreed on the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, calling for the world to get rid of the substances that cause Ozone depletion. In December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly designated September 16 International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The world celebrated the first International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on September 16th, 1995.
The theme announced by the UN Environment Programme for International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer 2022 was 'Global Cooperation Protecting Life on Earth.'
Ahmedabad Civic Body-run Medical College Named after Prime Minister Modi
A medical college run by an education trust of the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Medical Education Trust (MET) runs the college in Ahmedabad's Maninagar area. "Now, the 'AMC MET Medical College', which runs from the campus of AMC-run LG Hospital in Maninagar area of the city, would be known as 'Narendra Modi Medical College', announced Hitesh Barot, chairman of the municipal corporation's standing committee.
India's First Forest University to Come Up in Telangana
India is soon going to get its first forest university. The Telangana legislative assembly approved the University of Forestry (UOF) Act 2022. The 'University of Forestry (UOF) will be the first of its kind in the country. With only Russia and China having forest universities in the world, globally, this will be the third university of forestry.
