Russia Annual Summit

  • The 21st India Russia Annual Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin was held at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on December 6, 2021.
  •  First-ever India-Russia '2+2' dialogue held in New Delhi and the participants were Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu. 
  •  India signed an agreement for procurement of 6 lakh AK-203 rifles from Russia for Rs. 5000 crores. 

Maitri Diwas

  • India and Bangladesh has jointly celebrated the Maitri Diwas on 6th December 2021 to commemorate 50 years of the Bangladesh Liberation War.
  • During the visit of PM Shri Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March 2021 to attend the national day of Bangladesh, it was decided to commemorate 06 December as Maitri Diwas (Friendship Day). India had recognised Bangladesh on 06 December 1971. India was one of the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.
  • The Maitri Diwas is being commemorated in 18 countries around the world apart from in Dhaka and Delhi. These countries are Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, UK, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE and USA. The holding of Maitri Diwas is a reflection of the deep and abiding friendship between the peoples of India and Bangladesh that has been forged in blood and shared sacrifices.

US Boycotted Olympics 2022

  •  The US Government recently announced the boycott of Olympics 2022. The Olympics 2022 is to be held in Beijing.
  • The US cited that "China's human rights ATTROCITIES" is the main reason for its boycott.
  • The US is boycotting for the following human rights atrocities of China:
  •  Situations in Taiwan and Tibet.
  • The crackdown in Hong Kong.
  • Abuse of minority Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

Mr Sanjiv Mehta - President of FICCI

  •  Mr Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) will be appointed as the President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at the conclusion of FICCI's 94th Annual General Meeting on 18th December 2021.
  • Mr Mehta, currently, the Senior Vice President of FICCI, will be succeeding Mr Uday Shankar, the current President of FICCI.
  • Mr Mehta is also the President of Unilever South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Nepal), and is a member of the 'Unilever Leadership Executive' which is Unilever's Global Executive Board.
  • During his eight years at the helm, HUL's market capitalisation has increased by over $55 billion making it one of the most valuable companies in the country. In this period, HUL has won several awards and recognitions including the prestigious Economic Times 'Company of the Year' & 'Corporate Citizen of the Year' awards, Business Standard's 'Company of the year' award and the 'Best Governed Company' award by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability. Forbes rated HUL as the most innovative company in India and the 8th most innovative company in the world. Aon Hewitt in a global study rated HUL as the 3rd best company globally for building leaders.

Yutu - 2 Spotted a Cube - Shaped Mystery Hut

  •  Yutu – 2 is a Chinese lunar rover that was launched to the moon in Chang'e 4 mission. It was launched in 2018 and it landed on the moon in 2019.
  • Recently, the rover spotted a cube – shaped mystery hut on the far side of the moon. 
  • A likely explanation for the object is that it can be a larger boulder that was excavated by an impact event.

Ajaz Patel Made History

  •  New Zealand's Mumbai-born spinner, Ajaz Patel made history by taking all ten Indian wickets in the first innings of the second Test at Wankhede Stadium.
  • Such is the enormity of Patel's feat that only two bowlers had done it before him in 144 years of Test cricket.
  • The former India captain, welcoming the 33-year-old to the exclusive club, wrote in a Twitter post: "Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match."

Lewis Hamilton Won Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

  •  Lewis Hamilton won a crazy, twice-halted Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to send the Formula One world championship into a winner-takes-all final showdown with the Mercedes driver and Red Bull's Max Verstappen level on points.
  • On a chaotic night of soaring emotions in Jeddah, the inaugural race in the Gulf kingdom took almost as many twists and turns as an already astonishing and enthralling rollercoaster season.
  • There were crashes, safety cars, red flags, claims of dirty driving after Hamilton hit the back of Verstappen's suddenly slowing car, penalties, collisions and extraordinary exchanges between race director Michael Masi and the top two teams.
  • Seven-times world champion Hamilton took the bonus point for fastest lap to level with Verstappen on 369.5 points after 21 races.

Konijeti Rosaiah Died

  •  Former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and veteran Congress leader Konijeti Rosaiah died on 4th December, 2021.
  • He was 88.
  • Rosaiah political journey began in 1968 as an MLC. He also served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu from August 31, 2011 to August 30, 2016.

International Civil Aviation Day

  •  International Civil Aviation Day is celebrated every year on December 7 to recognize the importance of aviation to the social and economic development of the world. The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States. 
  • The Council has decided that from now until 2023, the theme will be: "Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development".
  • The Day was established in 1994 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the day in 1996.

  • The Centre has launched SRESHTA scheme for socio-economic upliftment and overall development of Scheduled Castes students by providing quality residential education to meritorious students in reputed private schools.
  • According to Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar the Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SRESHTA) scheme will enable meritorious SC students to have a better future and aid in controlling dropout rates of students from classes 9 to 12.

Lok Sabha Passes Bill for Pharmaceutical Education Institutes

  • A bill to declare six institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research as institutes of national importance and to provide for a council to ensure the development of pharmaceutical education and research was passed in Lok Sabha on 6th December, 2021. 
  • The bill seeks to amend the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Act, 1998 under which NIPER at Mohali in Punjab was declared an institute of national importance.
