SBI lists $650-mn green bonds on India INX, Luxembourg Stock Exchange

  • State Bank of India (SBI) listed its USD 650-million green bonds simultaneously on the India International Exchange (India INX) and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
  • This dual listing is in line with this year's topic of the World Investor Week, 'sustainable finance', as indicated by regulatory body International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), India INX said in a statement.
  • The World Investor Week (WIW) 2021 is being observed starting today till November 28.

RBI Issues Draft Scheme for Takeover of PMC Bank by Unity Small Finance Bank

  • The Reserve Bank came up with a draft scheme for the acquisition of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank by Delhi-based Unity Small Finance Bank (USFB). 
  • The draft scheme of amalgamation published today, envisages takeover of the assets and liabilities of PMC Bank including deposits, by the USFB in terms of the provisions of the scheme giving a greater degree of protection for the depositors, RBI said.

NASA Set to Launch a New Laser Test to Speed Up Space Communications

  • US space agency NASA is all set for a new era of laser services, after the mission was delayed for two years. NASA's Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) is ready for launch on December 4.
  • It will ride to space on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V-551 rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida.
  • LCRD will showcase the unique capabilities of optical communications to increase bandwidth for communicating in space while reducing size, weight, and power requirements. LCRD will fly as a payload on Space Test Programme Satellite-6 (STPSat-6), the primary spacecraft of the Space Test Programme 3 (STP-3) mission for the Department of Defense. The LCRD will be NASA's first end-to-end laser relay system, sending and receiving data over invisible infrared lasers at a rate of approximately 1.2 gigabits per second from geo-synchronous orbit to Earth.
  • With data rates 10 to 100 times higher than traditional radio frequency systems, laser communications systems will provide future missions with extraordinary data capabilities.

  • Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton won the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix for Mercedes to cut Max Verstappen's overall Formula One lead to eight points with two races remaining.
  • Red Bull's Verstappen was second, after starting seventh following a five-place grid drop for failing to respect warning flags in Saturday's qualifying, but took a bonus point for fastest lap.
  • Double world champion Fernando Alonso was third for Renault-owned Alpine, the 40-year-old Spaniard's first podium finish since 2014.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

  • M Shahrukh Khan's late heroics (33 not out off 15 balls), including a last-ball six, helped Tamil Nadu defend their Syed Mushtaq Trophy title, beating Karnataka by four wickets in a humdinger final of the 2021/22 edition at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
  • It was also the second consecutive season Khan hit the winning runs to clinch the trophy.

CCPA Issues Notice to Amazon, Flipkart, 3 others for Selling Sub-standard Pressure Cookers

  • The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to five e-commerce entities, including Amazon, Flipkart and PaytmMall, as well as various sellers for offering pressure cookers that are non-compliant with BIS norms.
  • As part of celebrations of 75 years of Independence - 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', CCPA has initiated a country-wide campaign to prevent sale of spurious and counterfeit goods that violate Quality Control Orders published by the Centre.

Shri Bhupender Yadav Flags off First Ever All India Survey on Domestic Workers

  • Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri Bhupender Yadav flagged off the first ever All India Survey on Domestic workers being conducted by Labour Bureau, Chandigarh. Domestic workers (DWs) constitute a significant portion of total employment in the informal sector.
  • However, there is a dearth of data on the magnitude and prevailing employment conditions of DW. Hence, with the view to have time series data on domestic workers, Government of India has entrusted Labour Bureau to conduct an all-India survey on DWs.

AP Assembly Passes Bill to Repeal Act Intending 3 Capitals for the State

  • The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed a Bill to repeal the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, that was intended to establish three capitals for the state.
  • Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, however, told the Assembly his government would bring a "comprehensive, complete and better" Decentralisation Bill.

  • TV show produced by Doordarshan and radio show by All India Radio received multiple awards at the ABU - UNESCO Peace Media Awards-2021 at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. All India Radio's programme 'Living on the edge - The coastal lives' won an award in the category of 'Ethical and Sustainable Relationship with Nature'. Doordarshan's programme 'DEAFinitely Leading the Way won an award under 'Living Well with Super Diversity' category.
  • The award presentation ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 17th of November. The awards were given by UNESCO in collaboration with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union under 'Together for Peace' initiative.
  • All India Radio series 'Living on the edge - The coastal lives' explores life for fishing communities living on the edge in Visakhapatnam. This programme was devised and produced by Monika Gulati, Programme Executive of All India Radio in Delhi.

  • Senior journalist and Business Standard columnist Tamal Bandyopadhyay won the Tata Literature Live! Award for his book Pandemonium: The Great Indian Banking Tragedy.
  • Published by Roli Books, Pandemonium was selected under the business book of the year category.
  • Bandopadhyay, who writes the Banker's Trust column, had earlier received an award at Kalinga Literary Festival for Pandemonium — touted as a definitive insider story on the rot in India's banking system.

Manish Tewari Book: BJP Hits Out at Congress over UPA Govt's Response to 26/11

  • Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Congress over the party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's response to the November 26, 2008, terror attacks in Mumbai. The controversy erupted over an excerpt from Tewari's latest book, titled '10 Flashpoints; 20 Years,' published by Rupa Publications.
  • Reacting to the Anandpur Sahib MP's opinion, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted: "After Salman Khurshid, another Congress leader throws the UPA under the bus to sell his book. Manish Tewari in his new book slams the UPA for weakness in the name of restraint post 26/11. Air Chief Marshal Fali Major is already on record saying the IAF was ready to strike, but the UPA froze."
