Japan Cabinet Approves Record stimulus Package to Fix Economy
Japan's Cabinet approved a record 56 trillion yen ($490 billion) stimulus package, including cash handouts and aid to ailing businesses, to help the economy out of the doldrums worsened by the coronavirus pandemic.
The package has more than enough content and scale to deliver a sense of security and hope to the people.
It still needs parliamentary approval.
The plan includes doling out 100,000 yen ($880) each in monetary assistance to those 18 years or younger, and aid for businesses whose sales plummeted because of coronavirus measures.
South Korea Calls on US to Revise Trump-era Tariff Rules on Steel Exports
South Korea's top trade official called on the US to launch negotiations swiftly to revise the tariff rules imposed by former President Donald Trump's administration on Seoul's steel exports.
South Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo made the request to visiting US Trade Representative Katherine Tai during in a joint committee meeting of the bilateral free trade agreement.
It is the first time in 10 years that a US top trade official has visited South Korea.
South Korea has been pushing for the revision of the Section 232 tariff rules.
Masood Khan �" Pakistan's New Envoy to U.S.
Former president of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Masood Khan, was named as Islamabad's new ambassador to the US.
Earlier this month, the Pakistan Embassy in Washington received Khan's nomination papers, replacing the current ambassador, Asad Majeed Khan, who has been serving in the position since January 2019. Khan's predecessor nears the end of his three-year term and is expected to return to Islamabad by mid-2022.
In the past, Khan has served as Pakistan's permanent representative to the UN, ambassador to China, and Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies, a think tank based in Islamabad that is funded by Pakistan's foreign ministry. He also worked as a TV news anchor during the early stages of his career.
Khan's appointment comes at a time when bilateral relations between Islamabad and Washington appear to be balancing on an edge, especially after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.
ONGC, Saudi Aramco Sign Feedstock and Marketing MoU
To explore a strategic alliance on a broad range of energy prospects, public sector oil and gas explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with world's largest oil company Saudi Aramco.
The two energy companies will look into long-term supply contracts for the sale and purchase of crude, refined petroleum and petrochemical products to create secure and competitive energy sources for the Indian market.
Both the entities also hope to utilize their affiliates in this strategic alliance, namely; Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), ONGC Petro-additions Ltd. (OPaL) and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd. (OMPL) of ONGC and Aramco Trading Company (ATC) of Saudi Aramco.
TVS Supply Chain Acquires Stake in FIT 3PL
TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS SCS), the logistics arm of $8.5 billion TVS Group, acquired a majority stake of 69 per cent in Bengaluru-based FIT 3PL Warehousing (FIT 3PL), an end-to-end contract logistics services provider, for an undisclosed amount from FIT Consulting and Services.
FIT 3PL is one of the few independent Indian logistics companies with pan India presence and has consistently delivered strong and profitable revenue growth over the years.
India World's Largest Recipient of Remittances
India, the world's largest recipient of remittances, received USD 87 billion in 2021 with the United States being the biggest source, accounting for over 20 per cent of these funds, according to the World Bank.
India is followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, and Egypt.
In India, remittances are projected to grow three per cent in 2022 to USD 89.6 billion, reflecting a drop in overall migrant stock, as a large proportion of returnees from the Arab countries await return.
Amateur astronomers discovered a new drawf Galaxy. Named Pisces VII/Triangulum (Tri) III, the newly-discovered galaxy is an ultra-faint dwarf satellite candidate of the Triangulum galaxy (also known as Messier 33 or M33).
Pisces VII/ Tri III was discovered in the Pisces constellation by the amateur astronomer Giuseppe Donatiello using the public imaging data from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys.
The discovery was subsequently confirmed by a visual inspection of the SDSS DR9 images and follow-up observations using the Italian Telescopio Nazionale Galileo.
Pisces VII/ Tri III lies at a projected distance of 72,000 parsecs (234,833 light-years) from the Triangulum Galaxy.

Former South African batter AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
De Villiers last played for South Africa in April 2018 when the Proteas locked horns with Australia at Johannesburg.
De Villiers last game in the limited-overs format for South Africa came in February 2018, against India.
De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for South Africa. The former South African batter featured in 340 T20 games for different teams across the globe.
Guptill Surpasses Kohli to Become Leading Run-getter in T20s
New Zealand opener Martin Guptill surpassed Indian star Virat Kohli to become the leading run-getter in T20 Internationals.
Guptill surpassed Kohli during the second T20 match of the three-match series in November 2021.
Guptill has 3248 runs to his name compared to Kohli's 3227. Guptill averages a little over 30 while Kohli is way ahead of him on that front with an average of 52. Rohit Sharma is third in the leading run-getters' standings with more than 3000 runs.

Jaishankar Meets Singapore PM and Top Ministers to Enhance Bilateral Ties
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and discussed how the two countries can work towards an even stronger partnership in the post-pandemic world.
Jaishankar, also met a number of top ministers and exchanged views with them on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Singapore.
Punjab Government Appoints Patwalia as New AG
The Punjab government appointed Senior Advocate D. S. Patwalia as the new Advocate General, giving in to the demand raised by state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Patwalia's appointment as the state's top law officer comes days after Punjab Cabinet accepted the resignation of senior advocate APS Deol, who had to put in his papers in the face of strong pressure exerted by Sidhu.
The Indian Navy conducted a security exercise, called "Prasthan", in the Offshore Development Area (ODA) off the coast of Mumbai.
The exercise, conducted by the Headquarters Western Naval Command, is held every six months.
The exercise aimed to integrate maritime stakeholders, including the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, ONGC, Port Trust, Customs, State Fisheries department and Marine Police, towards refining standard operating procedures for response to various contingencies that could occur in the ODAs.
The exercise was conducted on the MHN platform of ONGC located about 94 nautical miles west of Mumbai.
World Children's Day is observed annually on November 20 to commemorate the day of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly on the same day in 1959. The day is celebrated globally to promote the rights of children besides improving their standard of living. It also promotes international togetherness and raises awareness among children to improve their welfare.

Jason Mott Wins US Literary Prize for 'Masterful' Novel 'Hell of a Book'
The North Carolina writer Jason Mott won the National Book Foundation's 2021 prize for fiction, for his novel Hell of a Book.
The US foundation's 72nd annual awards were presented online only due to Covid-19.
Mott is best known for his 2013 bestselling debut novel The Returned, about the reappearance of dead residents in a Missouri town, which was later adapted into the US TV series Resurrection.
