North Korea Accuses Joe Biden of Pursuing Hostile Policy over its Nuclear Programme
North Korea has hit out at the Biden administration as it prepares to unveil its strategy for dealing with Pyongyang and its nuclear programme.
The foreign ministry said that comments out of Washington showed President Joe Biden was intent on maintaining a "hostile policy".
Earlier this week, Mr. Biden called North Korea's nuclear programme a "serious threat" to global security.
The White House says he plans to take a "calibrated" approach to North Korea.
Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Friday that a review of US policy had been completed and suggested Mr Biden had learned from the experience of the previous four administrations who have tried, and failed, to get North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.
"Our policy will not focus on achieving a grand bargain, nor will it rely on strategic patience," she said, saying that instead the US would pursue a "calibrated practical approach that is open to and will explore diplomacy" with North Korea while making "practical progress" on increasing security for the US and its allies.
The US is expected to host Japan and South Korea's national security advisers for a discussion about the review soon.
Pentagon to Cancel Trump's Mexico Wall Projects Using Military Funds
In the US, the Pentagon said that it was canceling the construction of parts of former US President Donald Trump's border wall with Mexico that were being built using military funds.
Pentagon spokesman Jamal Brown said that the Department of Defense is proceeding with canceling all border barrier construction projects paid for with funds originally intended for other military missions and functions such as schools for military children, overseas military construction projects in partner nations, and the National Guard and Reserve equipment account. He added that the returned funds would be used for deferred military construction projects.
Former US President Trump had declared a national emergency in 2019 in an effort to redirect funding to build a wall along the U.S. southern border. The diversion of funds from the Pentagon had been heavily criticized by US lawmakers, who said it put national security at risk and circumvented congress.
US President Joe Biden had issued a proclamation on January 20th, his first day in office, ordering a freeze on border wall projects and directing a review of the legality of its funding and contracting methods.
How Climate Change is Killing Coral Reef in the Pristine Chagos Archipelago
The Chagos Archipelago is one of the most remote, seemingly idyllic places on Earth. Coconut-covered sandy beaches with incredible bird life rim tropical islands in the Indian Ocean, hundreds of miles from any continent. Just below the waves, coral reefs stretch for miles along an underwater mountain chain.
It's a paradise. At least it was before the heat wave.
When I first explored the Chagos Archipelago 15 years ago, the underwater view was incredible. Schools of brilliantly colored fish in blues, yellows and oranges darted among the corals of a vast, healthy reef system. Sharks and other large predators swam overhead. Because the archipelago is so remote and sits in one of the largest marine protected areas on the planet, it has been sheltered from industrial fishing fleets and other activities that can harm the coastal environment.

The mop up is higher than the previous record of Rs. 1.24 trillion in March. These GST figures pertain to transactions in March, but collected in April. Hence, do not capture the impact of surge in lockdown instances in April across the country due to the deadlier second wave of coronavirus. However, the high growth trend is unlikely to sustain as the impact of economic activity disruption in April will reflect in May collections.
The collections remained over the Rs. 1.1 trillion mark for the fifth time in a row, provisional data released by the finance ministry showed. Till now, GST revenues have crossed Rs. 1.1 trillion six times since the introduction of GST.

US and NATO Start to Formally Withdraw Troops from Afghanistan
The US has started formally withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, beginning the end of what President Joe Biden called "the forever war".
The US and NATO have had a presence in Afghanistan for almost 20 years.
But the withdrawal, which runs until 11 September, comes amid escalating violence, with Afghan security forces on high alert for reprisal attacks.
The Taliban have warned they are no longer bound by an agreement not to target international troops.
Under a deal signed last year between the militants and then-President Donald Trump, foreign forces were to have left by 1 May while the Taliban held off attacking international troops.
World Laughter Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of May to spread awareness about the many healing benefits of laughter. "Everybody knows that laughing feels good, but few realize how valuable these simple tools can be in improving our every day wellness and wellbeing," states the official website of World Laughter Day. To make sure their followers enjoy a good chuckle on World Laughter Day, Mumbai Police took a trip down memory lane to remember some of the funniest excuses their officers have heard while on duty.
World Laughter Day was created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. Dr. Kataria, a family doctor in India, was inspired to start the Laughter Yoga movement in part by the facial feedback hypothesis, which postulates that a person's facial expressions can have an effect on their emotions. The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. It is most often celebrated by gatherings of people in public places with the sole purpose of laughing. Its popularity has grown exponentially with that of the Laughter Yoga movement now counting thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 105 countries. And now it is celebrated worldwide.
The Government of Germany announced that it is to return the artefacts called the "Benin Bronzes" to Nigeria. The "Benin Bronzes" are currently held in the museum of Germany.
They are a group of thousand metal sculptures. These sculptures once decorated the royal palace of Kingdom of Benin, the current Nigeria. Some of these sculptures were looted by the British during the Benin Expedition of 1897.
Though they are named as bronzes, they are mostly made of brass. They are also made of mixtures of brass and bronze. Some of them are even made of ivory, wood or ceramic.
The golden ages of the sculptures occurred during the reigns of Esigie and Eresoyen.
They are made using lost-wax casting process. It is a process of making copies from a model. The method had been used in Indus Valley Civilisation as well.
