China's first domestically developed unmanned helicopter focused on plateau operations made its maiden flight.
Capable of conducting missions including reconnaissance, communication relay, electronic disruption and fire strike at high altitude, this versatile and easy-to-operate drone could help safeguard China's southwestern borders with India.
The AR500C unmanned helicopter, developed by the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), successfully made its maiden flight at an AVIC base in Poyang, East China's Jiangxi Province, in which it conducted several maneuvers including hovering, horizontal and vertical moves.

Scientists at BSI Discover 3 New Plant Species in Western Ghats
A team of scientists led by K.A. Sujana at the Kolkata based Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have discovered 3 new plant species namely- Eugenia sphaerocarpa, Goniothalamus sericeus and Memecylon nervosum at the Western Ghats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu (TN).
Eugenia sphaenrocarpa found primarily in the Kakkayam area of the Malabar wildlife sanctuary in Kerala at an altitude of 800 m, it belongs to the Myrtaceae or Rose apple family.
Goniothalamus sericeus discovered in the Kanyakumari wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu (TN) at an altitude of 1400m, this species belongs to the Annonaceae family of custard apple.
Memecylon nervosum found at an altitude between 700-900m at the Kanyakumari wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu (TN), this species belongs to the Melastomataceae (Kayamboo or Kaasavu in local parlance) family.

Lufthansa Agrees €9bn Rescue Deal with Germany
Lufthansa has agreed a rescue deal worth €9bn (£8bn) with the German government that saves it from collapse.
The German airline has been severely affected by a decline in travel due to the coronavirus and closed its budget airline Germanwings in April 2020.
The German government will take a 20% stake in the firm, which it intends to sell by the end of 2023.
But the deal still has to be approved by the firm's shareholders and the European Commission.

Singh was member of the 1948 London Olympics gold medal-winning Indian hockey team, apart from being the vice-captain of the 1952 victorious side and skipper of the 1956 champions.

US Navy Successfully Tests a Laser Weapon That can Destroy Aircraft Mid-Flight
A US Navy warship has successfully tested a new high-energy laser weapon that can destroy aircraft mid-flight, the Navy's Pacific Fleet has announced.
Images and videos provided by the Navy show the amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland executing "the first system-level implementation of a high-energy class solid-state laser" to disable an aerial drone aircraft.
It did not give a specific location of the laser weapons system demonstrator (LWSD) test, saying only that it occurred in the Pacific on May 16, 2020.
Navy ships face an increasing number of threats in conducting their missions, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, armed small boats, and adversary intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.

Indian Association in Uganda, with help of the Indian Military training team, set up a military war game centre in Jinja district.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni inaugurated the war game centre conceptualised by Indian military team for Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF).
The wargame centre was comissioned at the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka in Jinja District.
Indian-Origin Physician Appointed to New York's Commission on Economic Recovery
Pulitzer winning Indian-American physician, Siddhartha Mukherjee has been appointed as a member of New York's commission that will focus on jumpstarting the state's economy, which has been badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
Another Indian-origin higher education leader, Satish Tripathi has also been named as a member of the commission by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The New York Governor made the announcement on May 24, 2020. He stated that New York's Blue-Ribbon Commission will focus on improving telehealth and broadband access using new and innovative technologies.
