PM Modi Delivers Keynote Address At Bloomberg Global Business Forum

  •  In his keynote address at the third edition of Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York, Prime Minister said his government is working towards improving the business environment in the country.
  • He said India has cut corporate tax and has done away with 50 old laws that were detrimental for the development.
  • PM Modi informed the forum, India is going to invest 1.3 trillion dollars in modern infrastructure in the coming years. He said, lakhs of crores of rupees are also being spent on the social infrastructure of the country.
  • India is rapidly defeating poverty and moving in ladder increasing purchasing power. He said, India has opened its defence sector like never before. 90% of FDI is through automatic route.

9th India-China Financial Dialogue Held To Strengthen Cooperation

  •  9th India-China Financial Dialogue was held in New Delhi. A high-level Chinese delegation led by Ms. Zou Jiayi, Vice Minister, Ministry of Finance, China interacted with the Indian delegation led by Atanu Chakraborty, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on wide-ranging issues of mutual interest.
  • The India-China Financial Dialogue is a mechanism between the two countries with an aim to promote cooperation in the financial sector.

Donald Trump Becomes Fourth US President To Face Impeachment

  • Washington plunged into an impeachment crisis, as House Democrats opened an investigation into President Donald Trump's campaign season dealings with Ukraine.
  • Trump repeatedly prodded Ukraine's president to look into Democratic rival Joe Biden, according to a rough transcript released by the White House.
  • "Whatever you can do with the attorney general would be great," Trump said in the summer phone call. He was referring to attorney general William Barr, the nation's top law enforcement official.
  • The president's words set the parameters of the political debate to come, with Trump dismissing it as routine and Democrats saying that it laid the predicate for an impeachment inquiry.

UEFA To Plant 50,000 Trees In Republic Of Ireland

  •  The governing body of European football says it's going to plant 50,000 trees in the Republic of Ireland to offset emissions from people travelling to Euro 2020 matches.
  • The move is part of an UEFA climate action project.
  • The body will plant 600,000 trees across the 12 host countries of the tournament.
  • Euro 2020 will be spread across a dozen venues in Europe, including the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
  • Other venues include Hampden Park in Glasgow and the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

PNB launches Preventive Vigilance portal

  •  Punjab National Bank launched a Preventive Vigilance portal to facilitate its staff members to check procedural lapses and promote good practices.
  • In order to promote vigilance awareness, a function was held at PNB Corporate Office, chaired by Central Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar.
  • Besides other activities, such as inauguration of e-pledge mission, social outreach through technological platforms for promoting the central theme of 'Integrity - A way of Life', the bank introduced technology based solutions through the Preventive Vigilance (PV) portal.

PM's Economic Advisory Council Reconstituted

  •  The government announced that it had reconstituted the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council for a period of two years.
  • Dr. Bibek Debroy and Shri Ratan P. Watal will continue to be the chairman and member secretary, respectively, of the reconstituted EAC-PM.
  • The EAC-PM would have two part-time members apart from the two full-time members. Ashima Goyal will be retained as a part-time member and joined by Sajjid Chenoy, currently JP Morgan's chief India economist.

Rivigo Becomes Eighth Unicorn Startup Of 2019

  •   Trucking logistics firm Rivigo is the eighth Indian startup to become a unicorn — valued a billion dollars or more —  after it raised $4.9 million from a South Korean fund, KB Platform Fund.
  • It is now valued at $1.05 billion, from the $950 million in February 2018, when it raised $50 million from SAIF Partners and private equity major Warburg Pincus.

  •  The Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) is organizing a National Level Seminar cum Exhibition on Anti-Drone Technology at BPR&D, New Delhi on 26 September, 2019.
  • BPR&D will demonstrate on 27 September 2019 at BSF Campus, Bhondsi, Haryana.
  • The National Level seminar cum exhibition and demonstration is to ensure that Police officers from all States, Union Territories (UTs), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organisation (CPO) have updated information about Anti- Drone Technology.
  • It will also ensure to explore the best comprehensive and compatible solution to control rogue drones.
The seminar includes 3 sessions including:
1) Threat Perspective, Border, Oil/Gas, Critical Infrastructure, Civil Aviation, Terrorism, Law enforcement

NASA To Pay $4.6 Bn To Buy 6 Spacecraft For Artemis Moon Missions

  •  NASA has contracted American global aerospace company Lockheed Martin to develop minimum six and as many as 12 spacecraft for its Artemis lunar exploration programme.
  • NASA has designated a total of around $4.6 billion for six spacecrafts.
  • NASA's Artemis programme aims to land American astronauts, including the first woman and the next man, on the Moon by 2024

Sumariwalla Re-Elected As IAAF Council Member For Second Term

  •  Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwalla is re-elected as the member of the IAAF Council for a second four-year term during the 52nd Congress of the sport's world governing body.
  • Sumariwalla received 121 votes to get elected as one of the 13 individual members of the IAAF Council.
  • The four vice-presidents will sit on the powerful IAAF Executive Board along with the president and three professional employees.
  • Britain's Sebastian Coe was re-elected unopposed as president of the IAAF for a second term. Sergei Bubka, Geoffrey Gardner, Nawaf Bin Mohammad Al Saud and Ximena Restrepo were elected as vice-presidents.

Pankaj Advani-Aditya Mehta Pair Wins World Team Snooker Title

  •  The Indian duo of Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta has won the IBSF World Snooker Team title at Mandalay, Myanmar.
  • The Indian pair beat Thailand's team comprising C.Pongsakorn and D.Poramin 5-2 in the final.
  • This takes Advani's world title tally to a phenomenal 23 while Aditya claimed his maiden title.
  • Earlier in the day, the Advani-Mehta duo defeated the Thai pair of Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon and Kritsanut Lertsattayathor 4-1 in the semi-final.

Malabar Navy Exercise

  •  Indigenously designed and built Indian Naval Ships– 6,100-tonne stealth frigate INS Sahyadari, and ASW Corvette Kiltan have reached Sasebo, for the 23rd edition of the Trilateral Maritime Exercise MALABAR.
  • Navies of India, Japan and the US participate in anti-submarine drill to bolster the strong maritime bonds of friendship between India, Japan and the US, and to contribute to security and stability in the region.
  • The ten-day exercise which is scheduled between the navies of India, Japan, and the US is starting from Sept 26 - Oct 4, 2019 off the coast of Japan.
  • The Indian side led by Rear Admiral Suraj Berry, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet has reached Japan.
  • The US has sent an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS McCampbell, amphibious warship USS Green Bay and a Los Angeles class nuclear fast attack submarine, while Japan has the 27,000-tonne Izumo-class helicopter carrier JS Kaga, destroyer Samidare and cruiser Chokai.

Jharkhand: Army Chief Presents 'President's Colours' To Two Punjab Regiment Units

  •  Army Chief General Bipin Rawat presented the ceremonial 'President's Colours' to 29th and 30th battalions of the Punjab regiment.
  • The awards were given during Colour Presentation Parade held at the Punjab Regimental Centre, Ramgarh.
  • The Colours represent a source of pride for the military units. As time passed, Regiments were awarded battle honours, which they emblazoned on their Colours, Standards and Guidons.

Hurun Rich List 2019: Mukesh Ambani Richest Indian

  •  Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped the list of richest Indians for the eighth consecutive year, with a net worth of ₹3,80,700 crore, according to the latest IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List.
  • London-based SP Hinduja & family, with assets worth ₹1,86,500 crore, retained the second rank in the list, followed by Wipro founder Azim Premji at the third place with a wealth of ₹1,17,100 crore.
  • According to the latest IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List, the number of Indians having a net worth of more than ₹1,000 crore has grown to 953 this year from 831 in 2018; while, the number of billionaires in terms of US dollar has reduced to 138 from 141.

Rajasthan Girl Receives 'Changemaker' Award By Bill And Melinda Gates Foundation

  •  A teenager from Rajasthan Payal Jangid was conferred with a special Award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 17-year-old Payal received the Changemaker Award at the Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards for her campaign to end child labour and child marriage.
  • Payal belongs to Hinsla village in Rajasthan' Alwar district and served as the Head of the Bal Panchayat (Children's Council) in her village as part of the 'Bal Mitra Gram' (Child-Friendly Village) program under Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi's Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

Right Livelihood Award

  •  The Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize', celebrates its 40th anniversary.
  • The 2019 Award goes to Aminatou Haidar (Western Sahara), Guo Jianmei (China), Greta Thunberg (Sweden) and Davi Kopenawa / Hutukara Yanomami Association (Brazil). The Laureates were announced in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • The international jury has selected four Laureates who will each receive 1 million SEK (94,000 EUR).
  • The human rights defender Aminatou Haidar (Western Sahara) receives the Right Livelihood Award "for her steadfast nonviolent action, despite imprisonment and torture, in pursuit of justice and self-determination for the people of Western Sahara".

Flipkart Co-Founder Binny Bansal To Be Awarded 'Distinguished Alumni Award' By IIT Delhi

  •  IIT Delhi is all set to honour Billionaire entrepreneur Binny Bansal with the 'Distinguished Alumni Award'. Flipkart co-founder will be awarded the 'Distinguished Alumni Award'  for his contributions to development of the e-Commerce giant.
  • Bansal passed out from IIT Delhi in 2005 and will be the youngest alumni to receive the honour for his "outstanding contribution made in entrepreneurship".
  • In addition to Bansal, IIT Delhi will also be honouring two other alumni from the institute i.e. Srinivsan Keshav and Mohit Aron. Altogether, three alums from IIT Delhi will be recognized as distinguished alumni for the year 2019.

Govt Launches CPGRAMS Reforms In Postal Dept For Quick Grievance Redressal

  •  Union minister Jitendra Singh launched CPGRAMS reforms in the Department of Posts to reduce the time taken for grievance redressal and also improve the quality.
  • The Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions said the priority of the government is to provide transparent and citizen-centric governance to the people.
  • At the launch of the Centralised Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) reforms, Singh said it will lead to reduction in grievance disposal time and improved quality of redressal.

Tenants Can Avail Power Subsidy in Delhi

  •  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government announced a new scheme under which people residing as tenants in Delhi will be able to avail power subsidy.
  • Announcing the 'Mukhyamantri Kirayedar Bijli Meter Yojna', Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said till now, tenants were not able to avail the Delhi government's power subsidy scheme under which there is no charge for the electricity consumption of up to 200 units.

Australia Government Body Announces Rs 3.32 Crore Grant To Promote Stronger Ties With India

  •  In a bid to further promote stronger ties with India, an Australian government body has announced a grant of Rs 3.32 crore to 11 new projects that include workshops on woman social entrepreneurs and an innovative programme on school children.
  • The Australia India Council (AIC), a government body to build awareness and understanding between the people and institutions of the two sides, would allocate the grant of 689,000 Australian dollars (Rs 3,32,18,374) to the Western Sydney University (WSU) and the Australian National University (ANU), which will conduct the projects in collaboration with Indian organisations.

Dr Harsh Vardhan Launches 'TB Harega Desh Jeetega' Campaign

  •  Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare launched the new 'TB Harega Desh Jeetega Campaign' along with the National TB Prevalence Survey. Multi-stakeholder and community participation shall form the pivot of the countrywide campaign. 
  • "As part of our commitment to end-TB, we have established patient forums in over 95 per cent of all districts in the first 100 days, which clearly shows our strong commitment to ending TB in the shortest time. These district forums will bring the voices of the affected to the fore, and highlight on-ground challenges faced by patients and their families in accessing TB care services", he stated.

Pranab Mukherjee Releases Swamy's Book On Economy

  •  Former president Pranab Mukherjee released a book written by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy that tracks the country's economic development over the years and offers solutions for future growth.
  • Launching the book 'Reset: Regaining India's Economic Legacy', Mukherjee spoke of his long association with Swamy and said he speaks what he feels and believes, and he is not afraid to declare his views publicly.
  • The former president also acknowledged the MP's input on liberalising trade when the latter was the commerce minister in the short-lived Chandra Shekhar government in 1990-91.

Air India To Commence Mumbai-Dehradun-Varanasi Service

  •  National carrier Air India said that it will connect temple town Varanasi with Mumbai with a twice-weekly flight via Dehradun, starting September 28, 2019. A company will deploy an Airbus A319 on the new route.
  •  The flights scheduled to operate every Wednesday and Saturday will fulfill a long-standing demand of tourists and pilgrims to connect Dehradun and Varanasi with the country's financial hub.
  • The new flights are also a part of the Air India's plans to provide connectivity to tier 2 and tier 3 cities with metros.
