New Rule Likely To Hit Indians Eyeing US Green Cards
Under a new rule that goes into effect, the United States will start denying Green Cards and extensions of other temporary-stay visas to foreigners who have either used government assistance such as food stamps and housing rent or are likely to become someone who relies on "public benefits".
Experts estimate that this rule, called the "Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds", is the most significant of the Trump administration's immigration moves and could cut legal immigration by half -- also affecting Indians.
DTC Suspends Bus Service Between Delhi And Lahore
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has cancelled the bus between Delhi and Lahore as Pakistan informed it that the service was suspended in the wake of India revoking Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
The Delhi-Lahore bus service was first started in February 1999 but suspended after the 2001 Parliament attack.
It was restarted in July 2003. The ridership of the bus had drastically reduced post the Pulwama terrorist attack and the Balakot surgical strikes in February, 2019 which strained Indo-Pak relations.
Hong Kong Airport Grinds To a Halt
Hong Kong's airport halted flights , blaming demonstrators for the disruption. The airport authority said it was working with airlines to resume flights from 6am on August 13, 2019 but the developments raised the stakes sharply after a weekend of skirmishes during which both activists and police toughened their stances.
The protests began in opposition to a bill allowing extraditions to the mainland for trial in Communist-controlled courts, but have widened to highlight other grievances.

Reliance To Sell Stake To Saudi Aramco To Turn Debt-Free By '21
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is in the process of selling a 20% stake in the company's flagship chemicals and refining business to Saudi Aramco in a deal valued at $15 billion, as the Indian company seeks to cut its massive debt and secure an assured supply of crude oil to its refineries.
Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Asia's richest man, announced the proposed transaction at the company's 42nd annual general meeting.
The deal, which values the oil to-chemicals (O2C) business at $75 billion, is part of a plan to make RIL a zero-debt company in the next 18 months.

Kerala Signs MoU With ISRO VSSC To Promote Space Technology
The Kerala government and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to give a push to the state's endeavour in space technology.
The agreement was signed by State IT Secretary M Sivasankar and VSSC Director S Somanath. It was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched Israeli telecommunications satellite called Amos-17 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The satellite was launched successfully into the geosynchronous transfer orbit .
The launch was a makeup launch for Spacecom when a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded on the launch pad in 2016. Amos-17 has been designed to provide enhanced voice, video and data services to customers in Africa and parts of Europe, the Middle East, India and China.

Ravidas Temple Demolition In Tughlaqabad, Delhi
Members of the Dalit community held protests and blocked highways, hours after the Supreme Court orders over the demolition of Guru Ravidas temple in Tughlaqabad area in Delhi.
Amid the State-wide protest by Ravidas community over the alleged demolition of a temple in New Delhi on the purported direction of apex court, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to pacify the community leaders.
Mr. Singh made the appeal to the Prime Minister as community members holding demonstrations under the banner of Guru Ravidas Jayanti Samaroh Samiti called for a nationwide shutdown on August 13, 2019.

UP Govt Creates World Record By Planting Over Crore Saplings
Uttar Pradesh(UP) chief minister(CM) Yogi Adityanath launched the mega greenery plantation drive called "Vriksharopan Mahakumbh" sets a world record by planting over 22 crore saplings in a day.
The state entered the Guinness World Records' for distributing 76,823 saplings simultaneously in six hours across the state.
The 2nd record was made for planting 1.1 lakh saplings in Kasganj in presence of UP governor, Anandi Ben Patel.
The 3rd record was made in Prayagraj for distribution of a record of 66,000 saplings at the same place in a certain time frame.
The 4th record was made for planting 22 crore saplings in a day.
The state announced to plant 25 crore saplings in the Van Mahotsav in 2020. Adityanath unveiled the logo of 'Vriksharopan Mahakumbh' and handed saplings of 'Sahjan' (Drumstick) to 5 rural women.
The CM launched the drive by planting Harishankari, a combination of three sacred trees (peepul, pakar and banyan) at Jaitikheda area in Lucknow.

'Uber For Tractors': Government To Launch App To Aid Farmers
India's agriculture ministry developed a farm equipment rental app for Indian farmers let with hire tractors, rotavator. This app will be similar to Uber and this corresponding mobile app is expected to be launched by the end of August, 2019.
There are now more than 38,000 custom hiring centres (CHCs) across the country, which rent out 2.5 lakh pieces of farm equipment every year.
The CHC app is already open for registrations by the farmers, societies and entrepreneurs who run these centres. So far, almost 26,800 CHCs have registered to offer more than one lakh pieces of equipment for hire.
The Ministry's app will also create an invaluable database for policy-makers, who can track the use and cost of equipment.
The system would also help to track the usage of new technology that the government wants to promote, such as the Happy Seeder that aims to prevent stubble burning that causes air pollution, or solar dryers that can help farmers process and preserve their produce.
