Conservative politician Kyriakos Mitsotakis took office as Greece's new Prime Minister and named his cabinet, after storming to victory on a pledge to create jobs and lure investment to the economically stricken nation.
Mitsotakis's New Democracy party won an outright majority with 158 seats in the 300-seat legislature. His pledges for more investments, well-paid jobs and fewer taxes won over Greeks worn out by years of EU-prescribed austerity and the euro zone's highest unemployment.
Peace Talks Resume
Dozens of powerful Afghans resumed talks with the Taliban in Doha, where a possible ceasefire is on the table along with key issues such as women's rights.
Stakes are high for the talks which follow a week of U.S.-Taliban negotiations, with both sides eyeing a resolution to the bloody 18-year conflict.
Washington said it wants to seal a political deal with the Taliban ahead of the Afghan presidential polls due in September to allow foreign forces to begin to withdraw.
Around 70 delegates are attending the two-day gathering which has been organised by Germany and Qatar.
Kobach Announces Candidacy for the U.S. Senate
Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate next year.
Kobach filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission forming a campaign committee and made his formal announcement in Leavenworth.
He is seeking the Republican nomination for four-term GOP Sen. Pat Roberts' seat. Roberts is not seeking re-election in 2020.
Some Republicans do not want Kobach to run for the Senate because he lost the governor's race last year to Democrat Laura Kelly.
Kobach is an advocate for tough immigration policies. He was an early and vocal supporter of President Donald Trump in 2016 but had frequently alienated GOP moderates.
Kobach is joining a potentially crowded race. At least 16 prospective candidates have expressed an interest in running.
The Finance Bill, 2019 gave the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) new powers to act against entities that tamper or destroy electronic databases or fail to furnish information when sought by the capital markets regulator, SEBI, can now also impose penalties of up to Rs. 1 crore on brokers for certain violations.
These new powers assume significance as the regulator is in the midst of probing the leak of sensitive data through WhatsApp and also recently passed fresh orders on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) co-location matter, which were challenged at the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).
As per the Finance Bill, a new section — 15HAA — which was inserted in the SEBI Act that said if a person tampers with information to obstruct or influence an investigation, destroys regulatory data or tries to access data in an unauthorised manner then the entity could be penalised up to Rs. 10 crore or three times the unlawful gains, whichever is higher.
RBI Finalises Utkarsh 2022
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) board, which met in New Delhi, finalised a three- year roadmap to improve regulation and supervision, among other functions of the central bank.
This medium term strategy named 'Utkarsh 2022' was in line with the global central banks' plan to strengthen the regulatory and supervisory mechanism.
It is a three-year roadmap for medium term objective to be achieved for improving regulation, supervision of the central bank.
Worldwide, all central banks strengthen the regulatory and supervisory mechanism, everybody is formulating a long-term plan and a medium-term plan. So, the RBI also decided it would formulate a pragramme to outline what is to be achieved in the next three years.
Spectrum Auction
In a setback to the operators, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stuck to its earlier recommendation on the forthcoming spectrum auction, including on base price and valuation of spectrum to be put on sale.
Last month, the Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the highest decision making body in the DoT, asked the sectoral regulator to reconsider its recommendations to ensure competition and greater participation in auctions.
Microsoft Corp. signed Providence St. Joseph Health as a customer of its Azure and artificial intelligence tools to help the hospital chain track electronic health data such as surgery outcomes and cancer therapies.
Providence, which operates hospitals in seven U.S. states, would shift data and applications from its own data centers to Microsoft's cloud as part of the five-year agreement. The company's 119,000 doctors and caregivers would also get access to Microsoft's Office productivity software and its Teams chat service.
Microsoft is wooing health-care and retail companies to try to catch Amazon.com Inc., the largest provider of cloud computing services. This latest deal is also an attempt to use rented data storage, computing power and AI software to modernise hospitals. Tech companies have long promised that digitising health records would improve patient care, but progress has been halting. The bet now is that aggregating clinical data in the cloud will finally help deliver on this promise.

Head of Cricket at National Cricket Academy
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed former Indian captain Rahul Dravid as Head Cricket, National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru.
The BCCI said that Dravid would oversee all cricket-related activities at NCA and would be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA. The former Indian batsman, popularly known as The Wall, would also work with the National Men's and Women's Head Coaches and Cricket Coaches for India Developmental teams, including India A, India Under 19, India Under 23 teams, and identify key training and development objectives.

India rejected a United Nations' report on human rights abuse in Jammu and Kashmir and lodged a strong protest against it, calling it the continuation of the earlier false and motivated narrative on the situation in the border state.
In an "Update of the Situation of Human Rights in Indian-Administered Kashmir and Pakistan-Administered Kashmir from May 2018 to April 2019", the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights (OHCHR) highlighted serious human rights violations and patterns of impunity in Indian-Administered Kashmir.
It also underlined significant human rights concerns in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Reacting to the 43-page report, ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that its (the report's) assertions are in violation of India's sovereignty and territorial integrity and ignores the core issue of cross-border terrorism.
National Population Register
The National Population Register (NPR), which is a database of 1.3 billion Indians that would be ultimately used to issue citizenship cards, would be updated with individual Aadhaar, passport, driving license, mobile, and voter identity card numbers along with the Census 2021. This is being updated for a second time since 2015.
The Union home ministry asked the Register General of India to prepare for the exercise.
About 15 additional data points per person would be added to the 20-point database of the NPR. Disclosing Aadhaar, passport, driving license details would be voluntary and up to an individual. It is not mandatory to give this data.
BJP in No Hurry to Form Govt. in Karnataka
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not rush to stake a claim to form the government in Karnataka without being sure of its numbers. It has left it to the state leaders to respond to the emerging situation.
The Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance government in Karnataka was on the brink of collapse since 13 MLAs put in their papers last week. Two independent lawmakers, who were ministers in the HD Kumaraswamy government, also withdrew their support.
The effective strength of the 224-member assembly would be reduced to 211 if the resignations of the 13 lawmakers are accepted. A party or a coalition would need the support of 106 members to form the government in such a scenario. The BJP has 105. The BJP would wait for the resignations to be accepted.
The BJP would request the governor to ask Kumaraswamy to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
The country's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC), Vikrant, is in advanced stage of construction and would be delivered to the Navy in 2021 for advanced trials.
Starting of gas turbines will take place in the third quarter of this year. Basic trials will be conducted in February-March next and contractor sea trials after that. It will be delivered to the Navy in 2021. Flight trials would start after the delivery.
Two more US-built Chinook Choppers Reach India
US defence firm Boeing announced the arrival of two more CH-47F (I) Chinooks for the Indian Air Force at the Mundra Port in Gujarat, five months after helicopter deliveries began. Boeing delivered the first four of the 15 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters on order in February.
The arrival of the two Chinooks is in line with the planned delivery schedule, as well as Boeing's commitment to ensuring the modernisation and mission readiness of the IAF.
The Chinooks, ordered in September 2015, would be assembled and flown to their home base in Chandigarh where the first four choppers were formally inducted in the IAF in March.
Professional social media network LinkedIn announced the appointment of Ashutosh Gupta as Country Manager for India, effective September 2019.
He would replace Mahesh Narayanan, who was Country Manager for India from January 2019 to June 2019.
With over two decades of experience in the Internet and IT & Software Services, Gupta worked in industries across firms such as Google, Cognizant and Infosys.
He joined LinkedIn in 2013 to lead LinkedIn's Marketing Solutions (LMS) in India. In 2016, he moved to Singapore to build LMS's Online Sales Organisation (OSO) for Asia Pacific and China.
The Congress opposed the introduction of the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. It sought to remove the Congress president as a permanent member of a trust that runs the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial.
The Bill was moved by Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel and states that it sought to delete the mention of President of the Indian National Congress as a trustee. A similar one was brought by the previous government but it could not get parliamentary nod and lapsed.
RS Passes Aadhaar Bill
The Rajya Sabha passed the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019, with Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asserting that the incumbent government will soon bring a comprehensive law on the data protection.
The Bill sought to amend the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
It allowed voluntary use of Aadhaar as proof of identity for opening a bank account and procuring a mobile phone
