Fresh No-confidence Motion against New PM

Sri Lanka's President urged the speaker of parliament and some political parties to seek a fresh no-confidence motion against a Prime Minister he appointed last month, creating political instability in the south Asian country.
Earlier the parliament passed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government with the backing of 122 of the 225 lawmakers in a voice vote, followed by a signed document.
President Maithripala Sirisena has rejected the view of the parliament that Rajapaksa's appointment was unconstitutional and has called for a new motion.

North Korea tests new weapon

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed the successful test of an unspecified "newly developed ultra-modern tactical weapon", in an apparent bid to apply pressure on the US and South Korea.
It didn't appear to be a test of a nuclear device or a long-range missile with the potential to target the US. A string of such tests last year had many fearing war before the North turned to engagement and diplomacy. Still, any mention of weapons testing could influence the direction of stalled diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Washington and aimed at ridding the North of its nuclear weapons.
The North hasn't publicly tested any weapons since November 2017, but in recent days Pyongyang reportedly expressed anger at US-led international sanctions and ongoing small-scale military drills between South Korea and the United States.

According to the quality of service rule, not more than 2 percent of total calls in a telecom circle on a network should automatically get disconnected.

Winter Games crisis for IOC as cities flee

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is facing its most serious bidding crisis in decades as cities drop out of the 2026 Winter Games bid race en masse, leaving a field of just two candidates.
The Canadian city of Calgary became the latest to pull the plug on its 2026 Games candidacy after more than 56 percent of citizens voted against the project in a plebiscite, unconvinced the benefits of the Olympics were worth the multi-billion dollar investment.
Of an original list of seven cities, only Stockholm and an Italian bid remain and both of those are struggling for local and governmental support.
Calgary, which hosted the 1988 Winter Games, became the fourth city to drop out of bidding in mid-race, after Austria's Graz, Japan's Sapporo and Switzerland's Sion. Turkey's Erzurum was cut by the IOC last month.
The two remaining bidders are Stockholm, which pulled out of the 2022 bidding process after baulking at the Games' cost, and the fragile combined Italian candidacy of Milan and Cortina D'Ampezzo.
The Italian bid, which at one point included Torino before the city pulled out after a disagreement with the other two, is far from guaranteed the necessary political support amid the country's financial woes.
Stockholm is facing opposition from a new city government which said last month it will be against any bid that includes taxpayer funding.

PM Modi calls for 'great wall of trust'

Ahead of his meeting with President Xi Jinping on the margins of the G20 Summit in Argentina this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the need for contacts between India and China to build a "Great Wall of Trust and Cooperation". Modi's remarks came in the form of a message read out to participants of the China-India Youth Dialogue 2018 at the Chinese embassy. Chinese envoy Lou Zhaohui, in his speech at the event, spoke of the need to synergise India's 'Act East' policy with China's 'One Belt, One Road' (OBOR) initiative, which New Delhi doesn't endorse.
Modi and Xi are set to meet for the fourth time this year during the G20 Summit. They have met twice since Wuhan - on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Qingdao in June, and the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, in July.
