More Projects Planned Under CPEC

As per Chinese spokesman Lu Kang, more projects will be planned under the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, amid concerns over piling up of debt.

Russian, Pakistani Military Drills

Russian-Pakistani military drills "Friendship 2018" will be held in the mountains of Pakistan later this month.
The "Friendship" drills between Russia and Pakistan have been held since 2016.
Pakistan has shown eagerness to build military-to-military level ties with Russia.

Shifting of Embassy to Jerusalem

Australian PM Scott Morrison said that he is open to the idea of shifting Australia's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognising the holy city as Israel's capital.
Morrison also announced that Australia would vote against a UN resolution this week to recognise the Palestinian Authority as the chair of the Group of 77 developing countries.

Shifting to 100% Wind Generation

Scottish Power has switched to 100% wind power, by selling off its last remaining gas power stations to Drax for more than £700m.
Iberdrola, Scottish Power's Spanish parent company, said the move was part of its strategy to tackle climate change and would free it up to invest in renewables and power grids in the UK.

The graded response action plan (GRAP), to combat 'poor', 'very poor' and 'severe' levels of air pollution in Delhi-NCR, came into effect, with the shutting of the Badarpur Thermal Power Station and the civic bodies issuing directions for water sprinkling and mechanised sweeping of select road stretches.

Amazon in Talks to Buy Stake in Future Retail

According to reports, online retailer Amazon is in advance talks to acquire stake in Kishore Biyani-led Future Retail and the deal could be worth over Rs. 2,000 crore.
Amazon, which is looking to expand its presence in India, already has stake in Shoppers Stop and More.

India the Fastest Growing Low-cost Carrier

According to aviation consulting and research firm Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), India has emerged as the fastest growing low-cost carrier (LCC) market in the world by recording the largest increase (an additional 15.6 million) in departure seats in the first nine months of this year.
Indian has also reinforced its position as the second largest LCC country market.

Lab-grown Oesophagus

Scientists in London have grown a bio-engineered oesophagus which was successfully implanted into mice.
The team hopes the research could eventually lead to clinical trials of lab-grown food pipes for children born with part of their oesophagus damaged or missing.
The oesophagus is a complex, multi-layered organ, made up of multiple tissue types, which acts as a pipe carrying food and liquid from the mouth to the stomach.

IIT Bombay Tops QS Rankings

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has emerged on top in the first-ever standalone prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings for Indian institutions of higher education.
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) claims first place, earning the highest scores in India for both the academic and employer reputation indicators.
IIT Bombay managed to pip Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, for the top slot.

206 Blocks Declared Drought-affected

The Bihar government has declared 206 blocks in 23 districts of the state as drought-affected following reports of deficient rainfall and drying of crops.
A decision to this effect was taken after submission of reports by agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery, energy and water resource departments.

Korean War Memorial in Delhi

A Korean War memorial will be built in New Delhi to commemorate India's role in the war which ended in an armistice in 1953.
The proposal was initiated by the Indian Korean War Veterans Association.
There were 21 countries which participated in the Korean War from 1950-53 of which 16 countries had sent combat troops. India sent medical teams and a custodian force to deal with the Prisoners of War (PoW).
