New Initiative for Resolving Indus Water Treaty Dispute
As per reports, the World Bank would soon approach India and Pakistan with a fresh initiative to resolve the Indus Water Treaty dispute, its President Jim Yong Kim has told Islamabad's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Under the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty 1960, waters of the eastern rivers - Sutlej, Beas and Ravi - had been allocated to India and the western rivers - the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab - to Pakistan, except for certain non-consumptive uses for India.

India Eases Oil Import Rules
India has for the first time allowed state refiners to buy 35 per cent of their oil imports in tankers arranged by the seller, enabling them to swiftly tap cheaper cargoes.
The measure is part of a series of attempts by the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer to cut its surging oil import bill in the face of rising oil prices and a weaker Indian rupee.
Option on Capping Exports to U.S. is Still Open
According to Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan, India is not foreclosing the option of capping exports to the U.S.
The effect of any such option would, however, be minimal on the domestic industry.
Capping exports is among the demands raised by the U.S. in exchange for it waiving import duties on steel and aluminium from India.
Mr. Wadhawan said that India had the right under the World Trade Organisation rules to implement import tariff increases within a band.
In a bid to step up passenger safety, Indian cab-hailing major Ola has rolled out a real-time ride monitoring system.
'Ola Guardian,' the real-time monitoring system to strengthen ride safety of customers, has been launched as a pilot in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune.

Committee to Look into Jail Reforms Constituted
The Supreme Court constituted a three-member committee, headed by its former judge Justice Amitava Roy, to look into jail reforms across the country and suggest measures to deal with them.
The panel will look into various matters including over-crowding in prisons and the issues concerning women prisoners.
Waiting Period for Bail Reduced
The Allahabad High Court has amended a three decade old rule which provided that bail could not be granted on an application unless 10 days had expired as prior notice of application is given to government advocate.
The High Court issued a notification earlier this month amending the rule, thereby allowing the grant of bail in two days after notice of bail application is given to the government advocate.
After the notification, no arrested person applying for bail in UP will have to compulsorily suffer 10 days of imprisonment.
