The issue of how funds are made available to developing nations has emerged as a key sticking point at the talks.

Maldives Hits Out at U.S.

The Maldives has hit out at the United States after it warned of possible sanctions against key officials of the island nation if the upcoming election is not free and fair.
The U.S. remarks came amid accusations from the Maldivian Opposition that the election will not be free and fair. Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed fears that the government would rig the election.

China Engages in Australia's Largest Maritime Drill

China is participating for the first time in Australia's largest maritime exercise as personnel from 27 countries engage in joint training off the strategic northern port of Darwin.
The participating countries in Exercise Kakadu are: China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Cook Islands, Fiji, France, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Tonga, United Arab Emirates, US, Australia, and Vietnam.

Axis Bank has announced the appointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as its new managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) from January 1, 2019.
Chaudhry will take over from outgoing MD & CEO Shikha Sharma, after she demits office on December 31, 2018.
Presently, Chaudhry heads HDFC's life insurance arm, HDFC Life, as its MD and CEO.

Department of Posts has decided to set up insurance firm as a special business unit in two years.

Dawn Mission Nears End

After 11 years of gathering breathtaking imagery, and performing unprecedented feats of spacecraft engineering, Dawn - NASA's space probe for the asteroid belt - is drawing to a close due to lack of a key fuel.
Launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in September 2007, Dawn was majorly tasked to study two of the three known protoplanets of the asteroid belt Vesta and Ceres, which when combined, make up 45% of the mass of the main asteroid belt. The spacecraft is likely to run out of a key fuel known as hydrazine.

Aero India Expo

The 12th edition of Aero India will be held in Bengaluru from February 20-24, 2019, the Defence Ministry announced, ending confusion over a possible change of date and venue.
This five-day event will combine a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries with public air shows.The show will also see participation by think-tanks from across the world.
Earlier there was much deliberation within the Ministry on shifting the biennial air show to Bakshi Ka Talab near Lucknow and to hold it in November.
