Russia Developing Fifth-generation MiG-41

Russia operates a fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) in the form of Sukhoi Su-57, but is already eyeing another state-of-art jet for its armed forces. Russia's MiG Aircraft Corporation claims it is developing MiG-41, which will be a fifth-generation fighter-interceptor.

Malaysian PM Backs China-backed Projects

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said that the Chinese-funded $20 billion East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project and a natural gas pipeline project in Sabah will be cancelled for now.
Mahathir suspended unpopular Chinese projects in Malaysia after he returned to power in a stunning election victory in May that ended the decade-long rule of former premier Najib Razak.

 Capital Float Acquires Walnut

Digital lender Capital Float acquired Pune-based Walnut (Thumbworks Technologies Pvt. Ltd.), makers of a personal financial management app, in a deal amounting to $30 million.
Walnut is a personal finance management mobile application that helps users to automatically track expenses, bank and credit card balances, bill payments, and split expenses within a group.
The acquisition follows shortly after Capital Float announced its foray into the consumer finance vertical.

Euram Bank Fined

Markets regulator SEBI imposed Rs. 2 lakh fine on European American Bank AG (Euram Bank) as its sub-account failed to satisfy the broad based fund criteria.

No GST on Petrol and Diesel

Petrol and diesel will not come under the purview of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the immediate future as neither the Central government nor any of the states is in favour on fears of heavy revenue loss. When the one-nation-one-tax regime of GST was implemented in July last year, five petro-products - petrol, diesel, crude oil, natural gas, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) were kept out of its purview for the time being.

Asian Games 2018

India's women hockey team mauled lowly Kazakhstan 21-0 to notch up its second consecutive win in the Asian Games.
The Indians missed the all-time Asian Games record of 22-0 by a goal. The Indian women's team had beaten Hong Kong 22-0 in the 1982 Asiad.
Saurabh Chaudhary became only the fifth Indian shooter to claim a gold in the Asian Games history, beating a field of multiple world and Olympic champions in the 10m air pistol finals in Palembang, Indonesia.
Indian shooter Sanjeev Rajput won the Silver medal for India in the 50m Rifle 3 event.
Abhishek Verma has won the second bronze medal for India.
Deepak Kumar has bagged silver medal in 10m Air Rifle event.
Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games defeating Japan's Yuki Irie in the 50kg weight category.

Satya Pal Malik Governor of Jammu and Kashmir

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Satya Pal Malik as Jammu and Kashmir's new governor. Malik, who has been the Bihar governor since September 2017, will replace N. N. Vohra, and will have direct administrative control since the state has been under the Governor's Rule since the Bharatiya Janata Party withdrew support to the People's Democratic Party-led government in June.
The move was part of a larger exercise under which three new appointments were made and some governors were reshuffled. Seven states will now have new governors.

Marriage Portal for HIV+ People

People with HIV infection can now look for a marriage partner on a web portal specially designed for them.
The portal, matrimonial.gnspplus.org, was launched at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) to address the confidentiality concerns of people infected by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
The online platform has been created by Gujarat State Network of Positive People (GSNP+), a non-profit organisation, with the technical support of the IIMA's Centre for Management of Health Services.

Secretariat to Tackle Drug Menace

Five northern states Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Union territories of Delhi and Chandigarh have decided to set up centralised secretariat at Panchkula (Haryana) to tackle the drug menace. It was decided at in inter-State regional conference of Chief Ministers organised in Chandigarh by Haryana government on issue of "Drug menace, challenges and strategies.
