Time for Resolution of Stressed Power Projects

According to a government report, an additional 180 days could be provided for resolution of 34 stressed power projects with a view to avoiding potential value erosion of operating plants.
As per the current RBI norms, banks need to restructure stressed assets within 180 days or six months. If the recommendations of the report, which was in compliance with the Allahabad High Court order are accepted, banks would get about a year for restructuring power sector loans of about Rs. 1.74 lakh crore.

Campus Management Eyes Pacts with States

U.S. based Campus Management Corporation (CMC), a provider of educational technology solutions is planning to work with State governments as part of skilling initiatives in the country.
Its pact with the government of Maharashtra is the latest and follows its work with the Centre to help fulfil the government's vision of Make in India, Skill India and Digital India.
In India, CMC works with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and helps users of its platform meet their skilling and up-skilling goals that are in line with the vision of the country.

Post Payments Bank

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will later this month launch the long-awaited India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) that will have at least one branch in every district and focus on financial services in rural areas.
IPPB will leverage reach of 1.55 lakh post office branches to provide banking and financial service to people in rural area.

BWF World Championships

Indian shuttler P. V. Sindhu lost to Spain's Caroline Marin in the BWF World Championships' women's singles clash and settled for a silver.
This is the second time that Sindhu settled for a silver as she lost to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara at Glasgow last year.
Sindhu also became the only Indian to have four podium finishes at BWF World Championships.
Marin became the first woman shuttler to win the world championships thrice. She had won the title in 2014 and the 2015 Jakarta edition.

New Research Projects under IMPRINT-2

With an aim for better research in the high education institutions, the government has approved 122 new research projects at a cost of Rs. 112 crore under IMPRINT-2. The research will cover domains like Energy, Security, Healthcare, Advanced Materials, ICT and Security/Defence. "Out of 2145 proposals, 122 best proposals were selected for funding under IMPRINT-II, advancing cutting edge level technology.
IMPRINT is a Pan-IIT + IISc joint initiative supported by the MHRD to address the major science and engineering challenges that India must address and champion to enable, empower and embolden the nation for inclusive growth and self-reliance. IMPRINT is also open for private institutions. The initiative aims at providing the overarching vision for research into areas that are predominantly socially relevant.

Vishwanath Replaces Kumaraswamy

JD(S) supremo H. D. Deve Gowda relieved his son and Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy from the post of party's state unit chief, replacing him with Adaguru H. Vishwanath, who belongs to the backward Kuruba community.
