Amnesty Scheme for Overstayers

The UAE launched a landmark three-month visa amnesty programme that will benefit hundreds of illegal foreign workers, including Indians, who are overstaying their permits. The programme allows the workers to leave the country without paying penalty and also gives them six months to find a job.
This is the third such amnesty announced by the UAE government in just over a decade.

Iran Rejects Offer for Talks

Iran waved away U.S. President Donald Trump's claims that talks with the country's leaders were imminent, saying "threats, sanctions and PR stunts won't work".

Repo Rate Hiked

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to increase the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 basis points to 6.5 per cent.
Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF stands has been adjusted to 6.25 per cent, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate to 6.75 per cent.

Indian Firms on Fortune 500 List

Seven Indian companies have made it to the latest Fortune 500 list of the world's biggest corporations in terms of revenue, with state-owned IOC continuing to be the highest-ranked Indian firm and Reliance Industries (RIL) jumping 53 places.
The list is topped by retail giant Walmart.

Hyundai Motor India Director Resigns

Rakesh Srivastava Director for Marketing and Sales of Hyundai Motor India resigned to pursue other interests outside the organisation.
Srivastava joined the company as Vice President and served for six years.
In April last year, he was promoted as Director for Marketing and sales division.

Akshay Venkatesh Wins Fields Medal

Akshay Venkatesh, a renowned Indian-Australian mathematician, is one of four winners of mathematics' prestigious Fields Medal, known as the Nobel Prize for math.
The Fields medals are awarded every four years to the most promising mathematicians under the age of 40.
The other three winners are: Caucher Birkar, a professor of Iranian Kurdish origin; Germany's Peter Scholze and Alessio Figalli, an Italian mathematician.
The prize was inaugurated in 1932 at the request of Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields.

Bill to Restore Provisions of SC/ST Act

The Union cabinet approved a bill to restore key provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act that were struck down by the Supreme Court in March.
Union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan, who is also a prominent Dalit leader and President of the Lok Janshakti Party, announced the decision and said that the bill would be tabled in Parliament during the ongoing monsoon session.

91st Anniversary of PLA Foundation

Armies of India and China held a meeting at Nathu La in Sikkim with an aim to strengthen peace and tranquility along the Sino-India border.
The Special Border Personnel meeting took place as part of celebrations to commemorate the 91st anniversary of the foundation of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).
The Indian delegation attended the celebration following an invitation by the PLA.

Usage of Artificial Intelligence

India is considering the military usage of Artificial Intelligence for national security and military strategic purposes and the government is studying a report recommending the dual use of technology in aviation, naval, land systems, cyber, nuclear and biological warfare.
