First Pakistan Woman Chief Justice

Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar will be the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court, paving way for her to become the first woman Chief Justice of any court in conservative Muslim-majority nation.

Justice Tahira will replace Chief Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai, scheduled to retire on August 31. She will work as the CJ till October 5 next year.

North Korea Dismantling Nuclear Rocket Launch Site

According to expert analysis of recent satellite images, North Korea has started dismantling some facilities at its main satellite launch station, seen as the testing ground for its intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Tatas to Set Up Aerospace Centre

Tata Technologies Ltd. has signed an MoU with the Vidarbha Defence Industries Association to set up a state-of-the-art aerospace and defence centre in Nagpur. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the 'Made in Vidarbha - Aerospace and Defence Summit' held last week.

According to the company, this centre will help establish Maharashtra as the preferred investment destination for aerospace and defence manufacturing.

Flipkart to Shut eBay in India

E-commerce major Flipkart will shut down eBay.in next month and launch a new platform for refurbished goods as it attempts to tap into a large market segment that is predominantly unorganised.

As part of this launch, Flipkart will stop all customer transactions on eBay.in on 14th August, 2018 and transitioning to the new platform.

Vikram Pawah to Lead Australia Business

German luxury automaker BMW appointed its India head Vikram Pawah as CEO of BMW Group Australia and New Zealand with effect from August 1.

Pawah has additionally been promoted as the Chairman of BMW Group India and will remain committed to the Indian market in his expanded role.

Man Booker Longlist 2018

From a staggering 171 submissions, the highest number of titles put forward in the Man Booker Prizes' 50 year history, 13 novels, which capture facets of a world on the brink, have been longlisted for the 2018 edition of the much-coveted 50,000 pound literary award.

Prevention of Corruption Amendment Bill 2018

The Lok Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Bill 2018 which, for the first time, penalises bribe givers apart from bribe takers.

The Bill, which also covers retired bureaucrats with the need for "prior sanction to prosecute" provision, was passed by Rajya Sabha last week. It will become law once President Ram Nath Kovind gives his assent.

Sites to be Developed as 'Iconic Tourist Sites'

Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for development under Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project, pursuant to Budget Announcements of 2018-19, under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Following are the 17 sites: Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Ajanta, Ellora, Humayun's Tomb, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Colva Beach, Amer Fort, Somnath, Dholavira, Khajuraho, Hampi, Mahabalipuram, Kaziranga, Kumarakom and Mahabodhi.
