Russia and France Aid Syria

  • Humanitarian aid sent by France and Russia arrived in Syria as the two countries' leaders discussed a joint mission to distribute much-needed relief supplies in a ravaged former rebel enclave.
  • The aid, including medicine, medical equipment, clothes and tents, will be given to residents of Eastern Ghouta on the fringes of the capital Damascus, which was retaken by government forces in April after a five-year siege.

Hamas Announces Ceasefire

  • A ceasefire announced by Hamas largely held after a wave of deadly air strikes across the Gaza Strip sparked by the death of an Israeli soldier shot near the border.
  • The soldier's death was the first linked to Gaza violence since a 2014 war and raised fears that Israel's response could spiral into full-out war.
  • But Hamas's decision to accept a ceasefire and not further retaliate reduced those fears for now.

Ebix Buys Indus Software

  • Ebix, an international supplier of on-demand software and e-commerce services, announced that it had acquired Pune-based Indus Software Technologies for about $29 million, including $5 million of contingent earn-out.
  • Indus will be integrated into Ebix's financial exchange EbixCash offering in India and abroad.

Allahabad Bank to Close Branch in Hong Kong

  • State-owned Allahabad Bank proposes to close its only foreign branch in Hong Kong. In compliance with the government's directives under the PSBs' reform agenda.

BPCL Transfers Gas Business

  • The board of directors has approved the proposal to transfer BPCL's Gas Division on a going concern basis to Bharat Gas Resources Limited being a wholly owned subsidiary of BPCL by way of slump sale.
