European Call for Iran Sanctions Waiver

As per media reports, Washington will not budge on its decision to impose fresh sanctions on corporations operating in Iran, despite a European request for exemption.
International companies active in Iran face the threat of US sanctions within weeks after Washington rebuffed a high-level European plea to exempt crucial industries to help keep a landmark nuclear deal with Tehran alive.
As per analysts, European firms that have rushed to invest in Iran after the lifting of sanctions over the past three years have the most to lose from the renewed sanctions.

U.S. Tariff Threat Challenged

China has filed a World Trade Organization (WTO) challenge to U.S. President Donald Trump's latest tariff threat, stepping up its diplomatic efforts to counter U.S. pressure in a spiralling technology dispute.
The Trump administration has criticised the WTO as unable to deal with the problems posed by China. But it might help Beijing rally support from governments that criticised Mr. Trump for going outside the WTO to impose tariffs on Chinese and other imports.

Minda Industries and Kasei Group Form JV

Auto component maker Minda Industries has formed a joint venture (JV) with Japan's Kasei Group to manufacture moulds for alloy wheels. The proposed name for the JV company is Kasei Minda Mould Pvt Ltd. in which Minda would hold 49.9% equity. The JV firm would be set up in Bawal, Haryana.

LIC's Stake in IDBI Bank

The LIC board gave approval to the insurance behemoth for acquiring of up to 51 per cent stake in IDBI Bank.
Now the state-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) will approach markets regulator SEBI.
LIC stake buy will help the debt-ridden state-owned bank get a capital support of Rs 10,000- 13,000 crore.

Apple has lost a trio of pivotal executives in India as it struggles to boost iPhone sales in the world's fastest-growing major smartphone market.
Among the executives who've departed are Rahul Puri who was national sales, distribution head and head of operator business, Jayant Gupta who used to head iPhone sales, modern trade and the franchisee-owned Apple Premium Retail stores in the country and Manish Sharma who was national sales head, telecom.

New Method to View Proteins in Human Cells

A team of scientists have produced a new method of microscopy to help view proteins under human cells. These scientists have procured a tagging device named FerriTag, which uses a protein shell used to contain iron cells in human bodies.

Successful Test-fire of BrahMos Missile

Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur.
This test launch comes close on the heels of two trials of BrahMos missile conducted on May 21 and 22 this year in which the major sub-systems manufactured indigenously under the 'Make in India' campaign were tested.
BrahMos is a joint venture between DRDO and the NPOM of Russia.

Plans to Amend NIA Act

The government plans to amend National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in an attempt to strengthen the agency.
The draft Bills for the amendments to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act and counter-terror law UAPA are being prepared and may be introduced in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
According to the proposal, the NIA would be allowed to probe cases of terror attacks on Indians in abroad and seize and attach property representing proceeds of terrorism. It will also make the probe agency the nodal authority for probing cases of human trafficking.

UP to Restore Anticipatory Bail

Forty-three years after it did away with the provisions of anticipatory bail, Uttar Pradesh will soon restore the law, providing succour to residents who often have to rush to the Supreme Court for relief in case they face arrest in criminal cases.
