Trump Vows U.K. Trade Deal after Brexit

Theresa May and Donald Trump entered a news conference holding hands and went out of their way to praise one another's leadership, a day after the U.S. president assailed her Brexit strategy and said one of her political opponents would make a good Prime Minister.
The two leaders said that they would complete a trade deal between their countries as soon as the U.K. leaves the European Union.

Iran Has No Intention to Leave Syria

According to a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, Iran has no intention of leaving Syria regardless of U.S. and Israeli pressure, reaffirming a tough stance on the issue expected to top the agenda of the upcoming U.S.-Russian summit.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had told Mr. Putin that Israel wants Iran to leave Syria.

Fortis Takeover Ends

The second largest hospital chain in the country, Fortis Healthcare, will be acquired by Malaysian group IHH Healthcare with an infusion of Rs. 4,000 crore, bringing to an end the uncertainty for the stakeholders.
The cash-strapped Fortis Healthcare, with its registered office at Mohali, was founded by Malvinder and Shivinder Singh and was the main business of the Singh family after they sold their controlling stake in Ranbaxy Laboratories.

Berger Scouts for Russian Acquisition

Berger Paints India Ltd. is scouting for an acquisition in Russia, where its business has gained traction on the back of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The company is keen to leverage the recognition it had gained through the winning of tenders to paint three stadiums and two airports.
The Rs. 7.5-crore project was executed by Berger Paints Russia, a wholly owned subsidiary.

HSBC India Gets New Head

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd. has appointed Amitabh Malhotra as the head of investment banking for HSBC India. Mr. Malhotra will lead the Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets business.
Malhotra has worked at Rothschild India, KPMG and J.P. Morgan.

59th International Mathematical Olympiad

India won three silver and two bronze medals at the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Cluj Napoca, Romania from July 4-14, 2018.
The Indian students who won silver medals were Pranjal Srivastava, Pulkit Sinha and Anant Mudgal while Spandan Ghosh and Sutanay Bhattacharya won bronze.

Missile Deal with Russia to Go Ahead

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the deal for S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems with Russia was "at an almost conclusive stage" and the US sanctions legislation won't affect it, brushing aside Washington's concerns about the Rs 39,000-crore purchase.

India, US 2+2 Dialogue

According to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, India will hold a top-level strategic dialogue with the United States in the first week of September, after the United States last month postponed the meeting for a second time this year.
The agenda will be to develop and strengthen strategic defence cooperation.

Pact on Facilitating Ayushman Bharat Scheme

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has signed an agreement with the Centre on facilitating implementation of Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM), even though differences over the package rates remain.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley in this year's budget announced annual insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh for hospitalisation for poor and vulnerable families, benefiting 10.74 crore families. As part of the implementation process, government will be empanelling hospitals, both public and private where people will be provided cashless treatment.
